I have come to understand that better Dynamo coverage in the Chronicle is being discussed right now and it is based on interest in the Houston sports community. Those of you with a knowledge of how reader interest of web-based content works will understand that it is gauged based on how many people click these links and where they are clicked from. We all know the Dynamo are a big deal and now it's time for us to let the Chronicle know the Dynamo are a big deal to us. I would encourage all of you to click all four of these links in particular and also email them around to your family and friends who are interested in making the Dynamo rate highly as far as the Chronicle is concerned. This is not a light request in passing. This is important and it needs to happen now. Thanks for helping our team.

Someone also mentioned this to me - that there were Chronicle execs at the game last night and that they told Canetti the key to raising the coverage of the Dynamo to a Rockets or Astros level is more pageviews on Dynamo articles on chron.com

Also, Like & Share Dynamo-related articles on Facebook so news reaches your personal friends.

There's also a 'Recommend' Facebook button at the bottom of every Chronicle article.

Driving more page views and raising awareness to your friends and family is as simple as clicking a couple buttons.

is there any way i can increase page view with out Ortiz getting the credit? his arrogance is going to kick in and tell himself that it is his incredible diligence, Edward Murrow professionalism and Pulitzer type work that garnered such views.

there should be a button that says "im here in spite of the MNT fan boy"

    note to self:
suck it up and go get this team some pub!

I always wondered what happens with that stuff-I always give my old NY zip code when I shop at Academy. Some stat guy is going nuts when that happens.

The key to raising awareness is having journalists that understand they are covering the most dominate sport on the planet in a city that is part of the most dominate nation on the planet.
Our league is now the 7th most attended league on Earth and Houston has a tremendous presence in our league and good history behind the sport in our city.
Hakeem Olajuwon or Yao Ming was but one man on a team of 12 that took the Houston name to a global audience, our Houston Dynamo is a team of 25 that take our Houston name to a global audience in the common language of association football. Much, much more powerful in application and ease of understanding. Our local sports writers should get this concept. They are sports writers for fvcks sake and we are not asking the Chron's lifestyle writers to get this part of their job as local journos.
It's like, oh look, we have a good association football team in our city. The sport that is the most dominate code of football on the face of the Earth. Perhaps us that get paid to cover sports should give them some love while they are in season.

If they want to increase page views, I'm sure there is some USWNT-El Tri fan club that'll break their index fingers clicking to keep Ortiz employed that they can find.

Ortiz has become tired with his old passive-agressive schtick on the Mexico/US to get clicks. He's done a good job covering the playoff run but we'll regress back to his personal coverage preference of beer league softball in a few weeks, only interuppted by fluff pieces on the USWNT so his kids can get autographs.

I'm really sorry that you guys feel this way about Jesus. He is a decent and honorable guy, and totally supportive of the Dynamo. Furthermore, I know for a fact that Dom likes him and that is good enough for me.

He's a great individual and I admire him for loving the Dynamo as much as he does. This reminds of the hatred people had (have?) for the PA Announcer. It's hate that is really misdirected.

i don't hate the man. don't even know him. and i'm sure he loves puppies and gives to the orphans but he is terrible at his job. his heart isn't in it, and you can tell. he is a throw away astros reporter and it shows in his work. his passion only bubbles up when he is writing about the MNT.

I just don't understand where all that comes from. He has written excellent stories about the Dynamo, he has done it for as long as he has had the assignment. He rarely misses a training session, interviews the players and Dom at every one, and gets as many stories into the paper as he is allowed. He is not in charge of the length of his stories, the quantity or the placement. And until recently if he went to away games he would have to pay for the trip himself. It looks like the recent playoff games were different maybe. He's a good writer and most Dynamo fans other than those caught up in BS bs appreciate him. If you don't like he's tweets just don't follow him.

I like his blog. Ortiz is a good writer and does a great job, but his support for his fathers team, will cause him to be hated by some. I think he is fairly representative of a good portion of the soccer crowd in the USA. He loves his roots but also is raising a new generation of soccer people that support the USA.

Well my friend, he has a funny way of showing it if he likes the Dynamo. The way he writes is appears his first love is himself over all else.

I'd like to meet him. I don't like criticising someone as much I do him without meeting them and telling them straight to their face.

For me he crossed the line when he wrote that crap saying it would be easy to get Ching back. That nonsense fed public pressure for the Dynamo to do a bad deal. A good deal was never going to be easy. But the writing made Ortiz out to be the all smart insider. So he was burnishing his own image and ego at the cost of hurting the team and misleading his readers.

Just recently he wrote that horrific article telling Dom not to play the regulars against Olympia directly implying that CCL isn't worth it. Which directly tells the casual fan that going to the game isn't worth it. Yet he looks like the all smart insider (Look!, Dom Kinnear followed Ortiz's advice! How smart is Ortiz!) when everyone with half an interest in the Dynamo knew Kinnear was already going to do that. Now Ortiz's writing isn't the reason for poor CCL attendance but it can't help. That story hurts the team and soccer but it makes him look good.

There may or may not be other examples but I avoid reading him 90% of the time.

With power comes responsibility. He does not use his power responsibly.

Personally, I'd say you Dynamo fans don't have to worry about clicking a link or liking the Dynamo. You are falling for their marketing ploy. "Get more people to read our newspaper, spread the word, and we may consider covering that weird sport that you handful of foreigners like".

My suggestion is: Stop reading the Chronicle if you don't like their coverage. Support other venues such as the radio shows, blogs, youtube, and let the Chronicle do their stuff the way they want it. Send them a stronger message letting them know they are losing suscribers. I honestly canceled my suscription because they had almost NO futbol coverage. I spent my time reading the sports pages on the Internet, and not on my local paper. Then, why did I bother suscribing???????????

Rather than contacting the chronicle, write to TV news programs asking them to cover more of the Dynamo. Three people have told me that they have complained to the TV news shows, and that they have received direct responses apologizing and asking them to watch the next show that evening, and they made a change right away.

I don't care for Ortiz support for El Tri, but that's just me. Anybody can support whatever horrible team they want, and I can read whatever other paper I want. Right?

In my eyes, any credibility that Ortiz had as a journalist went out the window with his Clemens man love pieces and the declaration that Clemens couldn't have done PEDs because of how he saw him interact with his family, ignoring all of the evidence that exists about the issue. Those beer league softball stories were embarrassing.

I know some of you guys go out to practice and shoot the breeze with him and think he is a great guy and all but this isn't about his BSing skills at the practice field. He's a competent writer who probably is somewhat limited by what the Chron lets him do but some of his tweets are just absurd. You don't see other respected soccer writers post the junk he does.

Ha, I was watching KPRC news on Sunday after the Texans game and the whole broadcast was all Texans, no mention of the big playoff win the Dynamo had just completed. I called their tip line to let them know.

Channel 2 is the best for soccer coverage. Anyone who lists the score for a DC/NY game as: DC 1 Metrostars 0 is alright in my book!

It's like 1996 all over again. Let me guess, Echeverry scored the PK off the Rob Johnson foul.

I have to say, the Chronicle did put good coverage together on the Cup final and Ortiz is tweeting relevant stuff!!!

I also have to laugh because over the weekend I stumbled onto the Dynamo Theory website for the first time in several months and saw a neat little discussion and commentary about the Chron coverage and some Nigel Brooks responses in the comments section!!!

I will say this, I have no problem with the Chronicle erecting a pay wall or limiting certain articles to subscribers only. That's their right and it may not be worth the cost, but if they want to try and charge for content, feel free. They are only about 5 years late on this.

Man, I'm really jacked about Ortiz's recent run of articles. Puff pieces on Clemens (like 5 tweets on him going to a thing for soldiers, conveniently scheduled for 3 days after the HOF vote), Biggio, the continued lack of awareness or acknowledgment of PED usage by Clemens and Bagwell, tweets about other odd things.

Sounds like he may be going back to jock-sniffing the baseball beat.

I'm sorry, I just can't let this one pass:

No one, and I mean NO ONE, cares about whether or not scouts are looking at Clemens' kid in January. This guy is a journalist?? He's a family spokesman and puff piece writer!!!!!

But sadly, this is not all that uncommon in Houston with Clemens. The older one that the Astros drafted as a favor to Roger never made it and was never as good as the local media pumped him up to be (rumor was even though he had "signed" with UT for baseball, it was not on uh, merit).
