Great blog post, 15. I'm not very knowledgeable in statistics, so there's nothing I can really add to it. But I like the idea that the problem doesn't necessarily lie with the back 4, but more on group defending. It seems like that would make for an easier fix, than if the problem was more closely related to the defenders.
Agreed, nice analysis. We've been playing hodge-podge midfield a lot this season. Every game it's a new midfield. That means the ability to be solid on defense through the midfield may be undermined. We know that the players, to a man, understands how to give their all for defense. but, when you are out of your usual position, it is more difficult to know what the switch-offs are, where your areas of pressure are, etc. I have a feeling that this is the issue and it should get better as the season goes on.
This makes sense to me. Did you notice in the Chivas game how everything just seemed less tense when Morales entered the game? Everyone playing their normal midfield spot just makes the RSL machine work. However, I didn't notice it so much against LA.
we were in a different situation against LA By the time Morales hit the pitch, we were tied and LA was pressing the issue By the time Morales hit the pitch against Chivas, we were up 2 goals and in cruise control
Totally worth reading 15. Anecdotally, just consider your conclusions in light of all the goals we've given up on counterattacks while we've been upfield pushing to score ourselves. Good job.
Good write up. I like that you stayed objective, instead of diving into either of the extreme groups (sky is falling; team is perfect). One thing that might explain the trend better is showing the result for each game. You gave the overall results, but not individual. Is the trend to lose big games greater in the beginning of the season, at the end, or spread evenly throughout?
Great CCL match report over at Under the Crossbar. Read it here. I'm also contributing photos to this awesome RSL blog. I'd love to share my photos with other blogs as well, so if you have a request just let a brotha know. *Edit Wish I coulda been there last night--weeknight matches are nearly impossible for me to attend.
Just added an "RSL Fans" special set from the match last night to my Flickr. Check 'em out Here Are you in one of them?
A podcast a group of us are doing these days. We're at 3 episodes right now and it's been a lot of fun. Give em a listen. www.slcwreckingcrew.tumblr.com

Something I wrote in response to some of the criticism directed toward Sabo. Should go down well here....... (scoffs to himself) http://www.rslsoapbox.com/opinion/2...ls-that-matter-most-garbage-goals-and-golazos
So, this is "kind of" blog-like. I just created a community for RSL fans on Google+. I know I'm just about the only person on Google+ any more, but if anyone wants to join, it's at https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/114799084293480213562
