I loved Bruce’s F dig at New York “You know some organizations would kick you out for what happened here at the beginning of the year. This is the best place I’ve ever worked” (paraphrased)
Does anyone know what the eligibility for getting a winner’s medal/ring are? I know in the Prem you had to play a minimum number of games and minutes, but I think I saw Leonardo with a medal, does that mean Barrett and Gaudette would get medals and/or rings?
I was just reading some of the retrospective articles on Becks, and an article on Keane linked in his thread. I really think Bruce and Tim don't get enough credit for their contract and man management. Becks and Keane both have huge egos. They are not the easiest guys to work with. Hell... Becks demanded he be given a permanent transfer to AC Milan. The players deserve credit for delivering on the field... but Bruce and Tim made all the moves in the background to make that possible. I believe that they can go forward doing this and keep the Galaxy among the elite teams in the league. My one big concern is how long Bruce wants to stay at this. In his post-match press conference, he sounded pretty tired. Does anyone know how long his contract is?
So does anyone have any insight into the Championship Rally on Monday? http://www.lagalaxy.com/playoffs/mlscuprally Was there one last year? Is it worth going to? I'm deciding if I should stay home an extra day to go to that (and fly back to school on Tuesday...no classes this week anyways since it's Dead Week so we're just supposed to study for finals). The rally is only an hour long...so that kinda tells me that it won't really be a big well-planned event...
I'm thinking about it now. You can get a "patch of championship grass" for $5?! Can you imagine planting that until it became an entire yard of championship grass? How blessed your children would be learning to play soccer on such holy ground!
last year, they had the Cup out for a photo opportunity. this sounds like it will be something more, although not clear how much more.
Anyone know where I can find a good download of the MLS cup final? I've been living in Costa Rica and I missed it and would like to see it. If you can PM me the link(s), it'd be much appreciated. Thanks for the help, and congrats LA fans, I was rooting for you!
I'm not sure, but I kind of hope the whole squad gets a medal as this would mean Jack McBean has 2 more medals at 17 than Chivas USA
What a great season, very proud of this team. I can honestly say that all the players stepped up and when one of them fell short, another player stepped in to make the difference! GREAT CHAMPIONSHIP!
I just watched it on ESPN3.com under their Replay tab - not sure if that goes overseas. Also available as a torrent (I think BigSoccer blocks that word, PM me if you need to for details).
Want to share a few thoughts, now that I've watched the game on ESPN3, as well as in person yesterday. That is my favorite way to see games - once live and once on TV. Fun times. The game was such a physical battle. I thought beforehand that luck with injuries would play a big part, especially considering some of our gimpy guys like Donovan and Juninho. Well, the injury to Carr, which he was entirely at fault for, was definitely a turning point. Carr undercut Omar earlier during the first half, and the injury play happened right in front of me and was a dumb move by Carr. He could have earned a yellow on either play. The Galaxy played pretty physically, too, and Petrescu let quite a bit of foul play go. But when he had to call the PK's he did not hesitate, and I give him a lot of credit. Many times we see refs swallow their whistles because they don't want to decide such an important game. It was crazy in the stadium how many times we thought the team had scored when it was not to be. Landon's miss, which everyone on our end thought went into the goal, Robbie's offside goal, and then the Robbie goal that was called back for Omar's foul. It seemed like we just had to keep scoring over and over again. Omar is such a stud, I cannot get over what a massive game he had. The headers, as always, but cutting out passes with his feet, too, his decision-making was on, and on the scoring play he was just itching to get onto that pass from Juninho, staying open and waiting patiently for his chance. The picture of him rising a foot and a half over everyone, and the perfection of directing it far post - that is one of the alltime great LA Galaxy moments in history. His attitude, smile, effort - I will really miss him if he is not coming back next year. I hope like hell we can keep him one more year, and I would be ecstatic if we could sign him long term. Someday our club will be in a position to hang onto the absolute gems that we develop, but I don't suppose that day is here yet. I could go on all day - I'll just leave it at that for now. Congratulations, LA fans!!
Most intriguing photo Becks (net worth$250 million w/Posh) with Simon Fuller (net worth $560 million). L.A. Galaxy would probably fetch $200+ million. Not sure how much Tim Leiweke is worth, but pretty sure he’s in the 9-figure club too.
I come in peace. Nice victory. You guys played well and composed. The home field was the difference in my opinion. Totally different match if played in Houston but to the victor's go the spoils and we shat away too many pts to crappy teams at home this year which put us in this position. Random thoughts on your side-How the hell Keane is not being marketed more by LA and the league is beyond me. -you guys will be just fine without Landon if he goes. -Gonzales is a beast. Not ready for Europe quite yet but I could see by the summer transfer window. Remind me a lot of Geoff Cameron, just maybe a year or two behind in development but is exactly were Geoff was at this point in time. -Wil. the Swede is going to be a pain in the ass for a lot of teams. -Saunders looked really shaky every time we played you guys. I think you need to sure that up. -Mike Magee is terribly under rated. -Becks and Landy go?-Wow that's a lot of cap space. -if that cap space opens up, you'll have tough decisions was to where to spend it-CAM, F, GK. Congrats on the win.
congrats to LA galaxy. Its my favorite mls team. I will miss beckham, one of my favorite people and players. He will be missed...
Man I wish I could be there tomorrow for the post game celebration, but just being there yesterday is definitely suffice. the atmosphere was amazing, more so than last year. And when Omar scored our opening goal, the HDC was electric, you knew from that moment on we were going to seal it. We got our fourth! I hope everyone returns for the three-peat. This team is more than capable of doing it if we can keep most of the core components together. So great to be a G! Btw, it was fun seeing some LAG fans at the Rancho Yard House! It was fun celebrating this one because I couldn't do it last season seeing I had to fly back to SLC very early
Wow! What a thrilling ride the 2012 season was. Looking back on it, what do you all think was the low point of the season? I know there will be some that say the Galaxy got all the breaks/calls, but sometimes you create your own luck. If you look at all 4 penalty calls in the Galaxy favor, they were legitimate, at least you can argue they were. The only truly fortunate call for the Galaxy was the offside on Eddie Johnson and he scored 2 mins later, anyway and so it didn't really affect the outcome of that game (I know Seattle will disagree). Houston can't gripe about anything because 2 Galaxy goals were disallowed (The 1st rightly so, the 2nd should have stood). If Houston claims home town calls, we can all simply tell them: Earn more points during the regular season! Like the soccer hater Jim Rome says "Scoreboard!" Forget what Jim says, it's what we say: "MLS Champions!" Enjoy and savor it my fellow fans and see you all next season.
Hey, remember that header that Omar didn't win?? Yeah, I couldn't either. What a great game by Gonzilla.
There's two things we know as Galaxy fans: 1) Losing Finals. It always sucks. Its the worse feeling you can have as a sports fan. BUT If you're constantly making it to the big game, youre doing something right. Houston's a team I respect for their hardwork and scrappy attitude. They're in the right hands, and they'll win a 3rd star soon (though hopefully not against LA). 2) Winning trophies. This feels great. It felt magical this year. A packed Stadium of white shirts (and orange too! great support by the away team btw), and a feeling of destiny. I dont know if we'll see a 3peat but with Bruce anything is possible. He's at his best when he can rebuild a team and it looks like thats what he'll be doing. We're also in good hands. Enjoy, and cherish the present, but the future looks bright too. BTW, that Riot Squad banner: "This is Los Angeles. We win trophies. Deal with it" = BRILLIANT. Make that a shirt!!!
Thanks for the words. Still a little sore in the head and the throat this morning My thoughts on your points: 1) I would say the DPs more than the home field was the difference. If it's at your place, we likely sit a little deeper and punish with the counter attack which can be lethal with the longer balls from Beckham and ball control of Landon and Robbie. The last two years have shown that the DP experiment is a big success in terms of silverware. 2) He had a big push from the front office this year (Robbie masks, twitter competitions etc) but the wider media don't know him. Recently he was pictured on court at a Lakers game and the caption said something like "unknown galaxy fan" - whether a fake caption or not, the point is, tougher to market him than either Landon or Beckham. 3) I'm far more concerned about what we lose with Landon than Beckham. His vision and distribution behind the striker(s) is often the difference between a goal or not. When he himself is advanced, he is one of the safest pair of boots in the league (I still don't know how he missed that 1st half effort which would have changed the game and put the Dynamo on the back foot completely). 4) Agreed. For my money is in the discussion for best player in the MLS. His position more than his ability affects perception for him (no goals = no wide publicity). I would personally like him to stay below the radar (inc the MNT) as it gives the G's a better chance to keep him. Will be paid DP money before long if he stays. 5) Have to say, not a fan. I think he wastes a lot of opportunities and unless he wants very little, I wouldn't lose sleep if his trial ends. Not at all composed enough for my liking. 6) The colonel has his ups and downs. Makes some great saves and then a brain fart. But if there's one position the US are noted for it's the keeper and he may be on thin ice. I still like him but wouldn't be shocked if he were replaced at some point. 7) Quite how FIFA overlooks him for the Balon D'Or is quite frustrating. Tits is the man! 8) The Landon departure could go a number of ways. I am hopeful that he takes a sabattical and rejoins the team 6-9 months down the road. Should he leave, the money will be spent, but it's not so much the cap space as having the DP slots. This team will always spend the money if the marketing is right and Kaka would give a massive boost in the latino community. It's a nice position to be in and lots of talk from Tim lately of being a destination of choice which is a difference from the pre-Beckham days. I just hope that whoever is brought in still has football in their legs.
