Whoa! Missed that draw. So we get a Conference side, eh? Funny thing is that despite the relative lack of quality in the first 11, the quality of the reserves and youngsters just below it ought to be good enough to go though.
Should be fun to see and it might be shown as one of the comic big team in little grounds games that weekend
Non-league Harrogate Town have made it to the second round for the first time and have a replay against Hastings to make it to round three. I've kept tabs on Town ever since leaving though I never made it to Wetherby Road to watch them. Nice to see them make such giddy heights.
I know. But, to be honest, we have a more convincing second string than when Traore scored that own goal against Burnley (who actually played just one rung below). That said, nothing is guaranteed in football.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/dec/02/fa-cup-third-round-draw-liverpool We get a minnow for the third round. United gets West Ham.
Would love to have Borini back by then, because throwing him in against a conference side gives him a great chance to score some goals and get some confidence going.
i read that borini was organically expected to return in january, but might be able to resume training mid-december.
I hope Borini is ready soon anyway, we've missed him big time...contrary to what the Borini haters may think.
Mansfield wins 2-1. Tidy little stadium, should be a fun Cup tie. Team looks like a bunch of builders in a pub league.
They're coming off a high and really have nothing to lose. They will go for everything and will definitely be dangerous.
I had a chance to watch the match. Great atmosphere, fans created a lot of noise. Nothing I saw from them says we shouldn't be able to win with our 2nd team and youngsters. But stranger things have happened... They showed an image of the visitors locker room, and it's about 1/5 the size of ours at Anfield. And LB, they essentially are playing in a pub league. #16, Rhead, makes Grant Holt look skinny. And his gut on display...
Well the cup dream for Harrogate Town has ended after they lose on penalties to Hastings United. What the match lacked in quality it made up for in effort and heart. I'll be glad to watch the Reds again though. The non-league sides have a terrible time stringing passes together and keeping their shape. Still there were a couple of decent players who could definitely move up a division or two out on the pitch. The Town right back Samuels and United's Left back Whitehead being the most likely. Ah the magic of the FA Cup...
