Assuming we go younger route with camp cupcake like Jurgen has been saying, and it is mostly MLS/Scandinavian players, I hope the January roster is something like:

    GK-Hall, Kennedy, Hamid/Johnson
DF-Omar Gonzalez, Matt Besler, Austin Berry, Amobi Okugo, Steven Beitashour, Justin Morrow, Chance Myers, Matt Hedges
MF-Mix Diskerud, Josh Gatt, Conor O'Brien, Graham Zusi, Nick DeLeon, Dax Mccarty, Luis Silva, Perry Kitchen, Sal Zizzo
FW-Eddie Johnson, Chris Pontius, Juan Agudelo, Alan Gordon, Will Bruin

Some alternate options: Brad Davis, Chris Wondolowski, Jay Demerit, Kenny Cooper, Stephen Lenhart, CJ Sapong, Lee Nguyen, Eddie Gaven, Matt Hedges, Jack Mcinerney, Kyle Beckerman, Sam Cronin, Shea Salinas, Heath Pearce, Freddy Adu, Chris Rolfe, Kelyn Rowe, Mike Magee

I doubt guys like Davis, Wondo, Demerit get called up b/c of age though

George John and Alejandro Bedoya will probably be busy looking for new clubs

Our main goal should definitely be to find a new CB

    My lineup would be:

    Pontius--------Johnson--------Gatt
    ----------------Diskerud--------------
    ----------Mccarty-----O'Brien------
    Morrow---Besler------Omar---Beitashour
    -----------------Kennedy-------------

Definitely wanna see DeLeon get some PT too

I highly doubt the roster will be any bigger than 20 players.
He mentioned that he would reduce the roster to a point where only MLS and Scandanaves who are either on the fringe or can actually contribute in the hex will be called up.

Can't disagree with this too much... Although, Zusi should be a starter.

My picks: (forcing myself to stick with 23)
    GK: Clark, Johnson, Rimando
DF: Myers, Beitashour, Morrow, Berry, Hedges, Besler, Okugo, Gonzalez
MF: McCarty, Cronin, O' Brien, Diskerud, DeLeon, Zusi, Pontius, Gatt
    FW: Johnson, Agudelo, Bruin, Adu
*Adu and Cronin are my main two head scratchers. Adu is such an enigma that if you feel like he can perform then he's awesome, and with Cronin we need another young holding midfielder...and it's him or Kitchen. Also, i'm taking a stab with young center defenders Okugo, Berry, and Hedges, but I want to see if they can perform in camp. they probably won't receive minutes though. To fit them in, i had to drop a fullback (Sinovic) to keep it at 23.

    Game 1:
    -----------Pontius------E. Johnson------Gatt------------
    -------------------Diskerud-----Zusi----------------------
    --------------------------McCarty-------------------------
    Morrow--------------------------------------------Beitashour
    -----------------Besler-------------Gonzalez--------------
    --------------------------S. Johnson-----------------------

Bench: Rimando, Berry, Myers, Cronin, O' Brien, DeLeon, Agudelo

    Game 2:
    ----------Pontius-------Agudelo-------Gatt-------------
    -----------------O' Brien--------Zusi---------------------
    -------------------------McCarty-------------------------
    Morrow-------------------------------------------Beitashour
    ------------------Besler---------Gonzalez----------------
    ------------------------S. Johnson------------------------

Bench: Rimando, Berry, Myers, Cronin, Diskerud, Adu, Bruin

    Just Missed Out:
    GK: Hamid, Hall
    DF: Sinovic, Soares, Marshall, Alston
MF: Kitchen, Silva, Magee, Gaven, Evans
    FW: McInerney, Sapong, Cooper, Lenhart

    Omit:
    GK: N/A
    DF: DeMerit, John, Parkhurst, Goodson
MF: Shea, Davis, Clark, Beckerman, Donovan, Bedoya
    FW: Wondolowski, Gordon

We could try Zusi in the middle, but from what I've seen his best plays usually come from out wide. Imo its important we see what Pontius, Gatt and DeLeon can do on the wings

And I agree about Adu I wouldnt mind him at all just dont expect it

20 is a hard number to get down to, with what is a pretty talented group this year.

    GK: Hamid, Johnson, Rimando
    CB: Gonzalez, Besler, Berry, Okugo
    FB: Beitashour, Morrow, Myers
MF: Gatt, Diskerud, Pontius, Bedoya/DeLeon, O'Brien/Kitchen, McCarty, Zusi
    F: Agudelo, Johnson, Bruin

Chatter is that Bedoya will be leaving Sweden...depending on where he goes he might not be available. Same with O'Brien and Denmark.

I agree it IS a difficult cut this year. In fact, I'm just going to throw out a bunch of names that I think are deserving or should be interesting for this particular camp.

GK: Johnson, Kennedy, Rimando, Hamid, Hall
CB: Gonzales, Besler, Okugo, Berry, Hedges, John, Beitashour, Myers, Morrow, Pearce, Sinovic
Midfield: Zusi, Gatt, Diskerud, DeLeon, Silva, Pontius, McCarty, O'Brien, Bedoya, Cronin, Kitchen, Adu, Shea (health?)
F: EJ, Agudelo, Bruin, Wondolowski, Cooper, Gordon

Latest news is that Jurgen has said there will be 23 called in, and a mix of veterans and younger players, so I think Wondo has a pretty good chance of making it. To cut my list down to 23 I would take off Zizzo and one of Berry/Okugo/Hedges

I should've added Parkhurst, and--whether or not I approve--probably Goodson (wince!). Though the January camp is the perfect time to look at promising group of MLS guys competing to be Goodson's replacement.

But since Goodson is the #1 CD off the bench, he needs to be there to get in shape for 2/6.

Parkhurst might be making a transfer too though, and yeah I hope we are done with Goodson for a while

A great chance to call in the likes of Steve Clark, Brad Davis, & Omar Gonzalez. Unfortunately, I am sure we will see Goodson. Beckerman will be there too but at least he deserves it.

I wonder if Kenny Cooper will get a call up. Based on form he deserves it and at 28 he's not too old..But he has alot of competition. Jurgen has already mentioned Boyd; EJ and Agudelo are pretty much locks unless Juan moves to a new club, JK has called up Gordon before and he did well.. He would be competing with Gordon, Wondo, Bruin, maybe Lenhart and Sapong for a spot

Jurgen said it would be a mix of vets and younger guys. They have a decent chance of being called.

OK...so according to JK, the roster will be 23.

Also, has anyone seen that 2Bundelsiga has a 2 month winter break between mid December and February? Same with Austria. Possible Gyau and Brooks call ups?

    My 23:
GK: Hamid, Johnson, Rimando (Clark, Kennedy)
CB: Goodson, Besler, Gonzalez, Brooks (Berry, Okugo)
FB: Parkhurst, Beitashour, Morrow (Myers, Pearce)
MF: Diskerud, Gatt, Zusi, Gyau, McCarty, Bedoya, O'Brien, Beckerman (Evans, Kitchen)
F: Johnson, Pontius, Wondo, Agudelo, Boyd (Bruin)

1 veteran at each position. Brooks, Morrow, Gyau, O'Brien, McCarty and maybe Bedoya are the only ones I'm unsure of.

I doubt Brooks will be available, even with the winter break.

George John just re-signed with MLS, so he'll be available. I'd call him up over Brooks. John may be able to help us more quickly in the hex, while Brooks may be more of a long-term project. A centerback tandem of Goodson and Brooks would be interesting. Brooks keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeps growing, and is now reportedly closer to 6'7". Teams would just run underneath our bambi-on-skates formation.

To me that's what this camp should be about. Which of the young and fringe players are ready to help us in the hex?

Your the second person who said that to me about Brooks. The first just said Hertha is REALLY stingy with letting there players go...so will Gyau be available for St. Pauli?

Anyway, of the players I chose...
HEX HELPERS (could make a 23 man squad):
Rimando, Gonzalez, Besler, The 4th CB (-Goodson), Parkhurst, Beckerman, Diskerud, Gatt, Zusi, Johnson, Pontius, Agudelo, Boyd

I'd put Bedoya and O'Brien as possibilities just becasue they can play the wing, and if they show good, they could be included.

Hertha wouldn't release Morales for Olympic qualifying even though they didn't need him.
They're notorious for this on the youth threads for this. [Morales has kind of fallen off the radar hasn't he?] If the camp/game isn't on a FIFA date, our chances for getting the player are poor.

Perhaps Gyau will be available. We'll see................
St. Pauli's a different animal in many ways.

    Dicks.

Morales is an every match starter for Hertha's U23 in Regionalliga. Has 3 goals this season....but yes, he is far off the USMNT. He is really the only Klinsmann roster gamble of 2012 that did not pan out.

    Thanks for the info;
I was wondering if he was playing games since he wasn't getting any playing time with the 1st team.

Well, JK said a max of 23 in that article with Goff. So I'll take a shot. I'll assume US/Scandinavian's who are likely to be on the senior roster (or at least the top 18) are going to sit this one out. So Donovan, Goodson, Parkhurst, EJ, Zusi, and Beckerman will/would be left off intentionally.

JK mentioned Boyd specifically, so I'll include him.

    GK: Rimando, S. Johnson, Kennedy
    FB: Beitashour, Sarkodie, Morrow, Pearce
    CB: Gonzalez, Besler, DeMerit, John
    DM/CM: Clark, Kitchen
AM (CM/CAM, WM) Diskerud, DeLeon, Bedoya, Gatt, Pontius, Davis
    F: Boyd, Agudelo, Wondolowski, Johansson

    -----------------Rimando--------------
    Beitashour--Gonzalez--DeMerit--Morrow
    ------------------Clark------------------
    Gatt------------Diskerud--------Pontius
    ----------Boyd------Agudelo------------

    Subs:
    1) Besler for DeMerit
    2) Bedoya for Gatt
    3) Davis for Diskerud
    4) DeLeon for Pontius
    5) Wondo fo Agudelo
    6) Johansson for Boyd

The late dates of the camp will likely eliminate any German league participation. They are usually back in training at the tail end of the January camps which started right after New Year's Day. With this camp being two weeks later and stretching to the end of the month, those players will be eliminated.
