    Sure, newborns.

Wait, it was a Monty Python reference? Lost on me? It's been too long.

My biggest memory of Benny (besides some USMNT appearances) is when he unexpectedly got Nat Borchers ejected on a July 4 home match. I just remember him looking at Nat and saying "I'm sorry!"

Because Benny has only been in MLS for 2 years he isn't allowed to be in the Re-Entry draft. RSL would have trade with Revs to get his rights. :(

Eric Avila scored a beautiful goal against us to knock us out of the 2010 playoffs. I wouldn't mind having him on the team. Although he might be more of a traditional winger and might not fit in the diamond system.

Personally, I hope we stop using the diamond and move to a winger friendly formation. Other teams have figured RSL's diamond out.

Obviously we need to run the triangle/spade.

What is that actually called? A 4-3-2-1?

4-1-2-2-1 if it's a DM? Or just 4-5-1. I guess it depends on how picky you want to be.
We should just play with 0 defenders and trot out the flying V. Bring in Emilio to coach us to victory!

I think we should look at the players we have and then decide what system best fits them
but hey, that would make too much sense.

Force the ********ing diamond on Avila. FORCE IT!

I think every team has "figured out" most everyone's systems. The problem wasn't that the diamond midfield doesn't work, it's that we didn't have the right players in the diamond midfield. It's been said over and over again that we need someone with speed up top to allow for room in the middle to let our midfield do their thing. Short passing systems are hard to do with 15 people all within 20 feet of each other.

I'm fine with keeping the diamond midfield only if we bring in players that will allow it to work.

Well said, and rep to you. There's no formation that every team in MLS hasn't already seen. And it's not like one is head-and-shoulders better than the rest. To quote Urban Meyer, who "invented" the read option (aka spread) offense, "if one formation was clearly the best, everyone would use it."

At the end of the day, soccer is 11v11 (or 10v11 if you have Rafa Marquez) and players will usually end up occupying the same spaces on offense regardless of the formation.

I also think the RSL diamond missed another dynamic midfielder (Andy Williams, Clint Mathis type) that demanded attention from opposing defenses. That allowed other teams to key in on Javi and limit service to the forwards.

Agreed. If RSL keeps Morales, they need to add a complementing player that would make hack-a-Javi ineffective.

    This, very very much this
We weren't faster - in fact we were slower - with Andy on the pitch, but we had his vision. When he and Javi were out there, you couldn't double down on Javi without getting screwed by Andy (if he decided to move) getting the ball and picking out lethal balls.

Stage 1 is tomorrow. I read over on another thread that (thx Buzz) Segares, Tchani, Wynne, King, Nakazawa, Perk, Mapp, Gardner, Purdy, Wallace, White are no longer on the list. That usually means that those players are at least optimistic that they will re-sign with their current club. Seagares and Gardner have re-signed/traded.

    Here is the new list:
    http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...e-guzman-remain-available-2012-re-entry-draft

I'm still sticking to whats left of my picks from before, but only in Stage 2. I don't see RSL taking a chance in Stage 1.

    Clark, Colin
    Avila, Eric
