How many Red Bull players does a team need to pick to get the RB name and sponsorship money? If it's Chivas, would they get to move to NY and take over the stadium?

He is RSL's player. Montreal pays part of his salary (only a few people in Accounting know how much) as part of the deal that brought him here.

Surprise surprise: RSL takes MF Cole Grossman (CLB) in the waiver draft.

This is too damn complicated. Alternatively, I'm too damn lazy to take the 10 minutes I'd need to actually understand it.

Either case, thanks for keeping track of the ins and outs of MLS player movement regs, Ish.

My counterparts in Columbus are of the opinion that this was a nice pickup for RSL. I guess Grossman is an up-and-comer and they were excited to see him develop. Supposedly he had some issues with Columbus' management and asked to be released which is why he was waived today. Multiple people have told me he is a Kreis-type player (my words, not theirs)...hard worker, plays both ways, really focused on winning.

out of contract with a club option for 1 more year. The difficulty lies in the fact that RSL have not being paying the full contract up til this point. MTL paid the majority of it to sweeten the deal. If RSL are to extend they would have to pay the option price, which is ridiculous especially considering how little he played this year and how low the technical staff are on him right now. I would imagine we see him released some time soon/notification of his option not being picked up/a trade of some kind.

Has an offensive past but for some reason loves defense when playing for us?

The re-entry draft hasn't been hyper-active in the past.

I'm going to predict that it WILL be this time around especially in the 2nd phase.

Hey just wanted to come over and say Congrads on getting Grossman. I hate losing him to another team but hey as long as the Crew have the Polish Moron Coaching, I can see the Crew having more players wanting out because of the Dingleberry. Well Good luck next year, I'm sure you guys will have a better year then we will have. FIRE RW.

    Cheers.

I feel like RSL just wanted to get some more feet in their camp. I hope Grossman works out and pushes those who might feel that they are entitled to a position. But I don't think he will end up in a RSL jersey in 2013.

Any thoughts on what older players will be available in the Re-Entry Draft? Is Conor Casey the only one that is actually known at this point? Or does he not match that critieria?

Columbus joins New York among the ranks of teams cleaning house (or, at least, hoping to renegotiate a lot of contracts): They just declined options on Will Hesmer, Rich Balchan, Julius James, Sebastian Miranda, Chris Birchall, Tony Tchani, and Tom Heinemann. They will go into the re-entry draft next week.

Some good names here, though I don't expect RSL to pick any of them up at their current prices.

Doesn't the re-entry draft allow teams to negotiate with waived players for a lower salary? The waiver draft is the round where you have to pay the option price if I remember correctly.

You're correct, except that before you renegotiate with waived players, other teams have the option to pick up the player at their current salary. So the re-entry draft is a bit of a poker game: It's the vehicle to negotiate a lower salary with one of your players who is under contract, but you do it with the risk that another team may snap up your player at his current pay. You have to be pretty certain that not only you but every other team also doesn't want your player at his current price.

So any guess on what we might do with Morales and or Olave?

    Two different cases here.
Morales is out of contract, so putting him in the re-entry draft would make no sense. If RSL wants to keep him but at a lower price, they can try to do that today. My guess is Morales either re-signs with a pay cut, gets a sign-and-trade, or walks and becomes a free agent.
Olave is still under contract, so RSL would have to put him in the re-entry draft if they want to lower his pay. I think that would be risky because some desperate team out there might take him at his current pay....if you're RSL, that's the last thing you want to happen because you lose Olave and get nothing in return (except his cap room). If he does end up in the re-entry draft, I think it's a sign that RSL is desperate about trying to clear cap space. Most likely I think Olave either stays or gets traded.

San Jose's list of option-declined players: Ramiro Corrales, Ike Opara, Khari Stephenson, Joey Gjertsen, Tim Ward

EDIT: Never mind... only Ramiro Corrales on that list. The person responsible for leaking the rest of that information has been sacked. :)

Not sure where you were going with that, but here is the same list from the Quakes website:
    http://www.sjearthquakes.com/news/2012/11/quakes-decline-options-five-players

I think all of them but Corrales have some value. Corrales, I have heard, will just become a member of the coaching staff, maybe staged as a player/coach for 2013 like Wolff and Hernandez were this past year.

Also, Kevin Hartman's agent announced on Twitter that KH's option was not being picked up by Dallas.

OK, I guess the leakers in San Jose can't get their story straight. I'm just the messenger here.:)

Those responsible for sacking the person who released the aforementioned information, have been sacked.
