Garber announced today that the new season would kick off March 2. No guarantee that we kick off that date, but figured I'd get this started.
Depends on the weather. If it is going to be snowing and cold as shit, I would rather play a couple of road games or maybe we get 80s again in March. Last weekend of March last year I was on a boat wearing nothing but shorts while fishing.
I don't mind a few cold games to balance the summer heat. Plus I think Livestrong looks cool when everyone is wearing their dark coats.
It depends on how cold and if there is any precipitation. We had some really bad games at CAB and other than the first playoff game last year, we have lucked out so far at LSP. I remember pulling into the CAB parking lot one game and there was sleet and snow falling parallel to the parking lot because the wind was blowing so hard. The wind chill was in the teens. We spent the entire tailgate sitting on coolers behind our cars pass around a bottle of 151 to keep warm.
Pretty sure that was the April 5th game against San Jose in 2009 where they almost lost the Lopez banner.
That was the most miserable I've ever been at a game, and we won too. That game is the sole reason I scoff at people who think a Fall->Spring schedule would work.
Yup... The lenses on the TV cameras kept icing over, and I think one of them was blown over during halftime.
Saprissa match at Arrowhead. Attendance was just north of 1K. That is the coldest I've ever been at a Wizards/SKC match.
Yeah, if I remember correctly, we were in shorts for the first game, the second game we were in coats and that third game was probably the most miserable I have ever been at a sporting event. We seemed to get 1 or 2 games at CAB that were pretty damn cold. We brought out a fire pit to one game. There was also a game that it was so cold and wet that I kept taking off my socks and putting them on top of the grill to dry them out. It was actually warmer standing barefoot out there than having soaking wet socks and shoes.
I just remember that there was one of the autograph sessions after that game, wasn't warm until standing around for about 30 minutes inside D&B, but I figured that the weather kept that line shorter than it would have been otherwise. Fortunately LSP has significantly more shelter than CAB (where it seemed the wind came right off the prairie and through the stadium right to the Cauldron). I would also hope that they would be able to setup heaters on the concourses as well as there are a lot more indoor spaces at LSP - it still wouldn't be great, but if it happened again we'd be much better off. Maybe the metal portions of the roof are hooked up to some heating system which can radiate heat down on the crowd, or they put in the world's largest in-floor heating system in the concrete and we just haven't had a chance to use it yet.
This actually exists, but you can't use it yet... The mobile phone app to control it won't be available until the 2015 season.
I dont really care about the weather once into the game. It is tailgating that sucks in that kind of weather although it never stops me from going out and doing it anyway. Once inside the stadium, squeezed in with all those people, it is never too bad.
sounds like first kick opponent as well as home opener (if the two are different) will be announced next week.
Three home openers for SKC in 2013--at Philadelphia on 03/02, at Toronto on 03/09, and at LSP vs. Chicago on 03/16. Oddly, the location of the game at Toronto is listed as "TBD".
