1996 Jim Mora may be on to something with this summation of yesterday's match... "We couldn't do diddly poo offensively." Well said, Jim.
It is not an excuse, it is reality. We knew this was going to be a tough month. Are Inter, Lazio & Milan slouches? You and others continue to whine about our attack. So what is the solution? The truth is that there is none. The next bum brought in won't fare better than the others. This is not a perfect team. Guess what? None exist.
According to most people on these boards, yes. Serie A and her other 19 clubs are shit, and we've got it all wrapped up.
Yeah we whine, we whine because our attack sucks and sucks big time. The stats don't lie. Hell even Marotta's now admitting that it's not good enough. Solution? Buy better attacking players. They're out there, it's just you don't think so.
So is there a specialty grocery store for attackers? Who is it that you want that a) won't cost an arm & a leg; and b) can really make a difference.
Llorente would be better than all but one of our attackers at this point, and guess what he'll be free come June. Juve should make a play for Drogba as well, better than all our attackers combined.
While I agree, we couldn't match his wage demands. I'd love to have him, but I don't think we'd be able to pay him. This seems like the most logical of choices, but who knows if he won't stay in Spain when his contract is up. I think he'd be a terrific fit here.
But spending more than €20 million for a striker is foolish, he will add nothing to this team. We've already got guys that cost nearly that much and do nothing.
If Juve qualifies for the next round of the CL then I think saying we can't afford his wages would be a poor excuse. Juve can, they simply choose not to.
They can afford anyone's wages. It's that they choose not to afford them. That's all I was getting at. We could afford to pay any one of our players 10m a year easily. Management just chooses not to do it. We'll be going through this every single year until they decide to take that risk again, and bring in a player who is on a high salary. The problem is that Secco was a moron. He didn't know players in this game, and he didn't know their values. Who in their right mind would offer Amauri a contract paying 9m a year?? Marotta actually knows what he's doing. While we don't always agree with his choices, he's not an idiot. They're just afraid to give him the keys because they don't want players with high salaries, so they tell him to find quality players with bargain bin salaries. If you have a player with a low salary, it's easier to offload them if it doesn't work out. They're just afraid of another Amauri situation. While I can understand that sentiment, that's just like saying that you're not going to go out with hot girls anymore just because the last one you went out with cheated on you, and left you brokenhearted.
They are both big players and I think Matri would have the same amount of goals as him had he been at one club for a long period of time.
Big players how? Matri's an even 6', not really all that big. Llorente is 6'5"... oh and apparently Llorente's last name is Torres... hmmm.
I think Llorente would be a hassle to defend on set pieces, because hes so big and he has a killer header, if you guys get him all the power to you, Athletic Bilbao are a bitch and a half to deal with in terms of transfers, just ask Bayern Munich about the Javi Martinez saga.
You guys have always been right about guys like Pepe, Vucinic, Barzagli, Marchisio, Bonucci...oh wait. I'm sure Isla will find his stride.
Thing is, Llorente is out of contact in June and has said he has no plans on staying with Bilbao. I'd gladly wait until June to have him join, as long as Marotta can get him signed in January.
