I realize the subsequent post lists the live streams available to watching the Sweet 16 round, but why aren't any of these matches on Fox Soccer? We get regular season NSCAA games of the week, but no NCAA tournament matches until the semi-finals? This round leading to the quarter-finals has some excellent match-ups, and would it really be all that much to ask for some cable station to air this competition? There was an FA Cup 3rd round game on Fox Soccer a few weeks ago featuring Barnstormouthyard-on-Stratmythe Blacksmiths vs Herenfeicestershire FFC (Frickin Fitbah Club)...local US affiliations=0.

College soccer is a third tier sport when it comes to being televised.

if the broadcasters thought they could get more viewers with college soccer than they could with nfl, college basketball, other soccer matches, or the kardashians, they would put these games on tv. it's all about selling ads, man.

Additionally, regular season matches can be scheduled before the season even starts - getting FSC/CBSSN crews or whoever to universities on short notice and fitting unscheduled matches into the schedules is easier imagined than done. I get it.

Perhaps the nuetral sites for quarter final games should be selected pre season....The NCAA ought yo look at Revenue as well as costs.....seems to work ok for BB

You'd think if the NSCAA could get BYU women vs Texas as a game of the week, they could get Notre Dame men vs Indiana in the round of 16. These are household name institutions, that in themselves, might draw a curious onlooker to at least watch the colors on the field even if they know nothing about soccer.
I am not naive, of course, the bottom line is advertizing money and ratings numbers. But how much did they draw with their scheduled games of the week? I can't believe it would amount to any significant percentage more than what they would draw with a tournament match.
And anything they had to "hastily" throw together regarding staffing and event preparation, location scouting, could not be any worse than what inSport showed for their couple of national team qualifiers.
    Something is better than nothing.

Exactly! I've been waiting for someone -- anyone-- to see this. One of the best ways for soccer to market itself -- at both the college and professional levels--is to associate with big time sports brands. For men's college soccer think UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Washington, Notre Dame, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, Duke, North Carolina etc: athletic departments with both dollars and national name recognition, almost always based on football or basketball or both. To a lesser extent Georgetown, Virginia, Maryland, SMU, etc

This isn't rocket science. Notre Dame versus Indiana is a huge opportunity to market the sport. Akron Creighton might be as good a game or even better, but Notre Dame Indiana is a better matchup for promoting the sport long term. Sorry if this offends anyone, but it's the truth.

Sorry I also forgot Kentucky-- another big time name recognition school.

A list of what? Each team's home pages?

The list that I have. (Hint: went to the NCAA Interactive Bracket. Select on the date-time portion of each game. If the center of the pop-up window has a big red "watch live" button, it's URL is here):

    http://www.ncaa?.com/sports/soccer-men/d1

    home team listed first

    #1 Notre Dame [3:00] #16 Indiana; http://undlive.nbcsports.com/Player.html?PID=103

    #9 North Carolina [5:00] Fairleigh Dickinson; http://www.goheels.com/liveEvents/liveEvents.dbml?&DB_LANG=C&SITE=UNC&DB_OEM_ID=3350

    #5 Akron [4:30] #12 Creighton; http://www.mac-sports.com/Schools/Akron/LiveStreaming.aspx

    #4 Connecticut [1:00] #13 New Mexico

    #3 Georgetown [1:00] Syracuse; http://ulive.cbssports.com/index-ncaa.html?media=353557

    #11 Tulsa [6:00] San Diego; http://ulive.cbssports.com/index-ncaa.html?media=353769

    #10 Louisville [7:00] Northwestern

    #2 Maryland [5:00] Coastal Carolina; http://ulive.cbssports.com/index-ncaa.html?media=354170

This is the kind of stuff that I find when I'm building my calendar (listed in my signature) of Detroit-area soccer.

Leaving the comparisons to basketball aside... I had wondered that maybe the final-four should become a final-eight. (I brought this up during the discussions of having a combined mens-womens finals.) [And, yes, before you say it... it would probably mean the final site has artificial turf.]

I find it interesting that the NAIA plays their final-16 at one site, within a week (this upcoming week, BTW).

Men's lacrosse went to pre-selected QF's. The main differences are the number of teams, and that most lacrosse programs are east-coast-based. It does kind of hose a western (i.e. mid-western) team that plays a great season to get an overall-top-four seed, only to have their QF hosting taken away from them; so there are plusses-and-minusses on this.

I'm hoping that maybe the early-round TV/streaming could get more standardized by next year. It was the middle of last season that the Men's D-I Basketball tournament got its TV deal re-structured; before that, CBS owned the rights to every round of every one of 80+ championshipts (that hadn't already been awarded to ESPN, like women's basketball, baseball, or the soccer finals). They had no reason to show the early-rounds of anything. And in the meantime, constructs like conference-based TV channels (or singluars like the BYU or Longhorn channels) got created, but couldn't show any tournament games. The new basketball-only deal opens up the spectrum for more outlets to show games on their own.

Both early streams are up and running. UConn field looks beautiful, hope Georgetown isn't as bad as it looks.

The choppiness of this UConn feed is awful. Where's your bandwidth?

Morrone Stadium is an old stadium and it is not wired properly. Sucks for us, because this is almost unwatchable.

Yeah I wanted to watch the UConn game, but I had to switch to Georgetown. Not much going for either team so far.

That feed was too choppy for me to watch.

I'd rather have no feed than that. Watching 'Cuse-Hoyas. (Which, sadly, is a bike ride from my house but I have to watch the kids this afternoon and they had no interest in sitting through a cold game.)
