So Barack Hussein Obama has been re-elected! Obama is supposedly a soccer fan. does anybody else think that if Obama and the State Department were to get behind a movement to reform FIFA, it might be possible to make some changes? perhaps Obama could help get the 2022 World Cup for the USA and nip this Qatar fiasco in the bud? what do people think? where are the soccer lobbyists at???
Do you live in CO? Are you high? FIFA will never allow itself to be reformed. Qatar bribed the right officials for the WC. Based on FIFA's requirements, that is good enough.
FIFA has, on numerous occasions, suspended national associations in response to government interference. I don't see any government, not even the US, being able to push change in FIFA. Besides, the president has far more pressing things to deal with than FIFA. FIFA's never going to be among any president's top 100 priorities, let alone top 10. The most he'll do is possibly speak in support of hosting future FIFA events.
duh, of course i'm high. but that doesn't mean it isn't worth talkin' about. FIFA must be reformed. it has to happen someday. and it's gonna to take someone with some serious power to make it happen. like, say, the President of the United States. i realize it's unlikely and he has more pressing matters on his plate. but he's also a big sports fan and i'm sure he understands what a big deal it would be to get the World Cup for the USA. it probly won't happen. but it definitely won't happen if nobody even tries...
I bet that at least half of the people working for the US government don't even know what FIFA is, or even heard of the world cup.
My plan is to move to Germany I have an apartment in Berlin I have not moved in as yet. It is two buildings from my daughters building. I got it originally so I can spend more time with my 2 year old grandson during the summer months. But now I am selling and closing my businesses in the United States and will be moving permanently to Berlin starting may of 2013. My home here I will be keeping but will let my oldest son and my youngest son live there. So I don't care with Obama does, but his daughters play. I hope his daughter do well in my game.
No, it's because your original post is beyond idiotic. You discount the realities of FIFA, which answers to no government under any circumstances, and the fact that Obama is a very, very busy man with far bigger things on his plate these days, given the state of this very ********ed up world.
Putting aside the question of whether Obama has bigger fish to fry, I guaranty that if an American President decided to clean up FIFA, the organization would be squeaky clean so fast, it would make your head spin. FIFA gets to remain corrupt because no one really cares about such an unimportant backwater.
No one cares about FIFA? All I ever hear is soccer fans bitching and moaning about how corrupt and backward Blatter and FIFA are! People have been complaining for decades.
It probably wouldn't be that hard to take over FIFA. People in general aren't that bright and a lot of Americans fear anything from the Middle East. A slow, steady 4 month propaganda spree would likely convince Americans that we need to bomb FIFA. Qatar= Islam. Islam = Osama bin Laden. Qatar = Deal with FIFA. Therefore, FIFA = Deal with Osama bin Laden. Thus, FIFA had a hand in 9/11 and is a threat to national security. Bomb Switzerland. Boom, 2022 is ours.
What makes you think that just because he is a US President it will make any difference? Why do you think he would have more 'sway' over what FIFA does than anybody else???
Clean up American soccer and the USSF first genius. That is what the American President needs to look at before FIFA.
hey that's cool, you can make up new words or poke fun at my medication but it seems needlessly negative, considering what i'm suggesting is not that far out. the World Cup is still over 9 years away. and people all over the world know how illegitimate the Qatar World Cup is. and there is precedent- the site of the 1986 World Cup was changed from Colombia to Mexico only three years before the Cup. are y'all gonna give up on another World Cup in the USA that quickly? which is precisely why i think a politician like Obama would be one of the few people with the international power to make a move to clean up FIFA. but i don't wanna argue about it. whatever...
It was changed after Colombia decided to pull out. Is Qatar going to decide to pull out of 2022? Maybe, but I'm not counting on it.
I'd like to see our president ban commercial import of FIFA's product into our television market until FIFA makes changes in their rules regarding Americans moving to Europe to play. Until they start eliminating those restrictions and difficulties Obama should . The governing body of soccer needs to be held accountable. BeIn will make them come around if they are violating anti trust and treaty obligations. It's well past the time for an open shop policy. Some lawyer should be suing that organisation right now. We deserve equal opportunity. Now as our countries decade old theft of athletic intellectual property is bearing fruit, we should be asking our legislators...no ....Demanding our legislators look into this unfair balance and provide justice for all. There wouldn't be a FIFA if our dads hadn't gone over there in the 40's, and now this is the thanks we get.
That comment is hilarious. I think you're all overestimating how much influence Obama has. Didn't do much for winning the Olympics for Chicago did he?
