Throw all Houston related sports topics here that aren't about the Dynamo!!!

Houston Astros, Texans, Aeros, and Rockets stuff goes here!! Let's go!

How do y'all feel about Harden? Can we build a team around him for many years to come? Was Jeremy Lin worth it?

How do you feel the Astros will do in the AL? Will the eventually go back to their former glory? How long will it take? Are those new uniforms amazing or orgasmic?

How do you feel about the lack of power play goals that the Aeros score? Why is our defense so horrible? Why aren't we attacking as well as in previous years?

10-1 Texans, are they better than past Oilers teams that were a win away from the Super Bowl? Do they still need to accomplish more? Warren Moon or Matt Schaub?

How do you feel about the Cougars leaving Conference USA? Are we relegated to no more titles?

I miss the Comets, how about you?

Bumping this thread...Texans win. And I'm thankful MLS doesn't have some ridiculous replay rules like this! Olsen could have challenged the play, but if he challenged the play and the referee was already going to review the play then no one is allowed to review the play because you're only allowed to ask for a review, if they weren't already going to review the play?!!?!!

Who the F*%k wrote that rule? And how did they ever get anyone to agree to it?

I'm thankful for that rule...until it screws us in the future.

It screwed us in 2010 when Gary challenged a reviewable play. It was payback for the non PI call on the previous play and all of Suh's bullshit and dirty play. ******** the lions.

That rule is there to protect the refs from pissed off coaches. If they can't control themselves, they (potentially) screw over their team. Makes perfect sense. The NFL doesn't have the same rules in place to protect their zebras that FIFA does (which is the 3 strike rule in general or ejection for serious).

I see your point but I disagree on the logic of the rule. I understand that something is required to prevent coaches from challenging everything. But in a league that uses replay, to have a play allowed as a scoring play that both teams, both coaches, the referees, the guy who ran the ball, 70,000 people in the stadium and millions watching on TV know to be incorrect is absurd beyond the point of belief.

Totally denying a review in that situation is like if I was preparing to mow my lawn. I had gas in the mower, and was tying my shoes to walk outside when my wife said, "When are you ever going to mow that lawn?" And simply because she asked, I refused to do it at all. There's just no forgiving the stupidity inherent in that rule.

You mustnve had a really nagging wife/girlfriend. In that situation, i'd not mow the lawn either! Be like: "Can't you see I'm about to do it?!?!" :D

There is nothing inherently wrong with the rule, just that situation. If you can't control yourself, be prepared to suffer the consequences. Refs shouldn't have to deal with that crap anyways. Coach knew the rules (and if not he should be lumped in with Mama Goats' coach of SuperLiga infamy).

    Good call, play on.

I understand for plays that are not reviewable, but for plays that are automatically reviewed, how difficult is it for the lines judge or field judge to walk up to the flag, pick it up, hand it to the coach and say "it's automatically reviewed"? No time or momentum is wasted since they have to stop to review the play anyway

If the ref feels like it was a mistake or wishes to be lenient, he might just do that. Like anything else with reffing, it's ITOOTR. He enforced the rule. If you really feel bad about it, write to the NFL. They make the rules, the zebras just enforce them as best they can.

I wasn't saying the refs should have done that this game, just that the rule makes no sense for those situations. If the flag is thrown on a non reviewable play then the penalty makes sense, on a reviewable play it doesn't. You were saying there was nothing wrong with the rule, that's what I was replying to. The rule is made so that coaches don't throw the flag trying to waste time and slow down momentum, in reviewable play situations that's not a concern, so there is something inherently wrong with the rule.

Dude. Who here actually has the Comcast channel? I'm still quite upset about the whole situation. Most bars don't even carry the channel

Agree - it would be a good idea to have all other sports talk in one thread. I'll merge this thread with the one about Texans-Lions

    edit: done.

It's one of those NFL rules that don't make much sense like the tuck rule or continuation of a catch in the endzone. I heard the referee explain it and I still don't understand. The Lions coach said he was aware of the rule before the play happened. If that's the case, he really has no one to blame but himself.

And he did blame himself in post game interview.

UH going to the Big East is good news because it gets them a chance to play in a BCS bowl game or the National Championship. Plus, being in a major power conference will get them the best athletes in recruiting.

Parsons and Harden had an amazing game against the Knicks today. Did the Knicks even have a defense?
