Not really. We just need teams to have to respect our width, that can be accomplished without putting another one of our creative players on the bench. Klose works because he brings both, aerial ability and fitting with the rest of the team thanks to his phenomenal movement, intelligence and technique. But after him all of our forwards don't fit the style that our other attackers excel with.

Why would they "respect our width" if there is no threat in the middle. There is a reason that Spain plays vertically down the center and makes very little use of real width when they don't have CF in the line-up.

Thomas Mueller. He is 6ft1. He can do that.

I hope so, because I've never seen him do it on a consistent basis. He tends to lose most of his aerial duels.

Thats why i think players like Petersen, Kiessling or Polter...........all play regularly for for clubs, should be given a chance for the National team

No thanks. None of them have good enough technique.

Germany has no striker worth any real value besides gomez. maybe in the future but not at the moment.

Unfortunately this is the case. Hopefully someone will have a breakout year like Klose did in 2001.

They'd respect it because with Ozil, the winger and the fullback we'd still have overloads out wide to play in from. Spain is slightly different, they play strikerless to fit central players like Cesc and Silva into the squad, we'd be doing it to fit wide guys like Ozil, Mueller and Reus. We would need to win some headers, but that doesn't mean we need to play it like Chelsea did versus Juve, using their extra creators to get it out wide, but then launching in crosses for no one.

Kiessling, Nils Petersen and Polter. Three CFs who play regularly in Bundesliga n decent aerial threat especially Petersen

Yesil will not make it - am pretty sure after he went to Liverpool. I trust Leverkusen in this department to judge his character and abilities to play pro-level better - they would have never let him go if they would have had big hopes in him

Volland might be there - although he didnt score many goals in the season, he will make it eventually in the league due to his physical abilities, quickness and football abilities... hes a good playing striker who already has 6 assists in the season.

Lasogga can be another possibility. Had he wasn't injured, he would've been playing for HSV, Lazio or Werder Bremen already. He is a tank with great scoring instinct and clinical finishing. I do rate him

On the other hand, if he wanted Gomez to be fully confident he could have publicly stated "Miro is healthy but Gomez is my undisputed starter" regardless of how bad Miro's injuries actually were. Many coaches have showed such displays of faith in a player, and often times the player responds in a positive fashion.

Well it matters because we know that he will be very prone to injury come 2014. So even if he starts the tournament in perfect health, the chances of him playing 7 straight matches in a congested schedule at 100% or even 90% health are very slim. On top of that, he will be older and slower even when he is healthy. Which is why we must iron out a better alternative now, and the Goetze up top 4-3-3 didn't exactly pan out last match.

If we go with Klose in 2014 as our #1 I see him putting on a Schweinsteiger EM2012 type performance (ie. obviously not fit enough to play near his peak game, an overall weakness in our team).

And if Loew opts for Gomez, well Mario comes with a bundle of his own problems, I will let others talk about those instead.

The funny thing is that no one respects the movement against Spain either. They all just cram as many defensive players in the middle as possible. That's why Spain's system results in a bunch of 1-0 wins. It's pretty easy to defend against since there is no target man to worry about so you can surrender the flanks to your opponent. We then see the usual pattern appear of Spain trying to pass their way through the center with no other tactical options in use and a the result is a frustrating 1-0.

Yet they had the most goals in Euro?

That seemed to be true in wc2010, but they really upper their goal scoring at the euros.. This without villa.
Even the 4-6-0 was working for them somehow..

You have to recognize that statistics matter. None of those strikers can pull off 25 goals a season. Yesil looks a decent talent, but the fact that he hasnt gotten any games under Rodgers, is very telling.
