Wants to be an owner Beckham’s original five-year contract included the option to buy a franchise after he retires from playing in the U.S. and Leiweke has said MLS has made arrangements for Beckham to become an owner and run his own franchise. Nicky Ballsack!! Do the Right Thing!!
Ok good. On an other note..... he was a good ambassador of the league, can't remember any tabloid sh!t or extravagant demands..... a total professional as far as I'm concerned and will be missed from MLS....He's got the best right peg in the game!
He's been awesome for the league and for the sport in the US. It was a mess in the beginning, partially due to Beckham's handlers and partially due to Steve Sidwell being a freaking maniac, but it's been enormous. There may not have beeen a Philadelphia Union if Beckham hadn't come to the league.
Sorry, I tend to think people don't take a fair approach to his tenure with the league. Too much time was spent in selfish pursuits causing him to miss far too many MLS matches. This always conveniently gets left out of most storylines of Beckham in MLS. Did he do a lot of good for the league, yes, but much like historical figures we are whitewashing his time here. I'm not saying he wasn't good, I'm saying people need to take a more balance view of his time here. He got paid a lot of money for not a lot of time on the field.
End of story for me........Don't really care about the amount of games he missed for the Galaxy. But I also think that FOXSOCCER CHANNEL and ESPN have done more growing the sport in the US by showing Premier league games and Champions League games!
No, he had the assist on Buddle's winning goal in 2010. http://www.phillysoccerpage.net/2010/10/08/philadelphia-union-0-1-los-angeles-galaxy/
I remember Becks stating how impressed he was with our crowd, that our derisive chants aimed at him and were all in good fun. He compared PPL Park that night to what you normally experience in a European stadium.
