Speaking of the Derby, what time is the game Sat? The Flash website says 5pm, the Boca website says 7pm?
Flash played at 5 this last weekend, maybe they don't want to pay for lights.. must be too expensive.
I think most of their games have always been at 5. And they still pay for the lights during the latter half of the game anyway so it's not a cost thing .
Yes, game at 5pm this Saturday since it's a Flash home game. Boca home games are at 7pm. Boca's schedule on their website looks like someone just filled in 7pm for all the game times; the times for the away games might differ. Also, did anyone else see this article about Juan "Kichi" Perez winning NPSL player of the week for last week? He scored both of Boca's goals in their 2-2 tie with Santa Clarita. Good game no doubt, but weird that the league would give it to him and not Brandon Zuniga, who scored a hat-trick in the Flash's 4-0 win. Seems like 3 goals would trump 2 goals.
I'm surprised there's an NPSL player of the week with how many clubs there are, but yes that is odd and pretty obvious to whom it should go to based on goals
Yeah I was surprised too; I didn't see any mention of player of the week awards last year. It was a bit easier this week since only the West has started playing. Much more difficult once everyone joins in.
They did the player of the week last year. Though I do agree that it is odd that a player who scored two goals (one on a PK which is usually a gimme), over a player with a hat trick from 3 open field goals.
Soccer Nation write up of the derby: http://www.soccernation.com/npsls-san-diego-soccer-derby-ends-in-draw-cms-2632
Had the time to go watch boca vs hasental, man was I disappointed an early goal(seems to be the norm now) followed by 1 or 2 attempts to come back then down 2-0 credit to hasental who played well in each of their lines, kept good possession was solid through out most of the match in defense and created some good and decent chances coming into the game I was thinking boca would be the favorite since flash beat hasental 4-0, the main problem for boca was the mid, they couldn't set up situations, had trouble controlling the ball and were forced to play more towards the wide areas which had its own problem with some players not passing the ball some good individual performances, GK steve managed to keep the scoreline lower than it should have, right back had a solid night and one forward player forgot who but as a team boca lacked game would finish 2-1 with boca's goal being a long cross and a nice header in the 30th min of the second half attendance was decent, I counted 200 heads before kick off(including kids) and some came after, official is probably going to be around 250-300
San Diego Boca FC Release Goalkeeper Steve Gonzalez http://www.soccernation.com/san-diegos-steve-gonzalez-released-from-sd-boca-fc-cms-2773
wow didn't see this coming, sure steve wasn't the best but I thought he was part of the boca plan, after reading a that very good piece I have to say I agree with steve, it was pretty obvious from just 3 of the games I have seen this season that they weren't working on fixing errors, hasental/rangers/tsunami all scored at least 1 goal in exactly the same way through ball or lobbed ball in the middle with only 1 or 2 guys running back to defend leaving steve pretty much naked and hopeless which was frustrating to watch since this season the club has better defenders(though DM position needs work) personally I'll miss steve to some degree, he saved boca some face multiple times and created some nice moments, hopefully the next guy is at a decent level
interesting to note that though boca claims that they focus or partly focus on developing players but here we have steve saying other wise which brings up a problem, either boca needs to work on developing players and a sense of play with improvements(in play not results) or just focus on winning and winning from back to front Yan says he wants the play offs, fine focus on winning as of now though boca is not doing either
I went to the match tonight, and we won 3-1 against Sonoma County Sol. It got very cold out there, but it was a great match. Wasn't sure who would win. I overheard some NPSL (?) people commenting on our goals not being perfectly 90 deg. First time this year for various reasons, but I look forward to next round vs. the Flash.
Boca's owner Yan Skwara was convicted of securities fraud and was sentenced back in July. Not sure what the sentence was however. He did turn on his friend as I understand it and testified for the prosecution.
So, can we pretty much say this soccer team is dead, or did someone else step forward to buy it/run it/whatever? I hate the idea of not having a team near downtown, but something has always seemed a bit weird.
its definitely digressed, from the boca store moving to the website being very subpar I would just let it burn on the ground but we'll have to see if they still survive next year
And I have nothing against the Flash. I wish them well. But I am bus-reliant, and that team appears to be well off of any line.
