You aimed for Barca and ended up like us, that is a big fail :p, nah our wingers are excellent defensively but that is all to them at the moment. (not counting Nani of course).

Amazing what organized pressing can do for you in Europe.

well... "A three man backline isn't Spanishbut to correct you, I prefer intelligent football." that was just a tiny bit condescending, no? :) didn't think i was being out of line, though. moving on...

I don't think I did. My point was that he's blunting the impact of his financial contribution with his trigger-happy approach to hiring and firing coaches, as well as refusing to stay out of team affairs.

If a man succeeds in his aim of breeding the ultimate racehorse, he is still to blame when said horse doesn't win as many grand nationals as it might, due to it's breeder routinely hitting it with his Land Rover.

How can you miss Reus and Ilkay, how and Hummels would do well on his own in defense, could leave the keeper out too.

Very much remains to be seen how we end up, really. All depends on who we buy at striker and at one of the two pivots. Ramires especially is a pretty good midfielder - he's just completely unused to playing in a pivot right now. The real issue we had against Juve especially was an inability to track runners from midfield, because neither Mikel nor Ramires are used to doing that, and the 4-2-3-1 demands it.

Given that his one excuse for not delivering a plethora of honours to Liverpool was that he didn't have money, I expect Chelsea to evolve from mere sports team to a world-eating demi-god.

"We don't need to give away stupid plastic flags to our fans to wave, our supporters are always there with their hearts and that is all we need. Its the passion of the fans that helps us to win matches, not flags. Chelsea fans lack passion." -Benitez

Anyway we were looking at Ilkay for ages and decided not to move which is really infuriating, we are turning out to be Arsene, oh we could have had Ronaldo Messi before anyone knew them but we didnt joke on you.

I dont think he is a 2 man midfield player without the Am atleast tracking back and covering if not doing tackles and good positionally.

He, in theory, wasn't a wide player last year either. If Ramires is anything, it's adaptable.

If you have an off moment out wide you are not costing the team, in the middle every off moment is a good opportunity for the opposition, trust us we know we play a 38 year old Giggs there.

Well, there is no one else left right?

btw, I'm still thinking (conspiracy theory alert!) that we're about to find out that Di Mattao (sp?) had too much involvement in the Clattenburg thing, and that Chelsea is doing some preemptive damage control.

I know. That's why his bitching was so hilarious. That hilarity was in turn, only matched by Liverpool fans who tried to back it up by referencing his net spend, which was actually also above everyone but Chelsea's IIRC.

Another interesting factor they raised was salary, which actually was substantially lower for Liverpool compared to us. However, they were closer to us in that respect than we were to Chelsea, yet we were still able to win the league.

Benitez is going to be a decent interim for Chelsea, as long as Terry doesn't take command of team selections et al

Benitez might be rubbish at the transfer market and poor at man-management but he will get them defensively organized and a team with Mata, Hazard and Oscar will score goals.

This is my fear if I'm honets. Despite the Champions League, his tenure at Liverpool eventually deteriorated into hilarity. This continued with his "priest on a mountain of sugar" shennanigans and talking his way out of his job at Inter.

He may ruin this legacy by achieving something with Chelsea.

Oh shit....just thought of something.... wasn't he the last person to get anything good out of Torres?

Their relationship strained, nobody can re discover Torres but himself, he has lost a yard of pace and is not willing to adapt. He still is one of my bigger got away regret.
