He can cut out crosses, but when a quick guy is facing him with a bit of space he is in trouble.

Playing very well now. As the commentator stated, he's gotten better as the match has gone on..

Yea, announcer has been very complimentary to Gooch.

    Negative or realistic?

It's what I do for a living. Isn't gonna change here. Just fits in less here...that's all.

Always easier and more fun to live the fantasy.

And Zenit equalize, after Danny did everything to stop them from equalizing.

Damn, wish they hadn't scored. Would have been one of the misses of the year.

    Oh well.

Gooch just manhandled Hulk there.

Commentator once again says Gooch has had an excellent game in the heart of the defense. From what I've been reading, the general consensus from Malaga and other fans watching the game have been overwhelmingly complimentary of the big man.

It's amazing how quick refs are to whistle offensive players for the scantiest of infraction in the box. Such a cop-out.

He improved as the game went on.

Very good cutting out crosses, making tackles in the box, got torched a couple times and keeper made saves.

If he goes back to the bench and doesn't play regularly I don't know how he is gonna make it back for the US.

This ref was extremely quick on the whistle in general.

I thought Gooch did ok, and in spite of Malaga being under-strength, this was a very high level game. Failing to win it is a major disappointment for Zenit. Hopefully, Sacha and Co can take advantage later today.

Pleasantly surprised! Would it be overly nitpicky of me to complain about Gooch's clearance on the second goal :p

TBF Dani is the guy who torched Gooch twice with quick feet. Nothing to be ashamed of, but after that long lay off and the Hex coming I'm being extra critical.

    Gooch needs games.

You are not wrong, tho (although to be fair, most big defender's main problem, if they have a problem, is quick guys coming at them with space.) But that is Gooch's main weakness. He does not have the quickest of feet.

It was of course never a strong point, it just seems that it has gotten worse.

Games...just don't think he is gonna get enough of them.

Signs of promise here. Gooch played well except for his clearance that went directly to a zenit player for their second goal. I was not expecting him to do so well. Good stuff hopefully he can build on this performance and string together a few strong games in a row.

You know, I thought that too but it did deflect to the goal scorer, it could have gone the other way. I thought he looked OK, but I am a fan. I prefer him to Goodson and he made Hulk look like a boy.
