Chelsea sack Roberto Di Matteo after Champions League defeat
Manager Roberto Di Matteo has parted company with Chelsea, the club has announced.

The word, according to the little woman who doesn't really follow football but caught the TV report, is it's gonna be either Benitez  or someone called Pepsi Guatamala. That last one sounds like he knows what he's doing so I say, let's go for him :)

This is probably the most premature sacking yet.

He's simply had a bad series of games, and unless he has lost the dressing room (we haven't heard any indications suggesting this), then there's no reason to have sacked him. Abramovich should have given him time to weather the storm and right the ship. My feelings are that a) he was just being used as a temporary stop-gap before they got a hold of a more "prestigious" manager, and b) it's not only the loss, but the fact that he didn't start Abramovich's pet Fernando Torres that may have compounded to his already existing woes. Imo, (and of course this is sheer speculation) RDM was clearly intent on making a statement last night, and by doing so undermined Abramovich's authority. The fact that his tactics blew up in his face made the decisions of the higher ups all the more easier. I called it unfortunately, though I didn't think it would happen after this game, but possibly after the Man City one. It's an unfortunate move by the club, and one that could not have been executed with the most careful consideration. This isn't how you treat someone who delivered an unprecedented Champions League and FA Cup double for the club. Oh, well, the thought of Rafa Benitez driving our club towards middle-table obscurity is a frightening possibility. Hopefully, it ends up being Guardiola.

Or possibly the other fella TLW mentioned ;)

Anyway, yeah, you're right. Very premature IMO. This year was ALWAYS going to be a transitional one and with stalwarts like Drogs gone and both JT and Frank unavailable, (apparently:confused:), for game after game, the fact we've dropped down the pecking order isn't THAT much of a surprise.

You gotta say one thing though, supporting the chels, it ain't boring, is it! :)

It rather reminds me of that soap opera TLW watches, 'Eastenders', where the drama comes mainly from the fact it's a fecking catastrophe followed by an unmitigated disaster with the odd bright spot in between coz otherwise, it would get a bit boring :D

So like I usually do when I start up my computer is to check some footy news and come to know that Robbie is sacked. That escalated quickly...

I hope everyone realizes this would be a huge gamble. Never managed outside of Spain. It's not a given he will adapt well to another league and/or another style of playing.

Benitez is probably the safest short-term stopgap.

I don't know about Benitez but I agree that Pepsi Guatemala, as he will remain for me until something happens to change my opinion, (i.e. wins the league, FAC, LC and CL in the same season;)), is a gamble, I'm not sure what the thinking is behind it but, tbh, I tend to think that thinking and the chels don't go together that well these days :(

Having said that, (and I've said this before many times on here), I'll still be here after the new manager, (whoever it is), the current players and even Abramovich, are LONG gone.

Well, I've got a few worse than that but, tbh, I just don't see what someone new is going to do that's THAT different from what Robbie will do in the short term and if it's the long term what's the point of the sacking NOW?!!!! Bottom line is, (and I said this before he was given the job), who is there that can GUARANTEE better results.

Mid you, there is one fella that knows the league well and gets the fellas up for the battle. I think we all know who I'm talking about, don't we?! ;)

    Wow. Shocked and disappointed.

Sacking any manager in these circumstances would be ridiculous, but after what RDM accomplished last season...

Really struggling to wrap my head around this, tbh. Makes it seem like the club wasn't really happy with appointing RDM this summer and were just waiting to pull the trigger.

Edit: I really, really hope this isn't a "bring in Benitez to get the best out of Torres" scenario.

Unbelievable. Its not April is it?

Who would have thought Sparky would still be with a job and Di Matteo out of one by the end of this week? I know its a bit shocking seeing a team with so much attacking talent and massive investments more than likely out of the CL in the group stages after winning in it, but surely Di Matteo was going to get a full season? Nope. This type of sacking means that someone has been lined up.

I hope to god that's not the case. I hope Roman isn't embarrassed for wasting more of his money on another love toy, only to be disappointed. Even if it helps Torres regain form, I couldn't stand having that fat lard faced prick as Chelsea manager.

I get the feeling the club didn't want RDM but had to give him a fair shake when he won CL and FA Cup.

It's like Roman's taking advice from Moratti and Zamparini on how to handle managers. And now we have the possibility of ending up with Rafadyce.

I know Roman's the owner, but honestly he acts like that guy who rage quits in FIFA when he gets a bad run of results.
