I wonder if we could trade our first round pick for an experienced veteran #8 CM like we traded our pick in 2011 for Lenhart (huge win for us). I wonder if Seattle would trade us Andy Rose or Brad Evans for our pick.

So there is a waiver draft tomorrow? Any news on who will be released?

I'm no expert on roster rules so I could be wrong, but I don't think there is one. If I read the roster rules right, players can only be waived for the waiver draft during the regular season.

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/2012-mls-roster-rules

See section (H). Reentry draft should be coming up soon after the MLS Cup, though.

I think that there is no cutting of players or waiving or any of that until after the F#$%ing Cup Final. Once the filth get their scummy cup coronation, again, then we'll have the waiving and re-entry draft deal. That's the way it happened last year, right?

Besides, MLS wouldn't want play movement speculation to interfere with the filth's march to another trophy. I'm so disgusted I might actually puke.

How about that Erik Friberg guy that Seattle had last year and then dumped inexplicably... he was a pretty solid CM from what I recall. Not spectacular but definitely reliable.

as a pure holding mid #6 role, IMO Sam is too slow. remember, the 2011 season?

Sadly yes, I remember to 2011 season.

Did Sam seem too slow this season? I bet not. '11 was an awful year. We changed the lineup too much. We played guys out of position too much. We played long-ball too much. We made terrible, and often no, use of subs. Our sins were legion.

And I think that contributed to our overall suck.

But in '12 we rocked. Sam more than held his own in '12. Therefore, I am satisfied that Sam is good enough. I am less convinced that Baca is good enough. He ran down toward the end of the season. So I think that we need to either acquire another, better a-mid, or we need to shore up our outside middies and resign Dawkins. Oh wait, now we look like the same club from '12.

Were it my call, I'd find another killer central defender to pair with Bernardez. Then I'd find a quality a-mid. I wouldn't resign Dawkins, and instead I'd get Jaime Alas or someone of that caliber. That is, I want a 25 or 26 year old Chavez or Huckerby type, and I'd pay the ticket necessary to get such a player.

Then we could play either Chavez and Shea or Chavez and the NewGuy at the outside mid spots, the NewAMidDude at a-mid, and keep Croninja at d-mid. Then we bring Baca on as a late sub as often as we can, so that he continues to develop and can re-take the a-mid spot when our star a-mid goes back to wherever he came from or a top club in Europe or whatever.

But that's just me. Your mileage may vary.

I think an explosive defender or defensive mid should definitely be in Frank & John's plans.

Sam did not help the back four vs LAG (e.g., Keene who would drop deep).

IMO Ike will need a better defensive mid fielder in front of him, where Ike excels on headers into the box & applying high pressure defense at the midfield area.

We need to Bang as much as possible. I always liked the Claudio Gentile/Pietro Vierchowod and Paolo Maldini types. Wonder if there are any players like them still around?

BTW, whatever happened to that EPL defender who was on trial?

judging by what the millwall boards said about him, it's a good thing we did not sign him

Well, clearly I was wrong. Thanks for the link Falvo, I am in your debt.

And no one on that list jumps out at me, but it's possible that there's a player or two there that I either haven't seen or don't know by name.

If we are interested in getting a CAM why not try for Benny Feilhaber or Freddy Adu if we can get them for the right price? I believe this was mentioned in this or another thread. Also they are pretty much the only two players in the US pool that could be considered close to a true CAM. Here are some highlights of Adu creating chances for Philly last year that some of our forwards might have put more of them away: .
I can understand the hesitancy of getting Adu since he has question marks about his work rate and attitude, but if Yallop thinks he has the right mindset, why not give it a try? if he sucks or ruins the team chemistry, then bench/trade/cut him.

I would love Feilhaber, I have always liked him with the Nats, although he seems to do better as a sub for them. He can also play CAM or if Dawkins leaves he can take the role of cutting in from the left and taking players on, shooting, or creating. He also seems to shoot less and pass more than Dawkins which is O.K. if he is to be a playmaker. The only question about him is his defensive work rate, which might not be enough for Yallop.

It's a question both of price and fit. Would Adu or Benny fit our style better. I think that Feilhaber would be closer to what Frank wants, as Adu plays almost no defense at all. Also, it's more likely that Adu is a head case, which would not suit Frank at all.

Realistically, if those are our only "good" choices within the league, then we should look elsewhere. I'd look in Central or South America (I bet there's a fire sale on Argentinian players right now!), but that's my inclination. I'd be happy with an Estonian too. Hey, their flag is the right colors, and if they've got another Lindpere type player, I want one. It's cool by me if we find a good a-mid (or more holding mid type player) in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, South East Asia, Australia, or elsewhere. I don't really care, I just want a quality a-mid. He only needs to be a cut above for one or two seasons.

    Let's win NOW.

Adu would be the convey problem times 10.

We also don't have room for a #10 on our team... we need two-way #8's.

yeah the no defense thing is something Yallop would not tolerate at all. If we get a pretty toy i hope its Benny. He fits what we are trying to do here
