Look at the facts: do the majority of posters on this board want playoffs or the first place team to be crowned champion?

If the people on this board want playoffs, then I am sure the American soccer fan that doesn't have enough involvement to write about soccer on the internet also wants playoffs. If they didn't, why isn't MLS being drowned in requests for the playoffs to be abolished?

Also, I find first past the post to be boring. I find English soccer teams to be more talented than MLS teams. If I watch an EPL match, am I indicting the EPL system or saying that I want better quality soccer? I admit I am in the minority in that I watch the FA Cup and the Champions League with far, far more interest than the EPL because I see that the individual cup and UCL matches mean much more in their formats than an individual EPL match. I watch for the greater context not just the greater talent. Most fans just want to see the best players play each other. I can't blame them for choosing the English match of the day.

Going by how the term is thrown around here? Anyone who watches soccer outside of MLS and enjoys it. Anyone who enjoys high level soccer.

So me, apparently, although I watch a lot of MLS too. Every week and support the league.

As far as why I said it, for MLS to get a considerable boost in ratings it'll need to draw from the fans who don't watch MLS yet watch other leagues. It'd been discussed at length.

But in honesty I think Eurosnob might be the most inaccurate term thrown around here. I just have no problem admitting I love soccer period, and will watch both MLS and other leagues abroad. But someone like me isn't the issue, as I support MLS both by buying tickets to games and paying for MLS Live. I follow relatively closely.

The issue is how to get people like my friends who have only a few hours per week to watch soccer, and if they're watching two matches over a weekend, they're picking EPL/Bund/Serie A/La Liga games. It's not that they don't like MLS, it's that with time to watch only a couple games they want to ensure they're entertained by high level soccer. Those are the types MLS needs to pull in. It's not so much Bay Area fans watching SJ or Chicago area fans watching the Fire, it's how to pull in the fans outside of the markets. That's where a ratings boost will come.

That's isn't really related to what you posted though. I'm rambling.

the MLS forums on big soccer are not representative of the American soccer public. There is a lot of antagonism on this forum displayed against people in favor of the English setup or pro/rel or anything that goes against how MLS is run. Thus, less people feel comfortable taking the discussion in that direction.

if you read the espn comment sections you'll find it about 80-20 towards comments complaining that MLS is too Americanized. That may not be representative either but it shows that there is a large segment of the soccer fan base that is alienated by what MLS does.

Of course most of those commentors don't know enough to realize that what they complain is Americanized happens in soccer leagues around the globe...

    Nope.

There's probably a tiny minority of BS posters who don't watch soccer outside of MLS. Miniscule.

Most people use the term to refer to those snobs who refuse to watch MLS because of the relatively low quality. If you want to contend that the term means anything else, you're going to have to find some examples and show that they're prevalent. I bet you can't do it.

Edit: Loney explains it here https://www.bigsoccer.com/soccer/dan-loney/2009/08/06/the-eurosnob-scale/

I really don't care whether you believe/agree with my take on it. I've seen that term thrown around a ridiculous amount around here.

I bet I don't care enough about your opinion to start digging up posts.

kind of reminds me of Mitt Romney. Instead of understanding why people don't like you (In Romney's case people not voting for him and in the case of MLS why some American soccer fans don't support the league) the strategy is to insult and denigrate.

There's no such thing as a eurosnob. It's just a term used by insecure MLS supporters.

Don't be such an idiot. <--that's an insult/denigration

I don't usually use throw around the term eurosnob, but I know people who refuse to watch MLS because the quality isn't high enough. That's more or less the definition of snobbery. They don't mind classifying themselves as snobs.

I really just objected to the other poster's silly statement that the term is used for all people who recognize that MLS is a lower-quality league. That's just nonsense. MLS fans by and large understand the league's place in the world.

Technically we are all snobs when it comes to soccer one way or another.

I mean I am sure many of us have "amateur" teams playing in metro lleagues that most of us do not follow.

I do not follow any of these teams,

    http://www.mslchicago.us/

    or

    http://clasaleague.com/

so any one here in Chicago that go to FIRE games but not follow any of the teams in the links above, are technically MLSsnobs.

    I'm okay with that.

Actually, I do occasionally attend the lowest-level spectator soccer available in my town (Big 12 women's soccer), but yeah, the quality is looooow.

Look, another insecure MLS fanboy getting defensive, lol.

This is common. MLS fans are always right, everyone else is wrong.

I seriously don't care what you think I understand or don't.

The fact I've been called a Eurosnob around here a number of times yet watch MLS and am about to watch an MLS game proves your theory wrong, buddy.

My Euro friends(in Europe) who watch basketball(ACB/Serie A/Balkan leagues) don't refer to people who only watch the NBA as NBAsnobs. It is completely an issue of insecurity.

No, I laughed at your "americanizing" ideas because this league started out doing just that. It bombed quite badly. The Single Table idea is just not smart for the American sporting landscape.

This is about as lame duck of an issue as you can get. I haven't heard complaints about this, at all, on any scale other than your post. What, Italy bombs the field with phosphorous flares but a little glitter paper is a no go here ?

So a way to get people to latch onto the game, is to completely disrupt the actual game ? American sports were already built this way, soccer isn't.

If you can't hold your piss for 45-55 minutes at a time ... you've got bigger problems.

Correct, and I'm willing to bet that whomever it is that steps up to purchase won't have the MLS clubs as their top priority in purchasing AEG ... in fact, I'm willing to bet the whole thing isn't sold as a lump sum anyway.

You're forgetting some key facts. 3 Supporter's Shields, a US Open Cup Title, and another Open Cup Final. They're also 7-5-3 overall in International competitions.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest Detroit is a logical place for an MLS franchise to relocate at this point in time.

ManBearPig FC .... the T-Shirts would sell like hotcakes.

Well, except for the part where you're wrong on "no one is watching." If only there were a ratings thread on this place ..... if only.

Actually, guy, that little statement there only shows that you, in fact, don't understand what you're being called and how those that use the term on here mean it.[/quote]

I would refer to anyone that believes that the structure of the NBA is the sole reason for it being better than the Estonian First Division as an NBAsnob.
