    RELEASE THE DOM!

    ...you know, to another team, for something in return...

    I'm afraid that the league won't offer much for Dom, but yeah. Time to ship him if he's gonna pull this stuff. He's not going to start week-in, week-out for any decent team in this league.

    I'm wondering if Oduro might have a long, slow wind-out to his career; everyone's always looking for speed, and he's not going to be slow anytime soon. It's not hard to imagine the next 5-7 years of his career playing out the string as Jeff Cunningham lite (faster/bad finisher version).

    It's sad that he'd rather move to a team where he's an automatic starter rather than be on a competitive team. Besides, he had a stretch of the season with a huge goal drought. He lost the starting job because of a lack of performance. That's on him.

    He should stay and fight for the spot.

    Hence why you rotate. You can't start a guy every game....except when 700 fans travel to Cbus, no don't start him then....and then not start him after you bring in someone else and expect him to be happy.

    Maybe we can trade him for Calen Carr.

    I'd be happy if we could get a serviceable fullback for him. He's got to be worth that at least. Don't think we would get as good a value for him if we looked for any thing near a straight attacking swap. Just somebody to challenge/push Sega or to compete for the starting right fullback (unlike some, I'm not huge on Gargan, though, he is an improvement over Jalil)

    Everyone wants to start but Oduro is not enough of a consistent scorer to start, so if he thinks he can start for someone else I hope the fire work out a deal.

    Well to be fair to Dom, he didn't say he wants out, just that he wanted to play and if they don't want him he will be happy to move but he'd rather stay but he wants to play so if he has to play somewhere else then he has to go unless there's a spot for him still here which he's going to continue to work hard to earn that spot or move on.

    I don't blame him - every player should desire to start. If that's not what they want, they shouldn't be a pro.

    OK. He can start...but then we should use 2 forwards instead of 2 CDMs...and I guess what we'd lose in defense we'd make up by forcing teams to stay back further...

    Because right now I'm sure we have attacking players sitting on the bench knowing in the back of their minds that if we go down a goal or two, they'll get their chance...and I don't think that's a healthy team mentality to have...

    This.

    Where is going to go where he can start AND have a shot at winning as trophy? IF we play our cards right in the off season we have serious potential to win silverware in 2013. Even if he is an often-used sub on a trophy winning team, not only will he then have actually won something in his career but that will also increase his market value and then he can go find another place where he can start.

    Until then, he should knuckle down and make himself into a player who can make a legitimate case to be a starter regardless.

    He could, but I don't see any scenario where he wins that fight. Our play is better with Mackie up top, and I don't think they could work together. They represent two totally different styles.

    Then he should spend the next two months learning to cross the ball accurately so he could be used in a new way. Having trouble finding a job? Learn some new, marketable skills.

    With the career mobility he's already had he should figure out that he's not yet (if ever) a key player for a team.

    Chicagoans don't run from a challenge. It's part of the city's DNA. When the city burned down people immediately saw it as an opportunity to reinvent the city. I expect the players on the club (and FO, and fans) to accept challenges in this same way.

    It's the Walter Payton school of thought. You put a 250 pound linebacker in front of me? That's OK because he sure as hell looks a lot smaller than the mountain I ran over all summer long. No problem. I'll run him over and the safety behind him as well just for good measure.

    Oduro has a chance to see this as a golden opportunity to reinvent himself, not as a burden.

    We should have sold him to some Scandinavian team last year, I knew his value was never going to be higher than last season.

    oh well, too late for that.

    So you all have a problem with a guy who says he is not satisfied riding the pine? Sherjill was brought in to start, Dom is not stupid, he knows that. What I read was that he wants to know that he can battle for the starting spot. Can he? If Sherjill knocks in a goal at a slower pace then Dom did in 2011, does anyone think he would be displaced? Unless Sherjill picks up a knock he will be the starter even if he scores less then Dom did, I think that's clear. Some guys are content as super subs, others are not.

    2012 goals per 90 minutes:

    Oduro = .30
    MacDonald = .35

    Of course, it must be kept in mind that Oduro had been with the team for almost a year before this season whereas MacDaddy has been with us since just late July. OTOH, MacDaddy got to play most of his games with Rolfe in the squad whereas Oduro did not so there you go.

    Stop with the statistics! Chris hates statistics. Are you trying to piss him off? Of course I'm only joking as I have nothing of substance to contribute to the discussion at the moment...

    Pretty close.

    Let's say that was reversed though, does anyone think Oduro could displace MacDonald? I don't think so, I assume neither does Dom. MacDonald can hold up the ball in a way Dom will never be able to, and unless Rolfe slides into midfield and we move to a 2 forward lineup Dom is the odd man out. He was stating the obvious with his qualms.

    At the risk of further rendering Chris M. irreversably irate, MacDaddy had a much higher assists/90 minutes rate than Oduro.

    The fact is that, as you said, the two of them play the lone striker position completely differently. Obviously, having a forward who can hold the ball and dish it off to either Nyarko, Rolfe or whoever should be playing in place of El Flaccid should theoretically make our entire offense more dangerous. That said, if we're facing a slow back line that is vulnerable to speed, who is to say Oduro shouldn't start that game? That's why you need a system that is strategically and tactically flexible.

    We all know that Frankie doesn't change his lineup regardless of who we are playing or how they play.

    We got rid of Pappa, Robayo, Puppo and Grazzini during the season and Pappa was the only one who probably would have started had he stayed. Robayo in particular was jettisoned after he proved a total bust. We brought in Arne right before the season to add depth despite already having Gibbs (thank heavens!). A change I did not agree with was effectively crapcanning Gargan by moving Anibaba to right back as soon as Arne began starting. That move cost us either first or second place. We brought in Alex early in the season, we brought in Rolfe and MacDonald, we brought in El Flaccid (oh well, can't win 'em all). That's as lot of change.

    While our formation and tactics didn't change, our line-ups sure did. Tornaghi for Johnson early in was forced on us, we had to wait for Arne after Gibbs got hurt and we had to wait for Rolfe after he hurt himself getting off the plane (I kid!) but everything else was pretty much under the Fire's control.
