AZ visited FC Groningen 23 times before in the Eredivisie and won 11 times, drew 4 and lost 8. Last season AZ beat FC Groningen away with 3-0. AZ only won 1 of the last 7 matches, against Vitesse. No news yet about injuries, apart from Martens, who is out for some time to come.
Who calls them "The Pride of the North"? My impression as an outsider has been that Heerenveen is the bigger and better club in the region. At least, the more successful club since I've been aware of the two and their rivalry.
These two clubs are rivals and both claim to be the owners of that title. You do beat Freislander to comment on this claim And for both the results against each other are the marker for this "title". But Frisians, as has been proven this week in the States, manage to grab the press head lines better than "Grunnigers" and cause a stirr internationally.
Even the "Green Army" (ha) fans watch 'veen on the sly to see good footie! Groningen likes 'veen so much they even flew the Fryslan flag at the Martinitoren. That's how much they love Fryslan!
That is not trouble for a Frisian. That is a good days work! Frisians have always had too much sjem for one piece of toast!
I can say that Doutzen Kroes has alot of sjem I want to spread on my toasts. But that's common for Frisian women. Another Frisian woman who set the world on fire with some underwear (or less) is a woman in fame only matched by Cleopatra or the Mona Lisa. If I give her name you will say..Ohh By the way ( to distract your Frisian horny mind somehow) a Belgian soccerfriend in the Dutch forum asked what the English word is for "Kaatsen". You as a man in both worlds must be able to shine a light on that! I suggested bouncing.
They just showed a replay of when Jozy harassed the keeper into a turnover, then sprinted back onside but Beerens took the shot instead of passing (it was saved) Jozy also had a good giveand go with Beerens who crossed it in but the header was saved
Big save from Alvarado. Zeefuik (#36) seems quite overweight, but picked out a great through ball for a Groningen chance.
Altidore has been much less involved as the half has worn on. Probably 10 minutes now and saw the ball once.
