that is inexcusable then. absolutely inexcusable. there is no rational thought to encompass that philosophy.

Keep in mind that JK got Besler in a camp. Maybe, Besler didn't show enough to warrant another call up.

Well he said Omar Gonzalez would of gotten called up but LA are still in the playoffs, I expect Gonzilla to be with the USMNT when the hex starts in February.

He mentioned him in a recent interview, though - he's still on the radar.

Yeah I'm sure he is. It's just something to consider.

Honestly, I think JK thinks these are his guys for now(besides Gonzo..who only has hex games to get thrown into now).

I think you are right, and that's frightening. The current options aren't good enough. Problem is that there just may not be any better options waiting to be called . . .

Sadly, I think you're right as well. And even though Klinsmann has mentioned Gonzalez, I see no reason to think he's ahead of Bocanegra, Cameron or Goodson in the his perception.

I can only see Gonzo getting called in and maybe getting some minutes at end of games. Anyone else will have to stand out in gold cup to possibly get a chance.

    Barring injury of course.

If Gonzo does a better job than Boca or Goodson, he will replace them.

Well he's seen various MLS CB's and hasn't called them up again. So basically there's only Gooch and Gonzalez to shake up the roster. However, I think Gonzalez will eventually rise to the top and that Klinsmann may take Gooch to the WC because of his unique physicality. So I expect either Boca or Goodson to be forced out.

I know Gonzo is the hot favorite right now, but we are so dire we need more than one option besides him to step up. The wheels are falling off Goodson and Boca if they havent already, and we already know they have with Onyewu. We need as many as THREE new central defenders to step up and be integrated in the process.

Boca at least has the defense of his captain and leadership qualities, but everyone who watched the Guatemala game saw the same thing i did. Thats not gonna cut it in the hex.

And who here is going to rank Clarence Goodson above Besler, John, or Okugo........ I dont think there is one such brave soul that exists. If you dont agree with me on Boca u sure as hell at least agree with me on Goodson.

I think its fair to say he is behind Boca and Cameron, but that he stands the chance of beating out Goodson for the third spot, especially considering Goodson's performance in Russia.

Bring back Onyewu if he plays consistently in La Liga. Onyewu/Cameron @ CB.

Besler is out of contract, will be interesting if he re-signs with KC or if he gets some interest from Europe. My guess is since he didn't sign an extension before or during this season, he'll at least explore whatever Euro options he has, same as George John.

John definitely. He's tried to go to Europe twice before, and FCD replaced him a year ago with Hedges.

We'll have to see about Besler.

And it wouldn't shock me if Gonzo is on another training stint/trial in Europe this winter as well.

DeMerit is only 32 years old. He's not 38. He's been playing at a very high level in MLS, is hugely experienced, and is a great leader. I would not be stunned to see Jay back in the mix.

I know on these boards we're constantly looking for the "next big thing," but we do have veterans available like Jay, Chad Marshall, and Onyewu available to us as well. If Gooch can start getting regular playing time for Malaga, I have no doubt Klinsmann will take another look at him.

If I remember correctly, my prediction in some thread right after the 2010 World Cup was Onyewu + either Ream or Cameron as our 2014 starting CBs.

(In January this year, I even chose Onyewu with my 1st Round pick of the 2012 BigSoccer Draft game.)

Obviously, Onyewu's subsequent second injury and stuttering return have put a serious doubt on Gooch's prospects. And Ream has underwhelmed after a bright start with Bolton.

Cameron + Gonzo is my current hope/projection for 2014.

    Jones is my backup plan.

If Gonzo continues to play like this he wont be in MLS for very much longer. He has been outstanding since coming back from injury.

He talked about wanting to go on loan or a permanent move to Europe in January a few weeks ago in the Extratime Radio podcast but he doesn't want to miss Camp Strudel. If a team in a top 4 league really wants him I could see JK letting Omar skip Camp Strudel.

I wonder who is the fourth option for JK? Is it Edu?

yep he wants to elevate his game. Really good chance he ends up our othe CB. he has looked so good in MLS this year since coming back. Moves forward. strong in defense. great positioning. just totally makes LA unbeatable.

Surprised no one has mentioned Boca's Hamstring tear and 6 weeks out. Maybe this will be wake-up call to look at further options for CB. Still believe right now only Gonzo has a chance of getting into selection for Hex games. Maybe Seb Hines, but I believe he needs to file a switch with FIFA.

Arena has already mentioned about no more short loans/training in Europe over winter. So if Omar is in Europe this winter, it will likely be a full transfer.

Didn't mean he wouldn't but hoping this injury to aged player would be wake-up call to look at 1 or 2 more guys who might be better then current back-up(s) (Specifically Goodson)
