Make the Cup final? I think we'll all be gutted if we don't WIN the Cup Final. This team has given us the most dangerous thing in the world: HOPE. 2 weeks ago I'd have been OK crashing out. Not anymore.
When we lift #4 in a few weeks... We will all greedily sit back and say that this SHOULD have been a 4 peat...
Not even close... on so many levels but there is no denying whom the superior club has been over the last 4 seasons. Lost Final in Pk's Lost in Conference Final (we picked the worst game to have our worst game) Won it all On the verge...
I beg you all to stop with the "we're in the final already" talk. It would be no surprise to me to see Seattle put 2 in on us in the first half and have the momentum going into the second half. A bad bounce here, a bad bounce there, and we'll all be looking like idiots who counted their chickens waaaaay too early. If anyone mentions anything about a fourth star, you're getting redded. x 50%
No kidding. I haven’t even mentioned the thing I really want to because despite being completely devoid of any superstition in every single other aspect of my life I still have this nagging belief that counting your chickens in soccer is a bad, bad idea. Then again maybe it’s just a lifetime of support for England NT and Tottenham (not to mention the first 5 years of Galaxy) where if there was a way to cock something up they would find it.
I don't know about anyone else but this has to be our mind set each and every season. Cup or bust no one remembers 2nd place. And we are LA we play to win championships not to hope to win. We should always expect to win if we don't it's a wasted season.
The key to this game is going to be to kill the first 20 minutes. If we can do that, we kill Seattle's belief, they will start pressing like crazy and before you know it they'll be a bigger hot mess than Hope Solo's personal life. If they get an early goal....watch out.....if I'm Bruce, I am telling the team, "Possess the ball, concentrate, make the easy pass for a bit, and when they start to press hard, hit on the counter." I think this might be a good game for Sarvas to start. He helps with possession and digs in well in the midfield. This sounds like blasphemy, but I would sit Magee and bring him on about minute 70.
Because of my pessimistic nature, I'm assuming we're not going to have Donovan, Buddle, and Junhi (hell... even Becks may not play)... so sitting Magee may not really be an option. I still think we can take care of business without those three guys, but it's going to take a huge effort with great commitment and teamwork.
Our bunker ball skills haven't looked good for awhile. We should just play this game as if it were 0-0.
For me, I don't care about the extra stuff. I want to see a compelling performance from this team for the remaining contest or contests. That is all.
I'm not talking about bunkering, I'm talking about making sure you have maximum concentration, and keeping the ball. Attack, but don't play the risky ball over the top in the beginning. Slow the game down a bit rather than push while the adreneline and crowd noise calm down a bit. Trying to do too much and kill the game with an early goal could backfire. You want calm, collected, smart passing and once things have settled in you go for the throat. If the pace starts out frantic, it's 50-50 who gets the first goal, and if it's Seattle, watch out.
yeah, no kidding, this is not going to be a 'kill the first 20 minutes' situation, this is going to be a go out and cut the throat with the first goal and let it bleed out quickly. there will be no hesitation going forward from the galaxy, bc we all know if there is, its going to turn out badly for us. this team does well attacking, and not defending, especially right now with a botched back line. the only way to win this game, against seattle, IN SEATTLE, is to play like you need the win, not like you have the lead.
Well, I guess we'll see what Bruce does, and in the end, one of us will be right and the other one will be wrong. Until then.....I hope we WIN.
I think Seattle fans are burn't toast.. they'll be all gung ho when the whistle blows but will be absolutely in shock and zombied by half time.. L.A. will not play bunker ball. L.A. will attack and attack and attack.. I would not be surprised to see 2 or 3 goals for us in the first half alone.. Seattle has nothing.. they are a streaky team, a team that has freddie montero who was absent last weekend. surprised not to see Johnson in the startling 11 actually... they got thumped in L.A. for a reason.. The Galaxy are much better and The Flounders know it!
I just don't know what to do with this. Oh KOMO news, could you PLEASE do your homework? I laughed: "Los Angeles Galaxy's Chad Barrett, right, and Landon Donovan celebrate Robbie Kean's goal..." Sweden, Norway...blonds...you know, it's all the same. http://www.komonews.com/sports/Sounders-again-find-themselves-in-huge-playoff-hole-179572121.html
