I agree. I though Marsch did a solid job. I think Saputo might want a more attacking brand of football. With Marsch or any Bob Bradley disciple you are going to get two defensive midfielders doing the grinding in the middle of the pitch. If that style was a little more effective (if we didn't ship goals late on in games, if we managed to eek out a couple of more draws and wins instead of losses) maybe Marsch would have been give a reprieve. Given how bad we were in the final 15 minutes of games I am not surprised that the conditioning coach got the axe. Preston Burpo's firing is definitely a result of Ricketts and his shoddy goalkeeping. It will be interesting to see which direction they go in. I just hope they don't get some European coach who knows nothing about the way MLS operates. That said, I hear Pep Guardiola is available
Their last win was in August .. so they had a poor start, and worse, a poor finish. And they allowed alot of goals easily.. When they allowed less goals, late in the season, their offense completely dried up. I thought it would be do or die next yr for Marsch. He made mistakes, for sure. Maybe they have somebody more experienced in their sights, in fact they better, because replacing managers for the sake of replacing them is the road to ruin.

Well that would certainly be in line with the feeling that seems to be persisting out there that Montreal's next coach will be Italian.

There's absolutely no plan- which is why I found the Marsch divorce so distressing. Getting a guy like Biello or De Santis to coach this team is a disaster- you're talking about getting guys with no MLS experience AND no foreign pedigree.
It's a recipe for disaster plain & simple,somebody might wanna send a memo to old joey that this isent the nasl your in the big leagues son.
I think biello is being groomed to be the "backup" coach in season 2. They will most probably get someone serious, but if anything goes wrong, biello knows the league and style of play enough that he could do the job in the interim. A truly foreign coach has almost never worked in MLS, and the only way it could for us is if the person comes in with a really humble attitude and is willing to listen to the current existing staff that has more experience. Such a coach is not easy to find.
Something else that could happen is Biello being the coach with Nesta having also a big influence on the team. Kind of an assistant head coach. That could lead to problems if they don't always see eye to eye. Maybe there just hasn't been very good ones. TFC .. none with much experience. Carver was a caretaker manager cross the pond, and Cummings was a youth coach, and so was Winter. Is there a high-profile guy that fell flat in the MLS .. there was Ruud Guillit.. but then, he's stunk wherever he's been.
Sorry to barge in on your thread here, but as I have just discussed this with my cousins in Montreal (they of course, are Impact fans), I thought to share something that just recently made the local news here in LA: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...rt-ways-fraser-vanney-restructuring-continues Chivas parts ways with Robin Fraser - imo he's a good coach, its just that like with your backwards Canadian brethren Toronto FC, he was a relatively sound manager who was placed within the bureaucratic clusterf**k of the front office and executives. He has a good eye for young talent, is bilingual (English/Spanish - I'm sure he could pick up French better than Marsch), and has won big trophies in MLS and CONCACAF as a player and as an assistant coach.
That to me would be the type of coach we need, I'm not sold on biello never have and never will be I leave it up to him to prove me wrong, it's time for Joey too think outside the box.
Considering Fraser was a two-time MLS Defender of the Year and played with the national team for a while, I would think if hired, he would more than see eye-to-eye with Nesta about what sort of tactical formations and strategies are needed to get shutouts; these are key issues that recent expansion sides such as yourselves desperately need sort out in order to progress into playoffs territory. Can't win games if you can't keep the ball out of your own team's net. I genuinely hope your owners, FO and staff work sh*t out over the offseason, because whether the majority of MLS fans want to admit it or not, "cosmopolitan" franchises like LA, NYC, Vancouver and Montreal are what help market this league, especially in multilingual markets such as your own beautiful city. If Montreal can get a consistent, high standard of play going, I can see the Impact becoming one of the marquee teams of the league in the not-too-distant future. I completely agree if there's one thing I know with out a doubt is we have a passionate devoted owner who loves his club and will go that extra mile to make Mtl a winning franchise which all montrealers can be proud of, and good luck v sounders .

The U-20s looked completely disorganized under his watch, and lifeless, and his choice of players was very weird too .. I can only laugh nervously

Soccerplus just had a great podcast on the whole coaching subject. Overall the consensus was no different than what we hear anywhere else, but one juicy bit of news was during the Nick Sabetti interview. News about the coaching will come out in the next few days to 2 weeks. Nick knows names/details but is keeping it for himself till he can write an exclusive. There really is a mad rush for Italians here with the Impact. I have nothing against Italy's more defensive style of soccer, but I really hope that the management isn't limiting themselves.
I think it's more a question of contacts than style of soccer (but still also a question of style). Given it's only been one year since this team has been in the big league, theres is no way guys like Di Vaio, Nesta and Ferrari would have come here without Saputo as an owner. We should feel lucky to have him. Plus Concina was raised in Toronto and played a little for the Impact and Canada's national team so he knows north america's style of soccer. I think he would be a good candidate for the job.
