Andy Dorman has re-signed with the Revs and will join the team for pre-season training in January, pending his ITC. Andy will join an already crowded midfield, with Scott Caldwell also expected to join the team as a homegrown player. What doest his mean for Feilhaber? I assume his days are numbered as Dorman, Rowe, Toja, and Caldwell all play his position. I personally like the signing as long as Andy is coming at the right price, which we won't know for a while. He should bring some leadership and professionalism to the team, and hopefully he can rediscover his form from his best days with Revs in the mid 2000s.
Like Andy when he was here, and thought he was playing great (until it was clear he was definitely playing out contract and Nicol started playing others)....but why don't I have the best feeling about this? Hope I am wrong
Actually, if you remember, his play really started to drop when he was (surprisingly) not included by Nicol in the All-Star game that year.
I'm very happy and skeptical at the same time. Dorman was a great player when he was here (and yay, BU representation again on the Revs!) but he's 30 now, struggled badly in the Championship and wasn't a standout in League Two. I'm hoping like Crooked said, he can fill the "veteran leadership" void left by Joseph and (possibly) Reis, and maybe take on more of a holding/deep-lying role in the midfield since Simms is a weak passer. At worst, he should be able to have the spot Pat Noonan has on the Galaxy, starter for USOC/Reserve games and spot player when injuries hit.
IIRC Anday has family in the area (brother?) Word is he was one of the trialists this Fall I'm glad he's back
I honestly haven't seen him play in years, so I'm totally indifferent. It's impossible for me to know how he will pan out.
I can only assume that the Revs FO has done all their due diligence and made the necessary trips out to see him in first team action. Thereby gaining a much better handle on his play from anything we may have heard about. But, like you, I'm in agreement. It's impossible to know! So I out all my faith in that the FO is being paid to do a job that I certainly could not do..otherwise I'd be working for Krafty! =)
His brother also went to BU, but I seem to recall him going off to Finland to play professionally after graduation. Not sure if he's still there or not.
I like this re-signing. I really do. Andy was a solid player for us, he's gained some higher lever experience, and can bring that back here. He's a player the fans know, and creates a little bit of the illusion that the Revs want to build a tradition.
Though it could as likely enter peoples' perception that they are desperate, cheap, and lack resourcefulness. I'm excited about Andy coming back, and would love to be surprised by any poise, maturity and refined skill he could bring. Hope it works out that way. At the very least, I'm now more interested in watching the team tomorrow than I was yesterday. Kevin D.
We have a great tradition: Head Coach: Former player Strength and Conditioning Coach: Former player General Manager: Former player Color Commentator: Former player Youth Academy Coach: Former player And now we can add to the list: Current Player: Former player I'm sorry but I don't view this as building a tradition, I think it's just lazy. Building a tradition would be properly honoring former players like Ralston and Twellman when they stepped away from the team, it could be building a "ring of honor" or some other enshrinement for former Revs, etc. The Krafts and Revs FO as a whole have shown little to no interest in building and preserving the tradition of this organization.
I've always liked Andy and was sad to see him leave. I too believe it was Nicol who got in his head in a bad way. Hopefully he comes back from his walkabout as a better Andy Dorman and really helps the team.

They had him in scrimmaging with the team in close door workouts. When did 30 get too old? That's still pretty darn close to the peak age for most players.
Loved Andy as a player when he was here, and he is a likeable guy, but this move reeks of laziness. Since he left the SPL in 2010 he couldn't get into the starting lineup for a championship club and spent last year with a league two side. I wonder if another midfielder is really what this team needs. If he plays like he did in 2007, when he filled the attacking CM role, sneaking into the open spaces vacated by defenders that were busy marking Twellman and Noonan, then he could prove useful. If the contract is reasonable and a current mid or two (*cough* Feilhaber *cough*) are on the way out, it makes more sense. Just wonder if the club is 'settling' for a known commodity instead of aiming higher.
If this were not a former player, it would look to be a poor signing. Personally I don't think that changes because he is a former player. He played for a crappy team in the SPL and then a League 2 team, where he wasn't all that outstanding. One could argue he's been struggling against worse competition than he'll face in MLS. Unless this is for league minimum, I don't like it, and it does look lazy.
People tend to overvalue MLS relative to the Championship/SPL/other UK lower mid level leagues. Players from the Championship for example have done fairly well in MLS (Huckerby and Rodgers come to mind). I feel like these leagues translate better to MLS more often than some of the South and Central American leagues where players are usually booms or busts. The fact that he was playing in the SPL and later the Championship and League 2 doesn't really scare me. What is cause for concern is that he hasn't been playing much recently, so fitness and health could be an issue.
I've seen the team playing in full A squad MLS Regular season games this year and wasn't impressed very often. So, I hope those scrimmages weren't against a high school team or some local college squad! I would have been happier knowing they saw him in Championship play, if indeed he got into a few games there! Oh, well... Probably as simple as the head coach thinking Dorman's a good player who was available to them, so he signed him. That said, why do I have visions of JMM's 2nd stint with the Revs? Andy was a good player the first time around, for some reason, this makes me nervous.
