Pandy Flapjack mentioned this and I had to make a thread. Capello has got to hate playing against us. That's the second game that the U.S. have equalized against him, and equalized with a bit of luck too.

Volley was well taken, and might have gone in if given the chance, but it got a deflection.

yeah the deflection is what did it. but hey that happens sometimes.

11 shots in this game for us. more than I expected from us.

According to my quick research Russia has not given up 2 goals to any team since Oct of 2010 against Ireland - and that was on the road

I think the deflection brought it to the keeper. Without the deflection it's a clean goal. That was my impression anyway.

At least Capello has an even record against USA........unlike other euro geniuses like Hiddink.

no luck at all involved- it was a very even game. I watched with non-Yanks and the consensus here was that the USA was the better team.

How in the world were we seen as the better team? Disjointed in defense and Howard saved our butts numerous times. Granted we had decent offensive play at times, but were way too prone to just giving the ball away under little-to-no pressure.
Fabio's wry smile after the second goal captured briefly by the cameras said it all. He had subbed half his team by then, was playing a third string keeper who was not at fault on either goal, but who will, in all likelihood never suit up for Russia again.

He subbed half his team by the 94th minute and his 3rd string goal keeper wasn't at fault for either goal.
How do those 2 facts have any bearing on the game's outcome?
And we didn't play Donovan or Dempsey our 2 best field players, so what.

Please explain how this is in anyway connected to the thread's title on Fabio?
Further, I beg to ask if half the players on any given side are not responsible for what occurs while they're on the field, then who is ? And doesn't the coach bear some/the responsibility for putting them in the match?

The 3 hour conference call I was on was so tedious and useless I actually had that turned down so I could listen to those twerps.

Biggest error of the match there...the players got nothing on me.

Your post was disparaging the US play then you mention 2 things that had nothing to do with the US play now you post something about it being Fabio's fault and if I remember correctly your 2 points still have nothing to do with it being Fabio's fault. You've got me running around in circles. I'm confused.

    The thread is
"Fabio just can't get a break against the Yanks"
I'm commenting on Fabio's "hard luck," that's all.

After Diskerud's shot tied the match, the look on Fabio's face was a "Fu&k me" one if I ever saw one.

I'm not disparaging the US...we clearly made mistakes, on both goals conceded, we were lucky to come away with a tie...good enough to be lucky, ok?

I don't get why people keep saying we were lucky to come away with a draw.

We created so many more opportunities than Russia. Our goals were in the run of play, not gifted to us by huge mental errors.

    We looked shaky but proficient.

Any country not named Brazil or Argentina, and comes from outside of Europe, is always luck to get a draw there.

Don't u know how things work over there. Then consider that we are hated yanks, and politics does have a lot to do with it over there, even it doesn't matter all that much here...

    ...and we were lucky.

Better than the old...look at the cute(patronizing) Americans trying to play soccer. Oh how sweet! Look how they run around and kick! My word type thing after a loss.

Reading these boards and some sports writers takes would have you believe that we were embarrassed all game and got lucky. Maybe those people turned the TV off after the first 25 minutes and wrote their articles? I dunno they had a cheap give away goal and a PK. We had 2 high quality strikes....1 being world class. If anything you could argue the opposite.

This is this Barcelona mentality that everyone seems to have these days. Possession % is all that matters and the team with most somehow "deserves" the win. Chelsea with their Champion's League trophy would disagree.

When you play away from home against one of the best teams in the world....you play defensively and hang on for the first 30 minutes. There will always be an onslaught. After that you start to open up and get more possession. I swear some people have never watched a soccer game before.

Do we have problems? Sure. Defensively? Absolutely. But we played a solid away game and scored twice in their house. No one in Europe has done that in a long long time.

Russia 2-3 Argentina on August 12, 2009. Russia had 16 home games in between the Argentina and USA games.
