It'll keep some of the haters quiet, as long as he actually gives them game time. I'm excited to see what the young uns can do on a different stage. ;)

Thats a big 'if' given the names in the rest of the squad. Do you think they are the right selections from a team development persective? Or do you think they are aimed at placating the naysayers?

I'm guessing he at least wants to get them into a training camp to see what they can do in person. I'm sure he's going to start with most of the tried & tested ie The Schwarz and Valeri etc, and then put in maybe 2 or 3 youngsters in the second half. I'd like him to prove me wrong, but I doubt it. ;)

Matt McKay injured his cheekbones and is out for the rest of the season (but there is only five matches remaining...). He is flying back to Australia today for early holiday.

Its a pity because he could have played against his club teammates Kim Chang-Soo or Park Jong-Woo today.

Not confident of getting a result. Just want to see inspired performances from Leckie, Babalj, Rogic, Oar, Ruka and McGowan.

It's going to be weird not seeing Jedinak.

Holy moly that's one very interesting back four. We could get pumped tonight...

    You'd have to think that's:

    Cornflakes---McGowan---Neill---Twat

Either way, so glad to see Holger Verbeek giving exciting young prospects Mark Schwarzer, Lucas Neill, Archie Thompson and Carl Valeri some gametime. Especially generous given the sprightly Neill is suspended for the next qualifying match.

His logic is probably to keep some experience out in defence and midfield rather than go all out. Spira isn't a leader and Og seems to be finished so meh. Not sure about Brosque...

I was wrong, McGowan at RB. Blech.

Is DeVere injured? You'd think this would be a good chance to try him out if not.

That is one truly uninspired starting 11. Considering some of the young guys who are now getting some decent playing time in the Netherlands and Germany you would think we could have wrangled something a little more impressive than that. Something with an eye on the development of the team leading up to the next WC and beyond. Great to see Oar with a start and Ruka, Holland and McGowan are positive selections. That back 4 is a worry. Brosque is a journeyman. Would have preferred Rogic tbh.

And that's identical to the Asian Cup Final goal. Two years and nothing's changed.

To be fair, these guys have flown in from everywhere and had only one full training session. Fantastic work by Oar and Ruka, both smart players who need the opportunity to build a relationshup. Brosque looks a dud, but he did make a decent run for the goal. Would love to see Rogic come on.

Granted, but we're still incredibly reactive and sluggish in transition. I'd much rather we were trying things and going astray than getting penned back like we were for most of that half.

Also, Holger seems utterly unwilling to play a left back at left back. We gain nothing from sticking the likes of Thwaite and Spira out there.

Hey guys a bit of an abrupt introduction but I only realised today after exchanging posts with zhuangzi that there was a BigSoccer Australia thread :alien: Being of Korean background I usually hang out on the Korean forum but I'm also keen for Aussie football and footballers. Sydney FC :devilish:

Assuming as this was an American site I didn't expect to see a fairly active Australian board so just giving a heads up on letting you guys know that I might be around here more often.

    Welcome aboard, DavDav!

    Back to grumbling:

Why is Schwarzer getting a full 90 minutes here? Is there no value in getting Matt Ryan some minutes?

Welcome aboard! Always great to get new contributors and different opinions!

Also - great work Ruka! Oar and Ruka, two positive selections and great to see they're vindicating their selections with some decent form. The future of the Roos right there. Great to see!

    Cheers mate!

The point of it being an international 'friendly' is that there are up to six substitutions. Osieck logic is to play as though it's a WCQ match. Limit your subs.

    Thanks.

Oar was always destined for bigger things. It's really interesting to see him play that CAM role. I'm so used to him playing on the left side it's ridiculous. Wouldn't be surprised if a mid table PL team snap him up in a season or two.
