No, absolutely not..... If he is sold or transfer, not matter what is the deal, he will not belong to the RB or to the MLS, period.....
I've always been a bit confused by this, because I was under the impression that he wasn't actually very popular in Mexico...
Really?? Hummmm. While I enjoy an occasional plate of bistecca carneros at my local mexican joint; I certainlly dont have my finger on the pulse of their culture. Could it be that Rafa is hated EVERY WHERE? He's pretty unlikable, so that wouldn't come as a shocker.
we were probably the weakest team that entered the playoffs and we had a good game vs DC at home but couldn't finish our chances and they had one chance and scored. We seem to be making a lot of bad decisions that cost us games. The talent is there for the most part, consistency is a problem and then maybe our guys are just not that smart.
When they start making smarter decision I'd certainly be willing to come back as a season ticket holder. Until then...
Considering they have hired a GM who knows precious little about MLS, and have hired a TD who has been sitting on a shelf in (where the hell is UEFA HQ anyway?) who knows nothing about MLS and the front-runner for coach is a mediocrity who has not been able to hack it anywhere he has been* when there are at least two (maybe three) available proven MLS quantites (Nicol, Marsh, and - I still don't buy the rumors here - Sigi) : Not getting any smarter *Seriously - not only will a foreign coach not understand the intricacies of MLS, but if he was available to come over to MLS, it's only because he wasn't good enough to get a job on the continent in the first place.
Idiotic. One of either the GM or the coach need to have MLS experience. Otherwise I just don't see it working.
Nicol came out today and praised the hiring of Roxburgh, maybe he's trying to throw his name in the hat?
Me too.. I love the team. I will still hit up most matches next season. I just wont give them a nod of approval laying out dough on seasons tiks next season. If they turn it around, i'll be back on board.
I'd be down with Stevie. It covers the euro angle Red Bull wants and the MLS experience most of us fans would prefer.
The only worries are that a) he totally blew up Philly's squad this season for seemingly no reason and b) he's apparently been fishing for an MLS job for awhile now and no team will bite, there might be a reason for that. Still would prefer him to McAlister just for the MLS experience though. edit: mixed up former MLS coaches for point a....
At some point, I remember someone saying he was the second winningest coach in MLS history. True or not, the guy clearly knows how to win. This is my favorite of the names that surfaced thus far.
How many trophy he has to show, how he is a: "Knows how to win coach"..... I think that Backe have a favorable score winning-lose per cent, but at the end, he hasn't nothing to show either....And that is why he has to go.....
I think people like Nichol because he had good success at NE despite a limited budget. He also developed players out of nowhere and he has tons of MLS experience. I think we need a disciplinarian coach of some sort who'll bring stability in the team. No more taking shit from players, bench players if they aren't busting their asses and stick to the lineups that work.
He can find players hiding under a rock. He can develop young talent. He can do everything on a nothing budget. The only thing he couldn't do is win the big one. However, that existing motivation could be an asset.
thats a good point. He might end up being our best realistic option because he has the Euro background RBNY like, but still knows the league. I just want the hire over with, since Red Bull is being secretive about the candidates
I think that's overrated to an extent. He got his squad to three different MLS championship games and it's a toss up from there as anything can happen in one game. BTW, our new Sporting Director is Scottish and Nichol is Scottish so there maybe some ground for this move. Does anyone know what the tactics Nichols use? But a coach who can develop young talent and find players would work well with our DP system where a large % of our cap is designated to DP's. Truthfully, if the new FO/coach can get rid of Marquez, Miller and maybe a bad contract or two they'll have me won over at the start.. Assuming they don't make an even dumber move of course.
Here's the best part: He changed them frequently to suit the talent available to him. Insane I know! At one point he even used a 3 man backline. Also...I'm sure he's been watching the Red Bull mess unfold and thinking "Hmmmm...now what could I do to fix this...?"
lol that's perfect. Unfortunately in Backe's case it was the opposite, he would go away from the lineups and personnel that worked. The 4-1-3-2 was working fine then he switches to a empty bucket with DM's as wingers, Dax is playing great as a DM then he puts him out wide, Cooper just comes off a 2 goal performance benches him for a out of form Le Toux, etc, etc, etc...
To be fair our "GM" is in more of the European sense of GM and not a roster manager I believe. Soler was GM and director of soccer operations and the director of soccer is the "GM" in the sense we are use to. de Bontin is replacing Heck essentially I think. As long as he can run a business, keep customers happy and knows soccer his MLS specific knowledge is not too important
Well I think the guy replacing Heck absolutely needs to know MLS and the fanbase if they want to turn the business side around. In terms of roster management what I'm saying is that either the coach or the guy that buys the coach his players (call it whatever you want) needs to have MLS experience. One of them needs to be an MLSer. To run a good club on and off the field IMO 2 of the 3 (Business op, coach, GM) need to be MLS guys.
