    I am loving this.

Left side could use work but S. Bender can cover for two players as he usually does.

Loew will never have the courage to try this but it's beautiful to fantasize about nevertheless.

We might aswell try it., half our starters are missing...

From what was suppose to be a serious friendly is now collapsing under our feet...

Ah well, at least they'll rest for the league and CL games that's coming up..

What's the reason for it not working? What is so outrageous about it in the first place? It's hardly unconventional other than the personnel changes. Is a 4-3-3 really such a great leap for some people?

I never said it couldn't work, I just think that Forever Red shouldn't just dismiss someone's statement without explaining why he thinks its incorrect.

Why didn't the original poster elaborate? To me its a pretty straightforward proposition that anyone who has followed this team or football would understand fairly simply.

And for me it's very simple that you do not understand how a team functiones. It's not FIFA 13, it's not a puzzle to include your favorite players. It's not that easy.

Now we have the situation that several starters will be missed and instead of play at least the standard formation to practise something that has a worth for all these bench players -> coming into the team playing on their position <- somebody tries to propagate a a total new team without any regular starter in a new formation just for the sake of whatever (entertainment?).

Can it work? Well yea but it's rather unlikely and after the Sweden match and against one of the biggest rivals (I know that doesn not mean much to you SM/FR) it's just the ********in wrong time. It's just stupid in my eyes.

Thought this is fairly simple to understand for anybody who's followed this team or football in the first place.

Huh? I didn't suggest a 1-1-8 did I? If you think a simple 4-3-3 is such a giant departure then maybe you don't understand how a team functions.

It's a friendly with several first teamers missing, its the ideal opportunity to experiment or give new ideas a try. Besides, what's so controversial about it? Höwedes and Hummels would be a great CB pairing, Adler has NT experience and is arguably the best GK in the league this season, Lahm would start, Jung would really be the only new element in the backline.

We don't have a "real" striker in the team so what do you suggest? Müller or Reus correct? You'd end up with something similar to a 4-3-3 to begin with. In fact, the formation is quite similar to the 4-2-3-1 to begin with! Again, NOTHING unrealistic about it.

Of course its unlikely, thats why I said its something I would like to see. And believe you me, the match means more to the press and fans than to the players and coach. This is not 1988.

    No. Ask your brother.

@FR: If it's only something you would wish then it's of course ok. It did sound more like a "if Löw doesn't do that he's a coward". My post was more directed to the players and not so much to the formation ;)

    Hey, real quick,

Can you teach me how a 4-3-3 functions and how we could best use it?

    Only if you have time,

    thanx

I never expected to see this, its just something I think would be interesting to see and benefit the team and players.

I think all these players are calling time out because they don't want to risk getting injured.

Yeah... the only legit injuries on that list are Khedira and Badstuber. Everyone else is taking a nice break so they can stay fit for their clubs' upcoming diffucult schedules.

Contrary to what we've seen in some of the recent matches after the Euro, Jogi has stated today that he doesn't see Podolski as a CF and will only use him there in cases of absolute emergency. He regards his ideal positions to be on the left wing and as a supporting striker behind the CF. Apparently, this means that we'll see Reus leading the line instead of Klose after all.

The rumored line up for this game:

Neuer - Höwedes, Hummels, Mertesacker, Lahm - L. Bender, Gündogan - Müller, Götze, Podolski - Reus

Adler is said to get some minutes in the 2nd half or maybe the full 2nd half. I could also see Schürrle instead of Podolski, but there's been no mention of him from what I've read.

Reus at CF continues to be bandied about, yet Loew never seems to want to try this option out. I hope he does, but I'm not holding my breath. If I had to guess at what Jogi will do, it would be this:

    ----------------------Neuer----------------------
    Hoewedes---Mertesacker---Hummels----Lahm
    -------------Guendogan---Bender---------------
    Mueller-----------Goetze------------------Reus
    -------------------Podolski-------------------------

I don't want that to be the line-up, but this is Jogi Loew we are talking about here. He stated prior to the game that there will be no experimenting here because he doesn't want the NT to come under more criticism.

Well, what do you know, he finally came around to it...

I think we'll see Reus as well just because Löw will never remove Müller from the RW.

Good to see. Hope a potential bad result doesn't discourage him from continuing with this.

Müller is the best candidate up top out of all the options we have. Müller has the best sense of positioning inside the penalty box, his first touch is good n has great off-the-ball movement. Thays crucial, n Müller can be a better aerial threat than Reus n Podolski

BTW, in the press conference, Loew said he prefers Podolski on the left or playing behind the main striker. I think thats a smokescreen

Both Mueller and Reus have great off the ball movement and goal scoring ability and are very quick. Mueller has a more limited technical ability but he is 6ft1 while Reus is 5ft11. To be honest, Aguero and Tevez are 5ft7 and they are doing well as strikers.

I don't think that Mueller has an inferior technical ability compared to Reus. His clumsy looking movements can trick the eye, but he has a pretty good technik. Mueller is also probably the player with the highest football IQ in the current matchday squad.

That's true, however, he's kind of forced to "experiment" now with all those players out of the match. He will still take the match as seriously as possible under these circumstances.
Essentially, it depends on what he sees more as an experiment - Reus as CF or Podolski as CF. Prior to the Euro he stated that Reus would be a valid option up top. Then, after the tournament, he used Podolski as a substitute for Klose in a couple of matches. Today he said that playing as a CF isn't Podolski's ideal position and that he prefers to use him on the left or behind the main striker.

He seems unsure, keeps changing his mind and even slightly contradicts himself. Though what he said about Podolski today might mean two things: It's either "CF isn't Podolski's ideal position [, but he'll have to play there anyway for this one match.]" or "CF isn't Podolski's ideal position [and therefore he''ll stay on the left, while Reus will play as the striker.]"

I guess we'll see what happens.
