There is still a second game to be played on Sunday so Gonzo would still haven't gotten called up if LA would of lost last night.
So there are 9 spots that are pretty certain. Howard starts, the 2 outside backs start. Bocanegra and Cameron most likely start. Williams, Bradley and Jones most likely start. Gomez starts. I think Kljestan will take the 10th spot. So that leaves room for one youngster or Altidore. --------------------Gomez-------------------- ------Kljestan--------Jones--------?????------ -----------Williams--------Bradley----------- --Johnson---Bocanegra---Cameron---Ch.-- --------------------Howard--------------------
I think you meant if the Galaxy has been eliminated by San Jose during the midweek. I understand Gonzo not being called in obviously. Same with Pontius. Both are still in the playoffs. Don't understand leaving off Wondo, Besler or Zusi. All were eliminated from the playoffs with plenty of time before JK announced his roster. I struggle to see any worth in calling up Agudelo for this squad.
I realize this is sarcasm, but there are still enough defensive minded players on this squad where JK can put Edu, Jones and Williams into the midfield and only go with 1 striker up top. Just because JK has called in Gyau, Mix and Gatt doesn't mean that he has any intention of starting them, let alone giving them significant minutes. These very well could just be "get familiar with the national team" call ups for these guys. Corona was consistently called in and unused until getting mop up minutes in the last qualifier.
The callup of Agudelo is hard to explain. However, I guess you can say that Klinsmann sees some raw tools there that he hopes he can harness.
sure. true. but bradley is an attacking midfielder for zeman and for schalke jones is an attacking mid...he plays the 8. so why is it inconceivable that danny williams would be our only DM along with Edu...
So we have Chandler back for the backline. 3 new mids to work it out and 1 new forward to try up on top, although Agudelo usually does much better as a false 9. I was hopping to see Wotten given a shot at the right mid. The lef mid is a bit thin again. I see either Sacha or Gyau get some time there. Since Dolo is not in, looks like Chandler will take his place rather than playing him at left and moving FJ to left mid.
agreed. thats why he is listed as a CB and he is only emergency in my view. boca, cameron, fabian and chandler. starting 4. midfield is jones, bradley and danny then gatt, altidore and sacha
I approve of this roster, aside from Agudelo, and I usually disapprove of pretty much everything Klinsmann says/does. Dempsey missing because he has a big match vs. Arsenal coming up and Tottenham are fighting for a Euro spot and will be all year. Donovan missing because he's got his own issues going on (and pulled his hammy last night so wouldn't have gone anyway I think). Dolo is a little confusing but I'm open to letting Klinsmann try to get the back-line right because it is our biggest concern. Other than that I think everything looks pretty damn good. Excited to finally see Gatt, Gyau, and Chandler (again). Excited about no Beckerman because he doesn't bring much to our midfield. Excited about Jozy being back in the fold. USA!
Dolo suffered an injury in his last Hannover game............................ Not a bad one, but enough to keep him out of this game as a precaution.
I really wouldn't call an 8 an attacking midfielder. And as far as 8s go, Jones is definitely leans more to the defensive side. I'll admit that I don't watch a ton of the Bundesliga, but for the US, with the exception of a couple of nice long distributions, he's never demonstrated an ability to add anything of any substance to the attack. I hope and pray that we see Williams as the lone DM and that neither of Jones or Edu start. Hell, with the lack of playing time that Edu has gotten the past several months, he shouldn't be anywhere near the US national team right now. But based on how Klinsmann has preferred to play road games, even in friendlies, it is far more probable that all 3 start in the midfield, leaving Bradley pretty much as the lone guy responsible for generating attack to a lone striker who will be spending most of his time chasing the ball rather than trying to get on the end of service.
I wouldn't mind seeing this at all, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Juergen use it either, considering he went with a fairly similar look against Guatemala. Only issue is that Kljestan hasn't always, or really ever, looked good on the left flank. Not for the U.S. anyways. However, he can play a fairly good final ball, which is important when we have guys like Gatt and Altidore looking to sprint into the channels and spring the offside trap. Seems a fairly good roster to me.
