Mustangs won 16-8,single point for goals. One thing have to say is they don't walk the ball up too much,it was pretty much end to end. They had a good crowd as all the benches on the one side were filled. Mustangs had some talented players especially good dribblers.
I thought the Mustangs played really well especially considering that it was their first game ever. They also are a lot of fun to watch with their wide-open attacking style and skilled ball handlers. When Armando Gamboa was still co-owner of the Soul, some people scoffed when he named Narciso Cuevas as the Soul's coach. Those people also complained that Gamboa/Cuevas would have a low budget team with mostly Hispanic players and the team wouldn't do well. Now that Gamboa and Cuevas are no longer with the Soul, the Hispanic players they brought in for the Mustangs look awfully good. Congratulations to them on a very successful opening night.
They did indeed have a good first night. They have compiled a strong and very fast team of guys that were relentless in their pursuit of the ball. This was their first game and they do have goals for future games and making it a game experience. Nice job & kudos to the Mustangs as I will attend your games. I can't wait for the Rampage vs. Mustangs games now those will be good to be at!!
I agree that the Rampage-Mustangs games should be very good. They play in Rockford on November 24 and then in Hoffman Estates on December 8.
I have to work the 24th and will not be able to go to Rockford unless something changes but I will be there December 8 for sure. That will be a good weekend - Soul opener on the 7th and then Mustangs on the 8th If you like indoor that will be a double header weekend
If you look at the two teams closely, you'll see that the Rampage are a National/Metro League all star team while the Mustangs are a CLASA/Hispano League all star collection. Pretty simple.
aek chicago, thanks for posting. Your posts are always informative and well-informed, obviously you know a lot about Chicago soccer. Please post more often.
AEK is right. It should be a great match-up in two weeks. The smaller field at Grand Sports should make it a high scoring affair.
Which should tell you something about the level of play in Chicago's ethnic amateur leagues. I know virtually every player on both the Rampage and Mustang rosters. Most on a first name basis.....although some on a "you @+#*$@#*" basis! LOL!
The Mexican pro futbol rapido league. It's the same league the Monterrey Flash were in before they moved to Rio Grande Valley. The three Mustangs field players are from Guerreros Guadalajara and I'm not sure if the goalkeeper is, too.
Not for me they're not, especially the Serb/Croat/Bosnian names. Some I even call by their nicknames. A few I call by monikers not suitable for family consumption...LOL!
I have always said that the Chicago amateur scene is by far the best in America. The leagues are stacked with fantastic players and the Mustangs/Rampage are fortunate to have an avenue to these players.
The only amateur league(s) I've seen in America at a comparable level are the ones in the NY/NJ area.
Oh yes = he is a GREAT guy will be good to see him on the field again it has been a few years since I have seen him play
In LOL...if I were a betting man I would have laid money on you also, but alas, you are NOT....in fact, I've never done a middle in a game you've played in.
Well...I have calmed down a lot in the past few years. Hahaha. Not so much. I'll hope to continue that trend of no red cards.
