Which is equivalent to Wichita. Wichita has had only 2,500. There are more teams in the PASL. MISL should at least average 6,000 for being the top indoor league. I am sure you will disagree, since it seems most people bash the PASL, yet it is still a pro league. I don't know how attendance numbers have anything to do with it being a pro league or not.
The MISL has 7 teams compared to the PASL's 19. the PASL is just like minor league hockey or baseball. And if the MISL is the "best" league, they should be able to show it. I am sure the Sockers, Dallas and Rockford and maybe Las Vegas could hang with a few teams in the MISL.
you are correct...hookers are considered professionals in their field too, so I guess, if someone is paid $1 or more to do something, they can be deemed professional. Great point...
You act like 19 teams is a great thing. Well, if they were all quality YES it would be. However 1/2 of those teams suck, on and off the field. A "pro" franchise that averages less than 500 (make that 1500) fans is a joke. No matter how you slice it, you can't put lipstick on a pig. Ask Sarah Palin.
After seeing the PASL Chicago Mustangs last night, I think they would have a pretty good chance if they played the MISL Chicago Soul. I think the best of the PASL could be competitive in the MISL. But there is a fair amount of disparity in the quality of PASL teams, and the better MISL teams would destroy the lesser PASL teams in my opinion.
Somehow Chigago recounted and it is now at 459. Cincinnati found 22 people in the parking lot for a 232 total. Arizona racked up a whopping 126 fans, and Detroit had 457 peeps in a rec center (yeah OK). Sacramento is still counting apparently.
Even though no indoor professional league has averaged "at least 6,000" fans per game since the NPSL 15 years ago. Nobody can do that with this product anymore on a league-wide basis. By definition, if it has professional teams, it's a pro league. That doesn't mean every team does everything as professionally as it should or could. And attendance numbers give you a fairly good indication of how "professional" (or "polished") an organization is, whether it pays its players or not. The Des Moines Menace isn't a professional club and doesn't play in a professional league. But they're a hell of a lot more professional at what they do than the Los Angeles Blues are. Crap organizations usually have crap attendance. That's one way you can tell. A lot of PASL teams (and, to be fair, teams in all indoor leagues over time) just exist, but aren't really trying. They're like airline food: they can keep you alive, but you're not going to get all that excited about it. Maybe. We don't know. You can be "sure" if you want, but it's just a guess.
1600 in the Rio Grande home opener...I don't know, but that can't be what they wanted. The Sidekicks travel there on the 25th (sunday). The State Farm Arena, according to Wiki says it seats 5500 for hockey(roughly) 1800 for the Heat opener...seems ok I guess, but that can't be what they wanted either I would think?
RGV's attendance places them above Las Vegas and Anaheim (which now lists 1300something for their opener), but beneath Harrisburg, San Diego, and Dallas, among arena openers. Texas (Beaumont) is the last arena opener to go, then we'll have an idea how the arena teams will fare. Do keep in mind that although the Heat is playing at the Farmshow Complex, they aren't in the Main Arena this time. They are playing in the Equine Arena, which has a capacity of 2800 (more than it usually holds for horse events, because they are able to move temporary seating into the ends), so at least it didn't look quite so empty as some places.
Given the resources available to most PASL teams, that's a lot of people. Some think attendance just happens, that the number reflects the total interest in the product in the marketplace. That's not how it works. You have to be able to reach people, and that costs money and time that most teams on shoestring budgets simply don't have.
Plus who wants to go see a game in a rec center....seriously. You see some of these 227 and 146 "crowds" and you know even those are inflated. What kind of setting is that for PRO sports??? The casual fan isn't going to the Taylor sportsplex or the Oberlin gym. It's just not gonna happen. Nice crowd for Harrisburg, about what I expected. RGV.......um not a good start in my opinion. What did Tacoma do last night in their new "arena"??? Texas should be interesting. It looks like they have a nice squad, getting hammered in their debut.
Who cares? PASL offers quantity at a low price. MISL offers quality at a high price. Both are at the bottom of the barrel, relatively speaking. When the MISL gets 10+ teams averaging 5,000 min. a game, are playing 36+ games per team a season, and gets a decent T.V. contract - a case can be made that it is "so far superior to the PASL." It's sad that it is being run by a outdoor league - at least the PASL is independently run.
