The regular season draw was released this past week, so I guess it's time to start this topic up again! The Draw: http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/wleague/results I'm really excited to see the addition of the W. Sydney Wanderers, and I'm also glad to see the increase in games, though I am wondering that if you're going to increase the games from 10, why'd they stop at 12 instead of go straight to the 14 of a balanced schedule? X-D I'm having real trouble finding player information... Anyone know how WSW is shaping up, or if there have been any big moves in other clubs?
Rosters are being released over the next two weeks as they become finished and certified. The Newcastle Jets released there's today...Adelaide should be released this week...Next-week will be Perth and Canberra...don't know about any others... Let's see about any big news... Mackenzie Arnold and Sam Kerr transferred from Perth to Canberra. Lisa DeVanna is signing with Perth Newcastle signed Americans Angela Salem, Tori Huster and Tiffany Boshers Canberra signed German International Ariane Hingst Elysse Perry signed with Sydney ...should be more news every day...
Two days until kickoff! (At least, it's still the 18th where I am.) \o/ (Gosh, I wonder if I have time this weekend to get the Wiki pages up... @_@) I'm impressed by the lineup WSW has already, and I'm excited to hear what internationals they may bring in. Too bad, though, that they couldn't arrange the W-League's Sydney derby to be the double-header with the A-League's Sydney Derby.
Hi all, This is the official W-League page: http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/wleague On the results bar towards the top of each page, click on each match and you'll get a few options, including footage of each match where available. In the line-ups section, click on the player's name and you get a pop-up mugshot of the player concerned. All in all, quite well done, which, coming from a Kiwi, is high praise for our West Island brethren! Talking of the most important players in the league, we've sent nine across the Tasman this year to help the Aussies raise their standards to our level , namely: Hannah Bromley (Sydney FC), Brittany Dudley-Smith (Melbourne Victory), Abby Erceg (Adelaide United), Emma Kete (Sydney FC), Annalie Longo (Sydney FC), Sarah McLaughlin (Adelaide United), Liz Milne (Perth Glory), Holly Patterson (Adelaide United), and Rebekah Stott (Melbourne Victory). Aroon Clansey is at Canberra United, but as their video analyst. Cheers, Scousekiwi
.... ....so, raise your hand if you ever thought that Perth would be sole possessor of pole position. 0.O
I don't know if this has got much notice but Icelandic number 1 Thora Helgadottir, arguably the best goalie in the Swedish league over the past season, has signed with the Western Sydney Wanderers. She leaves for Australia at the end of the Swedish season (early November). Rumour has it that she had an offer from Rossiyanka but turned it down because playing with them instead of LdB in Sweden would have ruined her chances of playing in Australia.
With who they have on their roster, they could be the strongest team in the league. Matildas: Collete McCallum, Kate Gill and Aivi Luik Internationals: Sasha Andrews (Canadian WNT and Pali Blues); Carly Telford (English and Chelsea GK) and Liz Milne (NZ WNT) * they will also have Matilda, Lisa DeVanna, when she returns from Sweden. Their back-line is rock-solid and they have numerous attacking option that will only become more deadly with the addition of DeVanna. They have won their first two matches without Luik (injury) and DeVanna. They are at WSW this weekend.
Glad to see Wanderers have a women's section. First I've heard that would be true. I've enjoyed watching the men's side unfold on other threads, thanks to CPC mate el-capitano. Still a Vics fan foremost, but at least I care about the Sydney scene now. Same venue as WSW men?

Honestly, I was more impressed with how WSW started its roster, with three Matildas plush Walsh and rumors of bigger international signings (I didn't recognize any of Perth's). So WSW 2-0 PG was no surprise to me at all. Just because a team looks good on paper doesn't mean they'll do well, and I was so used to Perth underperforming. Of course, Cannuli wasn't called up just the other day, and I admit to not being able to find out much but I haven't seen any internationals on WSW yet. And I must admit to Perth's power, what with their 6-1 drubbing of the Jets yesterday. @_@
Canberra is the team to beat again this year. WSW has a young team guided by the experience of a few ex national players. They will be good in years to come. A few imports will boost the results.
The Internationals that WSW picked up were a trio from NZ. We'll see what they really have in about an hour when they play Canberra. Perth's strength will be on the offensive end...even though their defense is not shabby at all...they just apply so much pressure on opponents... BTW...Perth has a total of 4 Matildas
Until someone knocks them off, then you have to tip to Canberra...reigning champions until proven otherwise.
They added Lisa DeVanna last week - had to wait till she returned from Sweden. Today's results: Melbourne Victory 2-1 over Sydney FC and Western Sydney 1-1 with Canberra... * That leaves Perth alone at the top of the table
Swedes to W-leauge: Louise Fors have signed with Western Syndey Wanderers and Petra Larsson is on loan to Melbourne Victory from Linköping (until early 2013) . Both played there first game in Australia during the weekend and before that played in Linköping (until the end of the Swedish seasson on November 3rd)
Thora Helgadottir that has signed with the Western Sydney Wanderers was selected the best goalie in Sweden last night.
Wooowww... Canberra got thumped by Melbourne, their first loss since another 0-3 game to Sydney back in January of '11. NOT a good sign going into international competition soon.... WSW and Perth impressing again, though.

To Canberra's defense, they were missing their National Team players and two others who denied NT call-up were not allowed to play...that left them with an even 11 players...I know that every team was affected by NT call-ups...but none were as devastated as Canberra...and...they were playing a Victory side that had just brought in 2 Swedish NT players...I'll never make an excuse for losing...but, sometimes there are reasons...
