So Petke is now the 4th ex-Rapid coaching a MLS team (Fraser, Kinnear, Vermes). Though oddly, none of them coach the Rapids.
You could say that. But the truth is that Petke is never going to coach a regular season game for this team. He is the interim until they get someone in January/February. The idea that Mike Petke actually coaches this team with the owners they have is laughable. Oh, and I still expect Fraser to get fired in about T-minus 5, 4, 3 ....
Wasn't Garry McAllister rumored to lining up for the position a few weeks ago? The writing was on the wall for Backe when the upper management changes occurred. He was a walking deadman. Backe can go home to coach, probably Helsingsborg IF, who have a caretaker manager now.
they also named former Scotland manager/UEFA technical director as Sporting Director. http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/news/2012/11/red-bulls-appoint-andy-roxburgh-sporting-director
I bet he is on a guaranteed contract. As is Tim "Can't jump no more" Cahill. PS. Andy Roxburgh is actually a pretty respected name around FIFA but Red Bulls keeps hiring names much like Daniel Snyder.
Cahill's heading ability particularly on the defensive side on corners and set pieces has been outstanding. My guess is that his ultimate role in our set-up will be revealed next year. His signing was almost certainly approved by Houllier with the future not just this year in mind. Wouldn't be surprised if McAllister likes him as a player and possibly even signed off on the acquisition too. Most people in the club thought Soler/Backe were gone last year. This year was certainly last chance stuff. Either make a serious run at the championship or be gone. Petke's appointment likely means he's a part of the future. No one in the NY/NJ/Conn/Penn metro area is in the least surprised.
Maybe with the old regime that led C-USA but rumors are and have been pretty strong that Efrain Flores is set to become the new boss.
Is there any regret from New York for firing Arena, considering what he's been able to do with LA since he was given the axe?
18 years at UEFA...he must be good at politics at least. As far as I can tell, he has never worked with a club team as a coach or front office staff since his playing career ended (he was player-coach at Clydebank)...Scotland Director of Coaching, Scotland Manager, UEFA Technical Director.
