At one point, someone with one of the local blogs (Unsuck DC Metro?) did some experiments about this. Basically, considering only the time it takes to get to your destination, when it comes to Blue/Orange Line destinations from National, if you're going to Farragut West, Foggy Bottom, or any of the Virginia stops, you're typically better off taking a Blue train from National. If you're going to McPherson Square or anything east of that, you're typically better off taking a Yellow line train from National and transferring to Blue/Orange at L'Enfant. But . . . Yes. Everything is predicated on Metro working normally; but I've been fscked by Metro too many times to count on them when it comes to anything that's time-critical.
For those that don't follow me on the FaceSpace or the Twitbook, here's a little something I made in honor of last night's hero (well, one of them), inspired by @JustMama71. Please enjoy.
Take the cab. (Just reread your post. If you arrive at DCA at 3:15 PM. RIDE THE TAXI!!!! Now if it was a meaningless friendly.... than maybe the metro.) If you had a 3 hour window to get to the stadium, than metro. But this isn't any regular season game. Its the Conf.. Finals baby! And its a Sunday. Slowest & longest waits on Metro. Even Sat. is way better. Besides cab fare will be less than $20 ($35 max.) Less pocket change but you'll have a 100% guarantee of catching the full 90 mins.
OK, then, I'll just start to consider Pajoy as a withdrawn forward then, and begin to praise his ability to get forward and deliver good balls in, and pretend he's not really supposed to score himself. Problem solved.
And total agreement on the cab. I NEVER take Metro on weekends, and honestly I go out of my way to avoid it as much as possible even during the week. 20+ years of no maintenance whatsoever is being performed after hours and on weekends, and there's a lot of "single tracking" or "stations closed but shuttle buses provided" to do that work.
The one downside is that the line at the cab stand at DCA can suck. I think you can bypass it if you reserve a car ahead of time from, say, one of the Arlington cab companies that is far more reliable than any of the DC cab companies. I think Red Top does this - they pick you up on the outer curb, but can only (legally) do so if you've called ahead.
Well, I need a cigarette because I feel like I got The Awesome this morning after watching the highlights again.
Yeah, that's his thing. Every player in MLS should know it. It's the one thing he really, really learned well.
Just heard more about why it took so long to cancel the Wed night game. Best Soccer Show reported/reminded us that the Saturday date in Houston was supposed to be an NBC (NOT NBCSN) time slot so they were likely trying to do everything they could to avoid pushing out of that time slot. Makes sense as a reason (not a good one) that they delayed the decision. I guess I'm glad Garber apologized and hopefully MLS will learn from this. And thank goodness we won so we don't have to be as pissed off about this debacle.
I don't have much to say that others haven't said already. I had an unbelievably good time. Also, my voice is still somewhat raspy. Here is a quick video I threw together.
Once the stadium was opened, and the fans, players, vendors, security people, staff, etc were all there on Wednesday, they should have played the game. Rodriguez and Garber both wimped out. Of course, I still think that Backe was intentionally sandbagging the attempt to clear the snow, but Geiger said the field was fine and was ready to play. He was overruled by league officials who undoubtedly caved in to Backe's and Henry's wishes. I watched a bit of the DVR from Wednesday night, and very early on you can see Henry telling Backe he didn't want to play in the snow.
Not to keep complainging but as Kyle Martino said that field looked like it was cleaned up with a bit more than snow shovels. That field looked why too nice a day after that storm assuming they were "doing all they could" wednesday night.
Temps got as high as 50 during the day Thursday, so as long as they got it shoveled to the grass being visible, it would have melted pretty rapidly. Still, they worked half-assed wednesday, for certain.
During the pre-game he said ground crews worked on clearing the field late into the night on Wednesday after the stadium was empty. That's when they broke out the real snow removal equipment. I hate them so very very much.
Oh I have no doubt they were doing all they could on Wednesday. Doing all they could to get the game postponed that is.
Yeah, but Salihi already has, and he's got a much better goals scored to minutes played ratio than Pajoy. I don't understand why he doesn't get more playing time than Pajoy, especially given the fact that he's a DP
I get why Pajoy starts over Salihi. I don't get what Pajoy does that makes him preferable to Santos in that target forward role.
