    No need to waste time.

Looking at either the #14 or #15 pick in the SuperDraft. Will also have two second round picks (natural selection + NY's from the Auvray trade). Both will be in the 30-35 range so not a lot of value.

What contracts are up? Roger's for sure. They've done a good job with early extended contracts--- Besler, Sapong, Zusi, etc.

Dwyer barely played so he should retain GA status.

We'll have the 14th pick as the second best regular season team to go out this round, San Jose gets 15. Losers of tonight's games get 12 and 13

Perhaps this is a knee-jerk reaction to last night, but I really want a big name DP. We don't have to reach into the echelon of Beckham or Henry, someone like Keane would be fine.

I'd be fine with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, personally.

We need some depth and a reliable striker but it doesnt have to be a DP. DP doesnt equal success.

Ok, Buzz, do you happen to know whose contracts are expiring? Rogers, for sure, anyone elses?

So who (else) do we think will be leaving? Aiyegbusi seems like a candidate. Depending on how PV wants to handle the situation, Convey has to be at least mentioned. Warzycha didn't look great in his time at CB in the open cup, but I simply disagree with this placement in the first place, though he's also only 23. Aiyegbusi is only 24, for that matter.

Do we get another year out of Jimmy? When is Kronberg actually going to get his chance?

    Anyone else?

I don't know who else is out of contract. Based off the standard 4 year contract MLS likes, it'd be just Espinoza since Myers reupped recently.

Nielsen isn't leaving, he signed a new contract this offseason. I gotta wonder if we'll keep Kronberg around, not that he's a bad keeper, but to let him actually play.

Aiyegbusi I think is gone, especially since he still doesn't have a GC by my understanding.

Hey now! He is almost certainly leaving Schalke, but seems bound and determined for one last huge payday at 29...will not get anywhere close to MLS. If he can't get his loot in Europe, he will join Raul in Qatar, or somewhere like that before MLS.

Certainly. And I'm not trying to claim that it is. The league has very consistently shown that DPs don't equal success. But the reason that happens is because teams bring in a big name (Theirry Henry) and then try to build around him. It's one thing to have a group of two or three ridiculously talented players and a concoction of eight or nine other guys who are trying to keep up. It's another thing entirely to have a very well established team unit and then bring in a very talented guy who is going to draw off defenders and open up acres of space for your cohesive foundation that you brought him into.

We've got a well-established 4-3-3 where everyone plays a certain role. Our starting XI really doesn't have a glaring weak link - injuries/depth aside. All I'm saying is, take a position like the one Teal/CJ filled all season, and despite it not be a glaring weakness, you'd like to see more output, more turning towards goal from your striker. Swap Teal/CJ out for someone like Huntelaar (just to continue my name-dropping above, I'm really just using him as a stand in for any young, talented, very capable striker that would have a significantly different impact on a team than a Claudio Lopez or a Jeferson) and you've got a mega-upgrade that will look at our 42 total goals scored this season and simply laugh.

So, back to my "building a team around a DP vs. sticking a DP in a proven team" argument, I think a good, "higher echelon" DP would be fantastic for this team right now. The potential hang-ups are, due to logistics and real life, finding such a guy for a reasonable price is not as easy as going to the grocery store, and we are going to have to use a good portion of our salary cap building depth as well.

tl/dr ; Yes, we all know DP does not equal success, but I feel like our team is in a unique position that bringing in a higher echelon DP would be very beneficial.

Oh, I know. And I don't realistically think we have a shot at signing anyone like him over here any time soon, anyway. But it's a fan's job to dream!

Is it safe to assume Convey is gone?

Was Soony hurt the second half of the season? I never heard him listed as an available sub?

I'm not sure Convey's gone but he's definitely not earning the raise that was mentioned when we signed him.

Saad fell out of favor my only thought

It hasn't been mentioned here but there has been talk about Zusi possibly taking his great year and USMNT performances to jump to Europe. He's on contract so it will be significantly harder for another team to get him but with how MLS likes to interfere with transfers it's not out of the question. He's getting older (obviously not "old" but definitely not young anymore) by European standards so if he wanted to go (has previously been open to the idea) this might be the best time for him. I really don't want to see it but its another thing in the radar.

We won't sell him, not with the CL looming. Losing both Roger and Zusi would be devestating to the team, and goes against the very image that the brand is trying to achieve. You know the, we are not the Royals, image.

I'll be interested to see if Cesar is back next season. He's about to turn 34 and he's their highest paid player, making $252K. He can play several positions and he started 25 MLS games plus several Open Cup games. He doesn't score a lot of goals but the ones he does score are "technically perfect". Despite being 6'1", he doesn't seem to ever get his head on the ball during set pieces.

On the other hand, the team's defense was strong this past year and you hate to mess with it. Personally, I'd probably keep Cesar over, say, Harrington.

Maybe Cesar and Paulo can be the Brazilian ambassadors that help us land Ronaldinho. :)

Older MLS players tend to sign 2-year contracts, and not the standard 2+2. This is the end of the second year. A renegotiaion is needed. That salary is awfully high for a player who will be seeing less minutes.

I'd be happy to give Cesar 1+1 if he took a 15% pay cut.
