That's the thing. They're recently drafted. If they're good, they'll be making more money when they renegotiate.

Anywho, unless there's a big change in Wingert's or Beltran's performances, I don't think the team tries to replace them with a similar player to save $30k. In fact, maybe RSL should upgrade at outside back by paying more for someone who has real offensive skills without sacrificing defense.

I am still pissed we didn't make a move for Kimura when he moved from the cRapids to Portland.
He seems like the exact kind of guy we need at outside back

RSL's Lagerwey: Tough choices can wait for offseason

If? haven't getting 2nd in the West already "does well"? I'm all for change for the future, but that statement doesn't make sense.

He's talking about a doing well in the playoffs, not the regular season. IF RSL can make it to MLS cup and nab another CCL spot, he may be able to keep the band together a little longer.

This is an interesting thing to watch. Certainly, someone on this group is going to either have to take a pay cut or move out. We have a few players running out on their contracts at the end of this season. Those that I know of for sure: Wingert, Beltran, and Javi.

Wingert is the best all-around outside back on this team. They'll keep him. His abilities to slide into the middle, if we're really in a pinch, also contribute to his for sure stay.

Beltran has great upside. With him running out of contract this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him test the free agency market. He could probably end up back at RSL, but teams will want his presence out there. Only making it that much harder/more expensive for us

Javi isn't worth the salary we are paying him currently. At the end of this year, he'll go on free agency. I wouldn't be surprised to see some other team possibly pick him up. It is what it is. We simply can't afford to pay him at his current rate. If someone else can/wants so, more power to them

Completely OT but every time I play FIFA, every MLS teams fights over trying to buy Beltran from me. Why is that? LB/RB thing? Age?

Good question. Whenever I play FIFA, my first move is to sell all of the players who are no longer on the team (Arturo Alvarez, Alexandre, etc.).

Ditto. Also, I created Martinez and Velasquez and bought Findley and Yura. After a few seasons, I sold Martinez to Real Madrid and Velasquez to Barca.

I like the "Be A Pro" mode that was in FIFA 10. You picked one player and played as them for 4 seasons; the rest of the team is controlled via AI. It's much harder to play as one player and have to maintain your position in order to earn points.

    I always sell Johnson.
All the teams in my career mode wants him.
In my current save he's NY's leading goalscorer.

It's still there, but I believe it's unlimited seasons now. You can play as just yourself, or as the whole team. RSL was a bunch of jerks to me though. They immediately put me on loan, and when nobody would take me, they played me a whole 2 games because someone was injured (true to RSL). I did get picked up in the offseason by Santos in Brazil, took a loan to the Irish league, and I'm back tearing it up with Neymar. :D

I did play some games vs Seattle last night, and they had a current roster, including Viana. I think they put him in as a placeholder though, because he's only rated 49, and I'm guessing he'd be rated ~60 normally. The roster setup was weird by default due to people being injured. I had to replace about half the team with starters, and forgot Reynish was still in goal. I'm positive that's why we lost the first game 2-1. FIFA 13 is amazing, imo. It's miles better than 12, even though the only real addition is a little better dribbling + attacking AI.

Plus the different skills games. The skill game where you chip the ball into the trash cans is very addicting!

Crossing the ball into the crossbar is possibly the worst thing ever. That being said, I lucked into gold on it after a few tries. One other thing I like about 13 vs 12, is the skill ups of your Pro player. I like that it's based on doing stuff in game, instead of doing stuff in arena mode in between games.
Skill challenges before games is also more fun.

When the FO won't make moves to better the team, we have to resort to FIFA to make it happen. ;)

Start with the coach, this team should have achieved more than one MLS cup. ,Kries is just as responsible for the lack of success over the past 3 years as any player. Hell he is more responsible.

I realize we are mad, but the chances that Checketts and friends get rid of Lagerway and Kreis is nil. Players, yes, but the coaching/FO is safe IMO.

With that said, there are strategies that Jason has been using that need to be retired and redrawn. Hopefully next year will be new hope. Maybe.

Does Jason have the talent as a coach to adapt his approach. I seriously doubt it. He looks far far to stubborn to admit his past approach did not work. And seriously what in gods name does he see in a guy like Steele? This alone should be enough to fire his ass.

Jason could play Rimando as a striker and he'd never get tossed.
I'm just hoping someone gives him a stern talking to about his tactics.

Maybe it's cathartic for you all to feel terrible about how awful this team has been after a tough season. If so, please feel free to skip this post. Because I'm going to put a bit of a positive spin on it.

I would argue that this has been an incredible team over the past three years. I see a lot of people saying that we should have won more silverware with this team, and that Kreis should be fired for not doing so. I'm as disappointed as the rest of you about the loss tonight, but let's not forget that (a) we just had the second-best season in team history and (b) all playoffs are crap-shoots because of the nature of soccer. All it takes is one moment to completely change a game, and so there is no guarantee that the best team will win any given tournament. In fact, it's pretty unlikely that will happen--see SJ and SKC this year, for example, or RSL in 2010. It takes an incredible amount of luck to win a playoff, and we got lucky once. I feel like the only trophy we should have won that we didn't was CCL last year, when it was on a silver platter set out for us. And again, all it took was a moment of great play by Suazo to take that away from us. That's disappointing, but if you're going to judge Kreis and Lagerway and this whole team based on that one moment I think you're missing the bigger picture.

All I'm trying to say is, I've really enjoyed watching a top-tier MLS team for the past 3 seasons. I've gone in to most games expecting to get points, and usually RSL has delivered. They've taken us for some exciting rides: 2009's Cup run, 2010's defensive dominance, the 2010/11 CCL run, Javi's injury and return, rallying around Andy's family, and a really solid sunset year in 2012 to finish it out. It's clear that there need to be significant changes this off-season, but before we light the fuse I salute the guys that have put RSL on the map.
