lol like I said, paranoid... what does RB have to gain by pushing for the game to be played at a time where barely any fans could get to the stadium?

You're making the mistake of thinking like a rational human being. This team isn't run by rational human beings. Red Bull probably doesn't even check the weather channel. They probably thought 25,000 fans would come out tonight. They probably don't even know there WAS a hurricane.

Like I said, it doesn't even matter because the decision was 100% on MLS, but so long as we've established that this isn't a rational conversation I'll see my way out and leave you to your conspiracies.

You could tell before the game that Henry thought it was a joke that they were even considering playing.

I'm not saying I'm in favor of Cosmos being #20, but the area they are trying to shoot for would be an entirely different market than what Red Bull have.

Yeah.. it was totally ridiculous to play. So cancel it BEFORE everyone wastes their time and risking their safety to get there.

The only people there last night were RB's BIGGEST fans. Play the match. They made their bed but refused to lie in it. And Hans you piece of sh!t... If WE ARE ALL ALREADY THERE, then say you want to to play you translucent haired jack-nut. I get it, you said early on it should have been postponed. I get it. BUT that that point, AFTER it wasn't postponed and we all came out, step up and play. Olsen did.

This wasn't about snow. It's about NY playing at a disadvantage because of the conditions. In other words, "******** the very best fans of both teams."

Correct.... Absolutely zero way to genuinely dispute this.

They were clealy milking the snow removal process in order to create the illusion that the field was unplayable. A few pathetic souls with cheap shovels for a "professional playoff match"? What kind of fool would actuaally believe they were genuinely trying to get the field ready to play?

    Any fools out there? Anyone?

Hell, even when I left that morning the forecasts were calling for more of a rain/snow mix. Weather forecasting, sadly, is still an inexact science at best

side note : considering how first class everything else is in the stadium, I am very surprised they didn't spring for an underground heating system just to have it for the odd case like this.

C'mon man, I hate Red Bull as much as the next guy, but put the onus on MLS for this cluster

Can anyone actually confirm what the situation with the heating system was? I've read all of the following situations as having happened:

    1) There is a heating system and it was on but the field was too cold anyway
    2) There is a heating system but it wasn't turned on
    3) There is no heating system

Why? Olsen was on rthe record saying he wanted to play. If Hans was on board we would surely played.

MLS didnt cancel it early sure, BUT to say RB didnt play a role in canceling it is being disingenuous.

I went last night, and was really excited about it, figuring it would be an epic game under insane conditions. But as soon as I saw the pitch and the 12 or so people shoveling, I knew there was no chance it would happen. Playable? No f'n way. Ben Olsen talking out of his ass. I was seriously worried I would be stranded in Newark after I heard the LIRR was shut down, thinking NJ Transit might be next. Thankfully, not the case.

Curious what the gate actually was. Other than the Supporters section, everyone else was hanging out in the concourse/Red Bull shop to keep out of the elements, but still very very very few people as expected.

Anyways, bad decision not to cancel in the afternoon. After the last week, exercising caution probably the best idea. Hope the travelling DC fans make it back tonight and MLS buys them the beer for the road.

The whole point is that it doesn't matter what either coach said, they are not part of the decision making process. If you want to call me naive, go ahead.

Completely agree with you. Fact is everything you read and everything shown and said on tv last night confirms that it was MLS call. Garber and Rodriguez didn't want to call the game and waited to the last minute to do. Maybe they were worried about TV coverage, appearing weak compared to EPL or just to stubborn. But to think the Red Bulls as organization wanted the situation that happened to occur is not rational. MLS gambled the weather would not be as bad as the forecasters were calling for and they lost.

I emailed both the Red Bulls and MLS saying that they were putting the players and fans in a dangerous situation. My town was asking for people to stay off the road last night due to the snow and wires that were already down and possible new ones that might fall. I pointed out that the donation drive by MLS cares was going to fail, the stadium would look empty and they would be putting DC fans in a dangerous situation with the bus ride to and from. Guess what, two hours later I got a call from the Red Bulls office completely agreeing with me but saying that it appeared the game would go on, with a tone that indicated that it was not there choice. They offered to credit me my tickets cost to my account for the next round or next season. I took them up on the offer, I normally have a 40 min drive to the game who knows how long it would have been last night and it would have been dangerous. No game is worth risking my life over, I'm a huge fan of the Red Bulls, but I'm a bigger fan of living.

Oh and I still haven't heard from MLS. MLS did not care about their fans last night and messed up royally on tv.

How the hell could it have been too cold? It was in the mid 30's.

They play CL games in Russia in snow, on frozen fields, in single digit temps. MLS made themselves a laughing stock last night.

Actually...not preparing properly for a big storm, and then not knowing the mechanics of shoveling seem about par for the course for this organization.

I don't think they're smart enough to build any elaborate "illusions" about the playing conditions.
