Oh shut up, I've been a ref ever since I was a little kid, I've trained refs, I, unlike most MLS fans, actually know the rules in and out.

Head over to the ref forum sometime, find some unbiased analysis from real referees. Cause the casual MLS fan wouldn't know a rulebook if it hit them in face.

I am a referee too, although mostly of the blind + deaf sort. There is a lot of latitude in how the laws are interpreted. MLS refs tend to overlook a lot of fouling, but if they do decide to make the call, the LOTG back them up. Then players and fans complain that this particular referee didn't call the foul the last 20 times someone made it, so it's an unfair call. An elbow to the head or a deliberate smack in the face is a red. Both teams should have been playing a man down. But they weren't. Some referees will call simulation and timewasting. Stott didn't.

So. The laws are pretty clear in and of themselves. But there remains a lot of subjectivity in their application. And that is why people complain.

I'm not saying people shouldn't disagree with calls.

But to accuse the league of fixing games, and using this one as an example, is completely ridiculous.

Kind of sad that I am european, so thanks for the insult.

And yes this is the MLS, and the problem is that there is a lot of retired players playing here. Henry is only 34, he can still be playing in the EPL. Henry is still FAST and smart.

But the quakes play a faster pace of game, having a slow player on the pitch would harm things. plus MLS is a fast paced league, so a slow mid will get devoured unless he has fast players around him, ALA beckham. 3 of our starters are considered FAST players. our style of play would not fit him in the least bit.

just saying. I am tired and depressed. so don't mind my slurred speech

Bullshit. Every effing call in that game was Stott angling to get the final, from start to finish. If you don't see that, you don't know a damn thing about officiating. Stott is perfectly capable ref, in fact one of the best. He can call a fair game when he wants to. He didn't. From the first whistle to the last. How many corner kicks were given as goal kicks...did that balance out or were all the mistakes one way? How many times did the goalkeepers take more than 6 seconds to get the ball back in play...did that balance out? How many times did fouls get called on LA to end a SJ advantange when no card was given. It can look like foul calls being balanced, but in fact it just advantages the the team that commits the foul. You think Stott will get the final if he gives Gonzalez his red card? You think Stott will get the final if he awards the PK for the foul by Meyer at the end. No, of course not. Stott knows that...we know that. From the first call on Bernardez, Stott was angling to deliver Garber what he wanted. He heard all the chirpping from LA and Arena and gave them exactly what they asked for and keeps his hopes of getting the MLS Cup final alive. We've watched him ref for decades. I know what he's capable of. This is not a bad or incompetent referring performance, it's just a very calculated one.

You say I don't know a damn thing about officiating, and in the same breath you complain about 6 second calls. That's a joke.

Hope this game didn't interrupt too much of your day...must be busy between trying to find out if we landed on the moon, who blew up the WTC, who killed Kennedy, where's Tupac, and if the world is *really* round.

I don't think the referee determined the outcome of the game. Our crappy defending did.

I would say most referees value their reputation above all, and will try to avoid behavior that casts any questions on their objectivity. I don't think Stott came in saying to himself "LA has to win" even if he may have realized that was the preferred outcome, and therefore it may subliminally have influenced his calls. Who knows?

I do think that there is a league-wide policy, maybe tacit rather than explicit, to treat DPs differently. And I expect we can pretty much all agree that that is just wrong. When you venture down the line of "well, he's worth $50mm to our league and therefore..." it's no longer fair play but corruption, which is about the last thing our young league needs.

Signing off in hopes of waking up in time for my early morning meeting.

Eh, well the term "Eurosnob" is not meant to be offensive on the basis of nationality, but attitude of preference from any nationality, and in this environment only. That should be known. If you took it the wrong way, well sorry. Most of Henry's goals have come from smart thinking than physical skill. The MLS defending, more specifically, is what is slow and heavily reliant on physical ability. Riquelme could be slow, but his dribbling and creativity could extremely compensate for that. And a playmaker doesn't necessarily need to have speed. He just needs to have space and creativity to facilitate the other players. He could fit it as a CAM player.

I'm not happy to see all the bashing of Earthquakes players here tonight or even of the ref.

We got beat. LA played like a team for once. They finished their chances when they needed to and I saw incredible determination with every player on their team busting their butt to shut down our crosses and take the ball away from us in the middle of the field. I did not see a lot of time wasting or complaining (except LD) in the second half. I hate the LA Galaxy who are a bunch of over privileged, whining pricks. They were better than that tonight. I wish that the bad old Galaxy had shown up, we would have goonied them.

    We had a bad night.

I'm looking forward to next year and especially the year after when we have a real home. I agree that we need some help in the middle and hopefully we can pick up a DP for that.

One hell of a season and I love my Quakes more than anything. We are the kings of the league

    A little venting...

Gordan - I bet Gordon rethinks playing for the national when that game means shit right before the playoffs

Yallop - The line up should have had Salinas, and Gordon in from the start.

    Cronnin - looked like shit

Muma - went off way too early ... sure didn't look serious

Ike - ahhh could have been a hero tonight ...

Ref - foul in the box .... noting going to go there

Baca - is not to BLAME

yes, but a older player can get injured more and get out of shape easier which is what you don't want from a DP.

Barack Obama first term... 6 Trillion in debt. George Bush 8 years... 5 trillion.
Or Maybe that majority of the deaths in Afghanistan have occurred during Obama not Bush.
Let's start there about Democrats being more responsible than Republicans. Argue in facts when you respond to that.

Why would Gordon regret representing HIS country?
What did Salinas do today that showed he warranted a start apart from running a lot?

With a proper CAM I think you cannot have the current Trifecta of forwards. We would need more speed up front so that the CAM had players to play on goal into space. If we want to keep the current crop of forwards we need to a better box to box mid like Alonso in Seattle and get a solid threat on the opposite wing of Chavez because Dawkins as a winger who plays too narrow and we don't even know if he is coming back.

Club and country is how YOU feel. Gordon was called up and got us the win in Antigua. I seriously doubt he would regret going.

Second, Salinas has not shown better than any of the other wingers. Dawkins looked a constant threat today, and in regards to Chavez, if he keeps his head in the game is incredibly dynamic.

Did anyone else at the stadium notice Dawkins gave up on his mark on the third goal? And how wondo was chewing him up over it. He even pointed to Dawkins on the replay to show him where he let the runner go in free.

fact, 2008 the market crashed after 8 years of republican incompetence and fiscal irresponsibility. fact, Democrats passed a stimulus to stop a great depression all the while being attacked by the incompetent republicans. Fact, two hot wars were on when he came in. This is the lack of personal responsibility I was talking about. Republicans are like chris farley in "Tommy Boy" when he broke the door off David Spade's car then when Spade tries to open the door it falls off and Farley says "Whatya do?!"

And this isn't even the first time democrats have had to save capitalism from the loons. Its like a cycle in America were the extremists push capitalism over the edge and it collapses everyone freaks out. Then a democrat has to fix it while right wingers squeal "Socialism! Communism! Socialistcommienazikenyanhomosexualpolygamistmuslim whos mother was a woman of ill repute!"

I doubt the league fixes matches. I do believe the league dictate however, who should or want to win and which players play on which teams. LA & NY and LAndy to or in LA are prime examples of this and it has BEEN PROVEN SINCE 1996. They make up and change their own rules as they go along year in and year out. I'm pretty sure Don Garber didn't want NY to play in their home last night out of fear they might lose even though DC United wanted to play in spite of the snow. If he had it his way, he would have a NY -LA final every year and that is really sad. It might be a tired old line but its the truth. I don't know how anyone who doesn't know the game or the league for that matter, can't see this.

No more politics. There's places to discuss that on BigSoccer and this thread is not one of them. ant0n, Qrom, you are both being specifically called out -- any more posts about politics from either of you (or anyone else, but you two are the ones who have continued to post about it after being asked not to earlier in the thread) and you'll find yourself not posting much of anything in this forum.

Riquelme is fantasticly in shape. He has never had any serious injuries, if any at all. He does not look 34 years old. I've looked at more videos of him, and all that talk of him being "slow" have greatly exaggerated from my part...if not completely ill-informed. This is him against Arsenal at last year's Emirates Cup:
