I don't think they would have had a choice, but also our FO is made out of wimpy jack@sses almost as incompetent as the ones in Jerzy

The league is single-entity. We never really had a choice.

With today's shananigans, any DC fan that gets on the bus tomorrow should have free entry into the stadium and a free ride back. period

"As with any MLS event, the League has the final decision to play or postpone a match and we consulted withthem regarding our common concerns surrounding tonight’s game extensively. Under very difficult conditions this evening, we attempted to make the pitch as playable and safe as possible, but it was not meant to be due to the heavy snowfall accumulation,” said Red Bulls General Manager Jérôme de Bontin. “We feel sorry for the fans who made their way out to Red Bull Arena for the match and we are already working on ways to reward them for their unbelievable support and dedication to our club.”

This is really rich coming from a Swede with a team full of Scandinavians and other guys who play in Europe during the Winter. Put them all in the starting line-up with their snow-cleats and bench the wimpy Americans and the French. I'm sure the Icelander on the team is laughing his ass off at this pathetic attempt at a snowstorm right now. He'd probably play the game barefoot just because.

I don't know how to say this without sounding like a bit of an ass, but here goes.
On page 4 of the prematch thread, I posted the note below the dotted line.

I decided not to make the trip up today because I thought the league was making a mistake that was potentially seriously dangerous to allow the game to go forward.
That said, once they decided to try, there's no reason the game wasn't played except for incompetence. The lines easily could have been painted a different color in anticipation. Serious snow removal equipment could have at least been rented. And the league could have bought more than one orange ball. Absolutely shameful and ridiculous. HB can kiss my ass. He knows "this changes the game" is not a viable argument. This was EXACTLY why I nearly got in a fight with Dom Kinear a couple years back when he violated MLS rules and came into the stands at RFK to inspect the field.

One thing is clear. MLS is more loyal to its TV contract than it is to either 1) fairness in competition (switching the stadiums and awarding no benefit to DC for finishing 2nd) and 2) the safety and well being of its fans and players who had to travel to or from an event that any chimp could have seen should have been cancelled.

For once I'd actually like to hear from Kevin Payne and learn why he puts up with this crap. I hope we beat the snot out of these Jersey Cow Pies and teach a whole new generation of their players about Metro Playoff Failure.
    --------------------------
I think they should call the game or move it to DC. How does MLS feel about draining police and those who get called in for emergency rescue, given the already bleak situation in Northern Jersey, during the middle of a nor'easter with 60 MPH winds? How would they answer to the family who really needed help but it couldn't be there. Do they care about the safety of the hundreds of fans making the trip from DC? Or the NYRB fans who will travel to the game? This would be a pretty serious storm regardless of recent events. But now it's far more serious. Brick, NJ, is just 50 miles away, and they've already ordered an emergency evacuation for Wednesday. Those evacuation calls are likely to grow. Police need to be called in to secure these areas and help with the evacuation routes. I predict that the match will not be played tomorrow night, at least not in New Jersey. I'm guessing a 3pm announcement today. This is based solely on speculation.

The hell? Do we even have a hope of this game going on tomorrow? I mean, the field should be fine, but then you deal with the logistical issues of personnel and emergency responders. What if Athena causes more power outages? There goes your emergency personnel. I'm not exactly hopeful of the game going on tomorrow, unless the MLS imports some people to run the game.

I can't tell you how much this pisses me off.

If it's snowing and you're afraid for the safety of your players, then I suppose that's one thing. Of course, having more than 10 people with shovels or a *gasp* snowblower would have solved that problem tonight, but that's immaterial now.

But what Backe is saying here is that he didn't want to play because his precious players would have been at a disadvantage. Dax McCarty said he wanted to play. All of DC United wanted to play. The best fans for both teams were there and ready. And Backe was afraid his overpaid divas would be at a disadvantage.

******** him. ******** RB. ******** MLS. ******** them hard. ******** them long. ******** them without lubrication.

Also, RB said they were sending shuttles to the train station to get fans from NYC to the stadium. As far as I and a big ol' mess of RB fans could tell, that was more than a little short of true since there were no buses nor information on when there would be. After the game, they managed to wrangle a bunch of short school buses. How very, very fitting.

And one other thing, the next time some Europoseur like Sepp Blatter wants to talk about switching MLS to a European schedule, he should be forced to watch highlights from tonight's game.

Sorry, now that I'm a little wound up, one other thing.

DC's players, GM and owner practically shot out of the dressing room to console the DC fans after the announcement. Only one RB player, I couldn't see who, did that for the raucous RB fans in the ESC.

    They deserve way, way better.

You know,if they'd played, they would have ended up with some good visuals. It likely would have ended up on Sportscenter. Instead, MLS ends up with no game tonight and tons of annoyed fans.

At the last MLS investor-operators' meeting, the Hunt family got a motion to pass that the only the weather forecasting tool that MLS HQ could use was the Farmers' Almanac that Lamar bequeathed to his sons.

SOrry to you guys, tonite was a joke. I could not believe that there did not appear to be a single piece of mechanized snow removal equipment in the stadium. In New Jersey.

We are now the top remaining seed.

That means that if we make it to the Cup, it'd be at RFK.

I have to admit, I thought this board had more than the usual "whoa is me" types hanging out here. But I am coming over ... Wow the snow job on DC!

Good news, with KC and SJ out, after we pound the red udders, we will be the #1 seed left and the final will be in DC. Made my flight reservations earlier this evening.

Better news, to the 700; my unyeilding respect for your passion. Add Will Chang in as well! Well done DC team who went up to the stands to meet and greet the fans.

    Vamos United!

Well, me and two others decided to stay up in NJ just to make the game tomorrow. But, seriously, eff Garber and RBNY. It's like they want the fix in. We had the good fortune of a nearby place to stay free, and the luxury of calling out Thursday. I don't doubt many others aren't nearly so fortunate. I hope we effing crush the worthless pusses tomorrow. Mercilessly.

MLS tonight showed utter incompetence in how they handled this whole situation. How long would it have taken them to at least rent proper snow clearing equipment even earlier in the day fully knowing what was going to happen weather wise? I mean they keep saying they discussed options in case this happened but I swear at least to me this is complete amateur hour on their part because it feels like nothing was really planned out until the last minute when even Garber went "uh oh" when he saw a pitch full of snow and only a dozen or so snow shovels near by to clean it up with.

Any other league in the world would have been better prepared for this. And now 700 or so of your fans have to either find arrangements to stay in New Jersey (which good luck given the circumstances with Sandy and all) or go back to the DC area via bus. Not to mention the Red Bulls fans who came out as well.

But hey now MLS has managed to get all FOUR games on TV when originally only two were going to get on national TV. Oh and anyone notice the league just happened to finally decide on postponing the game right when the Houston @ KC game was about to start so NBC Sports Net could suddenly switch right to the Houston feed... or am I the only one who noticed that?

After 3am. Still on the bus coming back to rfk, then need to drive home. I am too furious and uncomfortable to sleep. What happened tonight was so unacceptable.

How many times in the history of the league has any team sent 700 supporters to an away game mid week? How many times?

This is a classic MLS rivalry. Great stories on both sides.

What the ******** is the league thinking? This shows no respect for our team or it's fans. None. If they weren't willing to make a serious effort to play the game, is the league planning to do anything to at least take responsibility?

    So much not ok.

Well lets see. They were hiding shovels. The interns clearing the field were too busy flipping us off to do it :D They would not accept help that DC FO and fans offered (50 of us would have cleared that place in no time). They were moving really obviously slow.

It's almost like they wanted to postpone the game.

Left work at 6:30 in Manhattan with two friends/newbies, re-enacted "Planes Trains and Automobiles" to get to Harrison, joined our contingent in the upper deck wearing a suit, thankful that we hadn't missed any of the match. Five minutes later, game is cancelled. Back to Manhattan and back to work until 5 a.m. I'd almost be less disappointed if DCU had given a solid effort but lost.
