Emphasis mine... Damn.... Maybe, just to take into account some countries, like I don't know... Mexico, Argentina, Colombia etc, don't belong in this "soccer worlwide" thing.

    I missed the Sounders78 Warning :(

I wouldn't mind a rule where if the score is level after 180 minutes then the higher seeded team advances. Would force the home side to attack in the first leg while also giving a big reward for regular season performance. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Mexico has this rule as does the J-league 2nd division playoff.

Damn, for a guy who seems to be a proponent of the Latin style of play Gardner knows very little about how Latin leagues are run (the vast majority of them have some sort of "playoff" game, even if it's just between the A/C winners.)

    You used too many words, here is your edited version;

    Damn, Gardner knows very little.

NBC Sports picked up Thursday's RSL v. SEA game and moved it to 10pm Eastern. It will again be a re-broadcast of the Seattle production.

Is this three Seattle broadcasts in a row?

Do you mean three Seattle games on NBC Sports in a row? No. Seattle's season finale against LA was on ESPN.

It is definitely not three Seattle games in a row on NBC Sports. The NBC Sports Network schedule has been:

Saturday, October 27: CHI v. DCU & POR v. SJE
Thursday, November 1: LAG v. VAN
Friday, November 2: SEA v. RSL
Saturday, November 3: DCU v. NYR
Wednesday, November 7: NYR v. DCU
Thursday, November 8: RSL v. SEA

I guess DC will have three straight on NBCSN.

Yes (If I understand the question correctly) - The two previous Seattle v. RSL games on NBC Sports, last week and on Oct 17th, also used the Seattle broadcasts.

Ah, maybe I misunderstood the question.

    Thanks both of you.
Sorry about that. I saw your response, but I actually had to do work for a few minutes.

If for some reason the Quakes don't advance, they'll go back to the locker room still being good friends, good teammates, high-fiving each other for an awesome season, and looking forward to an even better season next year.

If the Galaxy don't advance, Arena and his prima donnas they will go back to the locker room blaming the refs, the Quakes and their fans, the weather, phase of the moon, you name it. Then they will blame each other behind each others' backs and go back petulantly to LA with acid reflux in their mouths.

Whatever the outcome, let's ask Omar who's had more fun all season- the Goonies who leave it all out on the field game after game, or the team with the over priced star players who think they're too big to fail?

I'm biased, but I love this quote:

"I'm just giving what I have," [Gordon] said after the game. "I'll limp through 90 minutes if I have to to get the win."
Lenhart, sitting nearby encouraged his teammate to be even more dramatic.
"I will play on my hands," Gordon added.

In the parity-focused MLS, I doubt any player actually thinks that.

One of those "over priced stars" was giving some indications just last week, prior to the playoff starting, that LA potentially could have failed at the 4v5 game against VAN.

The season (and the series) isn't about having more fun than your opponent(s). It is about winning. (And understandably, those things often accompany one another.)

The best line from the article is the one by sports writer Elliot Almond about "sampling the fine whine made in L.A." As I recall, Almond used to write for the L.A. Times, so his jab is truly vintage, so to speak. :)

The point is that after the 10/22 game, Gonzalez complained that the match wasn't fun. Of course it's much more "fun" when you win, but like you said, the primary goal (so to speak) is to win. If it's also fun, that's a bonus.

The SJEarthquakes just seem to be a happier, more unpretentious team, where as the LAGalaxy always seem like they're more uptight, and when they lose it's because they've been wronged, and when they win, they deserve it more than the other team. Or maybe it's just Arena and a few others, and the rest are just trying to make a living.

I'd be interested in knowing where chispa comes from, as these quotes just seem awfully partisan to me. Save it for the Rivalries board.

    Miraculous.

Purdy is the guy who a couple years back ignored the Quakes' MLS Cup titles in a column about Bay Area championships. When called on it, he dismissed the Quakes' titles as the equivalent of those of a girls high school basketball team.

The ground is shifting beneath our feet.
