Definitely the best move now that Tainio is healthy again, he's a good athlete with decent passing vision, just needs playing time to learn some discipline and better decision making. Hopefully he comes back next year as a more serviceable bench option.
I like Palsson as well but he's not ready mentally for this league. He has close to zero IQ and he constantly makes erratic errors when on the pitch. But he does have talent though and this is a good move as the Dutch are notorious for developing young players plus he'll probably get PT/Training time during the MLS offseason which is a plus.
The guy has some talent but he many times he looked very lost out there. Very undisciplined player. But the good thing for him is he is till young and there is time for him to improve. But this move does surprise me. Somebody in Holland wants this guy?
Training in Holland would be better than here in the States. Even if he isn't getting games. Practices are more intense, quality of players is better, and as was mentioned the training staff/coaches are excellent.
He isn't gone it's just a loan. It's not like he was going to get any playing time the rest of this season. Who knows maybe this loan can turn into a transfer and we can collect some sort of fee for him.
If Backe lent him out, it's because he no longer enters into the Red Bull's plans. Don't be surprised to see him traded or sold in the offseason.
I'm curious to see if Hertzog and Palsson do in fact come back next year. Hertzog is probably not going to have his salary covered by GA next year correct? That, and someone from another forum saying that his coach in the USL stated that despite his goals he still has a lot to improve in his game, makes me think he might not be back. As for Palsson, I honestly think the kid has a ton of potential and playing time in a league best known for developing young players is exactly what he needs. I hope he's back next year with a bit more discipline because he has skills (however unrefined) that our current guys don't.
Who knows with the GA contracts as they make shit up as they go along but he hasn't had any playing time so I don't think he should graduate early. I don't know if the GA status extends for the length of the contract if a player doesn't graduate from GA early.
Looks like the team is N.E.C. They are usually a solidly mid-table club and have been in the Eredivisie for the last twenty years or so. (Mostly 10th to 14th in the table the last few years, although they finished 8th last season.) Interesting move. They have 3 points from 3 matches so far this season and got beat up pretty badly by Ajax a couple of weeks ago. I watched part of that match and it wasn't pretty.
Wow, I'm surprised he made his way to a Eredivisie squad. I thought it would be to some 2 league dutch squad sort of like the situation with Bowen in Chivas.
Not sure we can assume that he made it simply based on his gametape. Red Bull may know someone over there.
Palsson has been getting minutes at NEC which is great news. He's appeared in 5 matches so far and has played 254 minutes and he has gone the full 90 for their 2 latest league matches.
His shortcomings were almost 100% disciplinary (whether talking tactics or temper), he's an athletic kid and actually has decent passing vision. Why don't you think he could be an asset to the team with a little more experience? Keep in mind he's only 20/21 years old.
Possibly, what are we paying the kid? Low enough that its worth keeping him around as a 3rd string option for a year or two?
To be honest, I just don't see the potential. I know other people liked his passing, but I thought he turned the ball over quite a bit actually. Hated all his cards unnecessary cards, too. On the contrary, my dad kinda sorta liked his game. Could he be good someday? Sure, maybe. I dont think he is some sort of lost cause or anything like that. If I were at the helm, I would rather take a gamble on someone new than see more of him. Remember back when Lade would come off the bench and make a difference? I want to see our subs have that little something that could change a game, even if it is just a little. I didn't see this in Iceland for some reason. I have been wrong a million times though, so perhaps I could be wrong again. I mean, I am still waiting for Freddy Adu to emerge as an MLS elite player and National Team main stay.
That's the question. It's a cost/benifit scenario. If he is low cost it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him around (or on loan provided he gets playing time) for a season or 2. He needs minutes. Reserve league ain't great for that and he's not anywhere close to being a starter IMO. Another (or an extended) loan would be good.
Spot on. Palsson had alot of brain farts when he would play.. Extremely stupid turnovers, reckless chalanges and a lack of awarness/urgency were his biggest mistakes. But I do see talent in him and I do think he has the chance to be a very good MLS player. BTW, Palsson scored a goal and went the full 90 in their league match on Sunday. He's not playing in some reserve league he's playing in the Dutch Eredivisie.. He's becoming a regular for his start and by the start of the next MLS season he's going to be a completely different player. Makes me think what we were doing wrong with him
We don't need him to be a starter but we do need players to provide us depth and versatility. I also do think if he continues his pace he'll find his way into our starting 11 next season(if he's still on our squad) I can see a 3 man midfield of -----Cahill Dax-----Palsson Where essentially all of them are box-box midfielders. I remember Backe wanting to implement something like that during the summer
