At the end of the summer I asked what people felt of the summer market. There was a lot of high ratings from posters. I'd say the majority were positive on it and only a minority were slightly negative on it. So now the question is how has your opinion changed after 10 match days? Has it improved or has it gone down? Is there any player who's signing you were happy about that you might not want to sign at the moment.
I was happy up until we bought Balzaretti and names like TOrosidis were being brought forth — before we sold Borini. After that, it all crashed and burned for me. My view on it remains negative. I expected a top class defender, and not a poster-boy purchase at the expense of one of our young stars.
For me it still remains positive due to a number of reasons, most importantly for the fact that we see a lot of young players gaining playing experience, who one day have the potential to become world-class players, starting from Marquinhos ending with Tax...
Definitely better. I was pretty negative about our management after selling Borini and having an 18 year old and 17 year old as back up CBs. So far the only player that hasn't produced at all is Destro. Everyone else has at least shown glimpses of potential. Castan and Marcos have both turned into great buys, and I still have no idea how we managed to get both of them. Overall our players haven't been fantastic, but I was expecting far, far worse
I'm surprised to see anyone say that their opinion has improved. They failed to provide players adequate for the coach's system. And we are talking about a coach who it is no mystery what system he uses. Our biggest purchase of the summer is a bench warmer. Our most expensive midfield purchase is also a bench warmer. The execution of this market was very poor.
I find it weird that our market always been looking into a young player from a different country. its one of the reasons that we are not having a great season or better say a decent season. First of all, they are new to the league, country, that's why they need time to gel and get suited to the italian game. If our market changes its point of view, I mean, going into a young , promising youth italian players, we could have a huge future for us. players like " de luca, caprari, capuano, etc" the project was always said that we will challenge for scudetto in our 3rd or 4th, 5th year of our project. but are we sure that the foreigner players will stay with us for 2-5 years.( or we are building an ARSENAL model of business) at a least, italians knows more about Serie A. thus, no more " one win, three losses" This Roma will mature in 2 years.
How does your Italian theory hold up when examining Fiorentina. They bought a bunch of foreigners too.
Although results have been dodgy, nearly every player has made an impact apart from maybe Destro but he's a real talent, its still early days in the season, plenty of time for heroes to emerge...and villains
My opinion has not really changed one way or the other. Roma are doing about as well (or bad, depending on your perspective) as I expected at this point in the season.
The team is about what I expected at this point, however, my opinion of the market has slightly improved. Individually, Castan and Marcos have proved (thus far) to be worthy signings. Dodo certainly provides glimpses of immense talent when he's on the field. Bradley is, just as I thought he would, doing a bang up job when he's on the field. Destro, though starting slowly with the goals, has looked good as far movement up top, and now has got his opening goal. Piris can go either way, though he's at least seemingly stronger mentally than Angel, so he has a better chance of working through his slow start. At this point in time, I view the market as very good for us.
Zeman gets contract- Zeman needs regista- Zeman says DDR absolutely not regista, only intermedio- Roma buys similar player in Bradley- Roma now has 2 players in the same position- Roma buys Tachtsidis to play regista, a young serie b player- Roma uses 5 intermediani and 1 regista- Roma are behind in the table- January comes and no changes are made-
I am unhappy too. I want more stability and trust in players we sign.We keep signing players, then flip them over . Last year 6 -7 new starters, this year entire new backline and goalkeeper.Even the midfield is entirely new ( florenzi, bradley, taxi). Next year we will do the same i bet..
LOL, mine was negative back in November, now it's gotten worse. Sure we've invested a lot but not smartly. The Negatives ( - ): Sold Borini for Destro (which although Destro is OK and his potential is incredible, Destro so far hasn't been a clutch player, Borini was, he would score those goals when it mattered, he was the type of player whom you'd sub in when you needed goals and he'd make his time count, like Pippo Inzaghi, and more importantly, Borini could play wide forward or prima punta, Destro and Osvaldo are both prima puntas and that's it, you cna never have both of them on the pitch. Balzaretti, he was my favourite signing, I was so excited for him after the Euros, but this was deceiving, he has since become a shell of a shell of himself. Zeman's football depends on wingbacks being able to cross. Castan OK, but doesn't fit Zeman's system: too slow. Tachtsidis - Massive negative, he has potential, but this is THE ONE position Zemanlandia requires to be effective, giving it to such a young inexperience guy is a travesty and something terrible both for the club and the player, they risk burning him before he ever gets the chance to shine, he should be loaned to a smaller club. Dodo - way too young an inexperienced. Quality's there but he needs to first get healthy and second get some experience. Goicoechea - Way too inexperienced and makes me cringe every time a cross comes across the air, Goico vs. Aerial attacks makes Jose Luis Chilavert (when he was fat in the World Cup) look good The Positives ( + ): Lamela, not sure about this one as he has been crap lately, but his quality is undeniable, I am still surprised we won him over some much larger clubs. Piris, good little workhorse, too bad Torosidis isn't left footed, Piris and Torosidis would provide 25 good crosses per game... now if only our strikers wouldn't miss so many sitters created by ZEMANLANDIA. Bradley, I did not like him, but he has proved me wrong, turning out to be my second favourite signing. However, he has only been starting so much because DDR has been shit for the past 3 seasons. Marquinhos, fluke transfer, and no one to thank for but Castan. Our best signing BY FAR, but don't thank the management for this, this was all Castan. We needed an entire backline of new serie A quality defenders, yet we invested in forwards, and very little in defenders. All in all, this team did not get reinforced the way it should have, the players that are playing well are our cheapest players? Terrible Investment if you ask me, if our management were running normal business (not a football team) they would have been fired by now. Above all, I find it disgusting that Zeman is forced to play with players that DO NOT fit his system, everyone and their mothers knows Zeman's system, it couldn't be easier to buy players that you know would work with him, yet we did not do that. Makes me wish we had kept Montella (as he is more adaptable to playing with what has) and got Zeman later when management were prepared to invest in players that would fit his system. If Zeman leaves Roma without us ever really getting to watch Zemanlandia shine at the Olimpico I will be very, very bitter.
Two things notorious with Roma....giving away leads and having a crap start to the second half of a season. After all the ups and downs we started to play really well up to Christmas....like last season, start of the second half of the season, has potentially destroyed the season after a small handful of games. Our defense relies on an 18 year old to hold it together. This is actually embarrassing for a club the size of Roma and its also not fair on the kid. Now we have not witnessed a true Zeman team, part from moments in matches, although for pure rhythm I still think of Genoa away as the most beautiful game this season...apart from a handful of other matches we have seen very little. All over the pitch we need changes but what we see now is a club divided from management to players and barring a miracle, its going to end in tears
