So why can't he be tried as a regista? In the Parma game thread someone mentioned Verratti never played regista before either and he turned out fine.

Roma will lose him in January if he doesn't play.

First let me say that it's foolish to say Roma will lose him in January. He is contracted to AS Roma and Roma are under no obligation to sell him. If he leaves it's because Roma has decided to let him leave. I think it's high time we stop being hostage to players, it's the management that is in charge.

As for the comparison to Verratti I find it rather opportunistic. Long before Zeman arrived at Pescara, Verratti was being compared to the likes of Pirlo and Pizarro. That he had the qualities and characteristics to play as a regista was under the eyes of everyone.

As for Pjanic the coach clearly doesn't see him playing there. There is no reason to beat a dead horse. Zeman wasn't born yesterday. I think he knows what characteristics his regista needs to have. Furthermore continuing with this discussion in my opinion clouds what the real problems are, and believe me it's not the regista. Tacthsidis has become the visible scapegoat, but the problems lie elsewhere. Let's keep in mind that without Tachtsidis Roma still lost.

If we're not going to use him, we will lose him. I don't him staying if he's benched. Pity.

And Verratti has a certain grinta to his game that Pjanic doesn't. Not to say Verratti is a hard man but he does have a toughness about him. Pjanic always seems very frail out there, he gets pushed off the ball so easily. When I first read that Pjanic was 5ft 11 I was surprised, he seems so much smaller.

first thing, he was a panic buy much like mido was. The target was montolivo, montolivo refused ...altho fiorentina accepted our 10 m. After that rejection, we went for pjanic at the end of the mercato.
second thing, before joining us I believe he wasnt starter in lyon..but bench player.
third thing, i think his price went down over that 10 m. Over 2 years, he hasnt impressed me at all.I dont know how this young players we bring here get so much hype from the posters, I think some are obsessed with that game ( football manager).
fourth, I think he has to go.

I also wouldn't be fussed if he left. He has ability but shows it far too sparingly for me to really take to him.

As Henchag says, Pjanic came to us on a downward slope. He was hyped to be some future genius after his time at Metz and with Lyon knocking Real Marid out of CL. Pjanic and Gourcuff couldn't co-exist in the same eleven at Lyon so Pjanic was culled.
Kjaer and Bojan came to Roma in a similiar manner. Both had been hyped up to the heavens but had recently expereienced troubled periods of their career before joining us.
Perhaps the only reason these guys could join us in the first place was because they experienced these slumps prior to joining us otherwise they would've been destined for bigger things if they had kept developing they way they had initially.

Sabatini on Pjanic from an interview he gave today:

Last year with Luis Enrique he played as a number 8, that what he should be doing, and will be doing, this year with Zeman. There is no discussion on his role.

If he's destined to leave it won't bother me one bit. I think he's a trequartista and I don't see him being capable of taking Totti's spot from him. As for playing as number 8 well by seasons end Florenzi will have that position completely locked down. To quote @midfieldgeneral you can bank on it.

So if he is not going to be a regista, is clearly not going to be an intermedio with Florenzi, DDR, Bradley, and Marquinho, and he is not going to take Totti's spot.........

Then..... is it actually possible we can be seeing Pjanic leave..........

Why can't he sit on the bench, he's not Messi for god's sake. When finally have a decent bench and now it's a problem. Maybe Totti get's injured in a month and misses a month or two. You never know.

True. I guess if he doesn't want to make that committment then he wasn't worth it in the first place.

Now my intuition says De Rossi might depart for making room for Dzagoev. That's really gonna hurt me

He was about 5'9 5'10 cus he was taller than me but not by much.

He could play regista, and better than Tachtsidis.

The problem with Pjanic is that he has trouble playing a full 90 minutes. He dips off a lot and disappears in the middle of the game. Something you can't do for Zeman in any position.

This is so freaking retarded and I'm getting tired of hearing it. Are you a coach? Have you been using the 4-3-3 for your entire coaching career? What on earth can you possibly be basing this on? He's never played there in his freaking career. Yet people have to go on and on and make a big case just because they decided they dislike Tachtsidis.

For god's sake Zeman works with these players EVERY SINGLE day. It is possible he might now something you don't.

You want to play Pjanic at regista then fire up your Playstation because that's as close as your getting.

Seriously to have to read this stuff the day after Roma wins. Where Tachtsidis was booed at the start and went on to play a fantastic match. We are talking about Pjanic not Pirlo.

Then not one person would ever mention playing Pjanic in that role. Even if Pirlo turned into the worse player in Serie A overnight. This is only based on favoritism. Since we have an unknown in that role, and since Pjanic is a technical player we have to make a big case out of it. It reminds me of those ridiculous playstation formations you see posted here from time to time.

Roma has the best attack in Serie A, surely that's a sign that our regista is not useless in the offensive phase. That is his job ... to direct. So he's not a complete failure there. And surely no one will tell me that Pjanic in that slot would add to our defense.
