No one complained about hosting midweek. I'm complaining about losing home field advantage.

I hate MLS. I really, really hate MLS.

Are the League or NYRB going to reimburse people here for their non-refundable travel expenses already incurred?

How exactly is DC going to have any kind of a homefield advantage on the match we do get when they have only a couple of days to sell tickets? Nobody is going to be at the fscking game.

If the match up there goes to extra time, with the possibility of penalty kicks, will that take place down here? No. So we just gave up the homefield advantage we earned through having a better regular season.

We were in a situation where they weren't going to have many fans at our stadium, and we were going to have many at theirs. Now we're in a situation where *they* can have a lot of fans at our stadium, and it'll be hard for us to have very many at theirs.

    I really, really hate MLS.

The ********ing NYC marathon is happening on Sunday.

So, in essence, A METRIC ********TON OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE IN NYC AND THIS IS OKAY WITH PEOPLE. But the RBA attendance dropping from 12k to 11k is a ********ing problem?

    Exactly

I'm one of many DCU fans who bought bus and game tickets to go to Harrison on Saturday. I might try to go on Wednesday night, but there won't be very many of us, I'm sure.

If Red Bull Arena isn't ready for Saturday, both legs should be played at RFK.

I am more angry about this than I have ever been about anything in the history of my association with a team in this league.

If DCU manages to lose in OT/PK's, I will spontaneously burst into flames and jump into the river behind my dorm room. My last words would be "******** the Red Bulls".

So help them if this goes to the 30-minute overtime in NY.

This really sucks for you guys, hopefully your team can go out and beat NY badly on Saturday so the second leg in NY is just a formality. And then try to channel some San Jose mojo (from 2010) when you go to New York!

Good luck, definitely rooting for DC to beat NY.

I like that its a weekend game but I hate that it's being rescheduled for this weekend. Nobody is going to be at the game and I've already taken work off. Happy to lose a bunch of money because of this rescheduling

Just great. So, they change this on 3 days' notice. I can't go, and I doubt I'm the only one. And as others have said, what about people who made travel plans?

Exactly. We finished second. That's supposed to count for something whether it's the 30 minute extra time for a draw after two legs or penalty kicks at the end of that. It was ours. We won it.

The fact is that New Jersey was devastated by Sandy. PATH is out, Hoboken remains largely underwater. It is a tragedy and a mess. Kudos for Payne and DCU for stepping up and doing the right thing. Yeah I know the NFL and the NYC marathon remain on schedule, but just because they are clueless bastards doesn't mean that MLS and DCU have to follow suit. I'm sorry for Ben and the boys because they really fought for their seeding but I'm sure they will suck it up and prevail. They really are the only ones with a real bitch in all of this. I'll be there Saturday as always trying to cheer them on to victory.

Don't worry. "Steven Goff" (if that is really SG on his own blog) says : "We just witnessed an extraordinary weather event. Sometimes the convenience of attending a sporting event is secondary."

    +1.

I think some of you need to step back and get a little perspective here. This is a game -- mere entertainment, no matter how passionate we get.

People in NJ and NY are dealing with a disaster. I'm glad DCU is doing the right thing.

What's the right thing? Giving up home field advantage? Screwing your own supporters? Coulda played the game in any one of a number of arena's across the country. Why should DC United have to lose their home field advantage? MLS could have postponed the Eastern Conference Finals a week to the Saturday after Thxgiving. So the Eastern team would have had only one week of rest instead of two. Many other and better alternatives existed than what actually happened. Giving the team that didn't earn home field advantage the home field advantage is a laughingstock.

    Thx,

    Jay!

The problem to me with all this is they knew the standings since last Saturday, they knew the storm was coming and the severity of it. This is something that should have been handled by that night, it seems like they had literally no contingency plan for this and it's completely puzzling. I mean, maybe I'm being pessimistic here but is the situation really going to be all that different 4 days later? Kind of silly that this became our burden to bear when NYRB should have been working out a back-up site to host should this very thing have happened. It all just seems very bush league to me, I dunno, had to plans to come up for the 2nd leg but that's all well shot in the ass and giving people 3 days notice doesn't exactly provide enough time to reschedule things.

Well that's all well and good and maybe (again) this is the pessimist in me but how much are things going to change in 4 days? If it's an issue of respect for the situation why are they playing the game at all instead of postponing it? It all just seems so half-assed and United seemed to be the ones getting screwed at every aspect in regards to said game.
