So you're saying people who would just be hanging out at the EspnZone or Trader Vic's would decide to walk over and buy tickets to a game? The Lakers drew fine when they were in Inglewood because of the product, not the location, and they were doing no worse at Staples when LALive was still a parking lot you crossed to get to the Taco Car Wash. Any serious Farmer's Field bump for the Galaxy would come from a player signing, say Ronnie or Chicharito. The people in the Valley or the hipsters in Mid-Wilshere/Koreatown who complain about going 10 extra miles down the 110 will likely come up with some other excuse not to go...
This Farmers Field Fantasy for the Galaxy is absurd. They have a wonderful situation as is. If (and it looks less and less likely every day) Farmers Field got built it would only be useful to the Galaxy for the odd glamour friendly against Barca, Real or Man U.
I totally agree with this, though it would have been pretty amazing to play the MLS Cup final last year there.
Sorry, but people who claim the Galaxy wouldn't play games in Farmers Field are clueless. Equally clueless are those claiming it would draw more than HDC. A game in Carson means no public transportation and hanging out in a parking lot before the game. Farmers Field would mean taking a train to a game and having dozens of places to eat and drink. If you only do a few games a year you don't notice maybe, but I live in the Valley and work downtown, and a couple games a week in Carson is a bit much. How many 16 year old kids can't even get to games now? By the way, AEG just announced they were paying Metro to double the size of the Pico station. http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_21856516/metro-aeg-agree-expand-pico-boulebard-rail-station
Yeah, public transportation has improved quite a bit in Southern California and is continuing to improve. People from Pasadena that used to go to the Rose Bowl can now take the Gold Line into Downtown/Union Station as an example. But even if Farmers Field is built, I don't see that as the home for the Galaxy for quite awhile (if ever). Although in hindsight, I'm sure AEG wishes they built the sss in Downtown.
Agreed, the Galaxy won't leave HDC for awhile. But in the Rose Bowl days they would draw 60k plus on the 4th of July. Believe me, AEG is aware of that fact. And that they missed out on about $3 million in revenue at MLS Cup last year.
Montreal's attendance next year should be equal or slightly higher overall than this year. There were 5 games at the O this year, vs 2 the next, But 3 of them were 23120, 19223 and 20373, plus poor early results at Saputo were 17112, 12357, 14412, 12085, 15118, 15615 and 18535. All of these should be replaced by Saputo numbers above 19000, if not sellouts, next year. Theoretical max average in Montreal next year is 25,005.
The attendance next season will be about the same as this season was. Not till 2016 will we see a big jump.

hey congrats on your title win in the NASL. We stole YOUR BANNER! We stole YOUR BANNER! We know who we are! We know who we are! We are Atlanta FC! (well silverbacks...sigh)

I didn't do it and didn't watch it. It wasn't on actual TV, I was at a wedding, and Darek Sharp makes my ears bleed. Good for you. I guess that makes you..something. Did you make it back for homeroom on Monday? They're so cute at that age.

Except for England and Germany, is there a league in the world with a better "worst attendance" than this? We played with this a few months back, and the then-last place team (which was NE at the time) drew slightly better than the equivalent MFL team. IIRC, Mexico was the only league close. Which would mean MLS has either the 3rd best or 4th best "worst attendance" in the world. Which is another way of looking at our median attendance, which is one of the very best in the world.
If I had to pick one and only one stat to describe the difference between MLS attendance today and MLS attendance 10 years ago, this would be it.
Well, 10 years ago, our weekday average was 18,061 (I think Independence Day may have fallen midweek, then, though). But thirteen years ago, the weekday average was 8,755. Pretty remarkable since then. Here's the progression, actually: Year...Weekdays..Weekends..Diff 1996...13,563....19,712...45.34% 1997....9,842....15,247...54.92% 1998....9,659....16,228...68.01% 1999....8,755....15,514...77.20% 2000...11,856....14,461...21.97% 2001...13,862....15,297...10.35% 2002...18,061....15,286..-15.36% 2003...11,594....15,378...32.64% 2004...12,362....15,995...29.39% 2005...16,185....14,833...-8.35% 2006...14,629....15,713....7.41% 2007...16,840....16,752...-0.52% 2008...14,839....16,807...13.26% 2009...17,566....15,855...-9.74% 2010...15,154....16,979...12.04% 2011...17,700....17,910....1.19% 2012...17,071....19,203...12.49% TOTAL..14,246....16,469...15.60%
Well with Kenn preempting me I wonder what I have left to post . Seriously good stuff Kenn, I will still get my numbers up tonight, followed in the next week or so with the team centric data.
