I don't normall root for LA in anything, but I really want them to beat the 1st Canadian team in MLS playoffs so we get the epic SJ v LA showdown. If they lose to the 'Caps, I'll just have to content myself with laughing really hard.

If we are knocked out of the playoffs, I'd have to root for RSL. It's the only other team that I don't hate.

MLS website says it's on the main NBC network, not NBC Sports.

Is the NY-DC 1st leg in Harrison, NJ still on or are they moving the match somewhere?

Yeah, go Canadians. They are the Dynamo only chance to host the MLS Cup.

I was pissed to see Seattle lose to LA in the last game of the season giving LA a slightly better ranking against Houston should we both reach the final then LA would host unfortunately. I was hoping LA would tie/lose then we meet them in the the BBVA and get revenge on last year.

BTW, should the Dynamo advance, MLSsoccer.com shows TV for the 2nd leg vs. SKC next Wednesday to be MLS Live/Direct Kick (no national TV). I presume the team would get something thrown together for a broadcast on FS Houston (now FS Southwest) or the overflow channels since a OU basketball is showing on that night.

DC just got rooked and I'm livid! Hosting the second leg is much more important than just "in case of extra time or PKs". Hosting the second leg means that your team goes into it with days to react to the first game and make strategic changes as a result.

If the situation was reversed and DC was the city in trouble, do you think the league would take away NY's second leg at home? Hell no! They would be talking about alternative locations to play DC's leg.

I already wanted DC to beat NY, but now I *REALLY* want DC to rub the league's nose in it.

and that's how things operate-NY market> DC market. Don't forget this is the league that cuts the lights when Houston is winning so don't tell me Garber doesn't play favorites.

Now from a personal standpoint, if NY advances and we advance then I want to take a few days off and go back to the old neighborhood (or what's left of it:eek:)

I just read about the swap, and I'm interested to read some perspectives on this. I do think the league has it's favorites no doubt, but I'm not sure if I want to believe in any conspiracies about them doing certain things for some teams and not for others, at least in a situation like this. I'm sure there is plenty of evidence out there but I would need some real proof to truly believe any of that.

That being said, I do think the league in general has a strange amount of power in some respects. As in, you WILL swap home legs in this series, you WILL play this player or trade him, etc. I realize that it has to be this way sometimes for the overall success/marketing/etc. for the league and it's players, but I still don't understand exactly what the league can and cannot do. Seems like they make a new rule book every day and it makes you wonder, is all this interference really necessary? But that sounds too much like politics so we'll stay away from that.

I'm actually livid FOR DC. I get that NY has no control over the hurricane or what happened (and I do feel for everyone affected by it) but their location is what makes them prone to such an event. In the same way that their location got them Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez, among other things. The league obviously wanted NY to keep their home game, but surely there were better ways to do this. IMO this pretty much fundamentally changes the series and the way the games will be played which is unfortunate at best.

let's boil this down to what was said in the league office:
-RBA is probably out for Saturday. No power, no town cops, no PATH.
-OK, can we play it at MetLife?
-And have no one show up? Sure, but it's going to cost us and arm and a leg, and no one will show up. Probably not good with us to trying to put a team in Flushing
    -How is Flushing?
-Well, it's flushing actually. But back to the playoffs. Sir, many of the players use the PATH to get to the Arena.
-That's okay, they can find an alternate way to Harrison.
    -Sir, Thierry takes the PATH.
    -SH#$, we'll swap the legs.

DC totally got screwed here. League should have offered to rent out Rentschler field in Hartford (AEG manages I believe) for the game

No, this is the new UCONN stadium in East Hartford. Basically, MLS and the teams didn't want to sacrifice a home gate for NYRB.

I did see that they've increased the number of away tickets NY will sell to DC fans, maybe that will help a bit.
