I'd like to see a number of players who have not played with or are on the fringes play in this tournment. Why except for braging rights it means nothing really. This is my starting eleven if everyone accepts the USA call,is healthy and gets off Klinsi's sh#t list.
    Guzan
    Chandler-----Cameron------Gonzelez------Johnson
    Dempsey----Williams-----Bradley-----Donovan
    Altidore-----Johannsson
This would bring some much needed speed to our team. But I am up for other suggestions

Many are expecting the Gold Cup roster to be filled with players outside of our "A-team".
About 9 of your guys are in our A-team and will probably be available exclusively to WC qualifiers.

For what it's worth, here's my starting 11 for GC 2013:

    ---------------------------Boyd--------------------------
    Gyau-------------------Diskerud-------------------Gatt
    ------------Morales---------------------Okugo---------
    Chandler--------Brooks-------Kitchen-----------Lichaj
    -------------------------Johnson-------------------------

Looks pretty good except I'd rather switch Okugo and Kitchen positions. Don't want a remake of the u23 failure:cool:. I doubt Chandler would be on this team... If anything he would go back to the A team if he finally played with us. Maybe a different Attacking mid (Silva or Pontius) and lower Diskerud to CM.

I can't remember who tweeted this (one of the major pubs like SI/ESPN), but Jurgen again referenced this past weekend that he's expecting to not go with his veterans for the Gold Cup. I think that's totally the way to go to find depth, plus our veterans will be playing in qualifiers.

Who I think should make the roster among others:
Gonzalez (if he has not made the senior team yet, which hopefully he has and I don't need to list him here)
Pontius (been on this list for awhile)
Lichaj (please, for the love of god)
Guzan (GK #1 to get him practice for the WC, one of the younger guys can back him up)
Gatt (if he shakes off the countless injuries)
Boyd (perfect game to get up his confidence)
    Brooks (we need CB depth)
Zusi (if he doesn't get tons of playing time with the seniors, could be good to give him the captain's band)
Castillo (since he will be a backup to Fabian)
    Michael Orozco-Fiscal
George John (if he improves in MLS)
Beitashour (if he improves in MLS)
Shea (if he makes his way back from injury)
Agudelo (if he manages to score a few at Chivas)
Feilhaber (if he plays next year)
Kljestan (could be another veteran choice)

I need a couple of younger dmids, not sure there, and I'm still about 7 players short, notably in forwards and dmids.

Not sure: Gyau (needs more playing time), Diskerud (still undecided)

And no, Adu isn't on that list until he repairs his attitude which has apparently caused problems in Philly.

    Club:
    Atlanta Silverbacks
    Nat'l Team:
    United States
    GOALKEEPERS:
-Brad Guzan *lock* (perfect opportunity for him to get minutes and add experience to our "b team")
-Sean Johnson (building for the future)
-Bill Hamid (building for the future)

    Alternate/In the Running:
-Nick Rimando (current #3 loses out to SJ and BH by an inch)

    Uphill Battle:
-Ryan Meara and Zac MacMath (if either starts out very hot in MLS '13 then they could sneak on if Johnson or Hamid slip, but it is a long steep slope for either)
-Dan Kennedy, Tally Hall, Matt Pickens, Andy Gruenebaum, Steve Clark (they'll need to first make it to camp cupcake then 2nd have a stellar MLS '13 to sneak on)

    Omit: Tim Howard

    DEFENDERS:
-Omar Gonzalez *lock* (the towering defender should be given a chance to succeed; if not before then the Gold Cup will provide that opportunity)
-Matt Besler *lock* (like Gonzo, if not before then the Gold Cup)
-Michael Orozco (Klinsy favors him so he will probably get another shot at the Gold Cup)
-John Anthony Brooks (if he does well for Hertha then i don't see why Klinsy would ignore an opportunity to bring him in the fold.)

    Alternates/In the Running:
-Ventura Alvarado, Seb Hines, Tim Ream, Will Packwood, Zak Whitbread (need to do well for the rest of the year)
-Austin Berry, George John, Matthew Hedges, Amobi Okugo (need to be selected for Camp Cupcake, impress, and do well at the start of 2013)

    Uphill Battle:
-AJ Soares, Chris Schuler, Marvell Wynne, Jalil Anibaba, Jay DeMerit, Drew Moor, Jeff Parke

Omit: Carlos Bocanegra, Geoff Cameron, Clarence Goodson, Oguchi Onyewu

    FULLBACKS:
-Edgar Castillo *lock* (with FJ dominating the LB position, we still need to make sure we have cover at his position)
-Jonathan Spector *lock* (if healthy, Spector is still a good piece to have in the tool set. especially, due to his versatility)
-Eric Lichaj *lock* (Klinsy is not going to be able to ignore this guy forever if he continues to become a fixture for Villa)
-Steve Beitashour (this one is very close... Sinovic, Morrow, and Myers could easily surpass him but i'm giving it to him due to the Mexico call-up. A lot will depend on Cupcake.)

    Alternates/In the Running:
-Seth Sinovic (needs to impress in Cupcake)
    -Justin Morrow (same as Sinovic)
-Chance Myers (same as Morrow and Sinovic)

    Uphill Battle:
-on the right: Kevin Alston, Tony Beltran, Sheannon Williams, Zach Loyd
-on the left: Connor Lade, Heath Pearce, Michael Farfan, Greg Garza, Sean Cunningham

Omit: Steve Cherundolo, Fabian Johnson, Michael Parkhurst
*Parkhurst barely makes the omit list. We need to evaluate some of our MLS options, and i'm also guessing between now and the hex that Parkie will get plenty of minutes with the A team.

Note: if Chandler does commit, i would demand that he go through both the WCQ and the GC to prove that he's committed to go through the hard times with the USMNT.

    MIDFIELDERS:
-Jose Francisco Torres (he'll probably be dropped for awhile given his recent string of poor performances but i doubt that Klinsy will never look at him again. I think the Gold Cup will provide him that opportunity)
-Joe Corona (finally starting to get his chances but needs to impress.)
-Mikkel Diskerud (needs to be given a chance to impress, but he could easily be replaced if he doesn't perform.)
-Sacha Kljestan (needs to step up his game or could easily be replaced.)
-Maurice Edu (goes as a CDM but may rotate as a CB.)
-Alfredo Morales (goes because he's a young and talented CDM albeit raw. And i do not want to see Beckerman. However, he is going to have to get minutes for Hertha at some point this season or that hope is going to fade.)
*no locks for me on this list yet. it's way too competitive.

    Alternates/In the Running:
-Dax McCarty (hard cut to make. and the more i think of it, the more i would try and fit him on the roster... while we more or less could argue for the creative play of Torres, Kljestan, Mix, and Corona, that may be overkill, and we may need a fighter on this team. and if there was ever a Bradley-light, it's Dax. If he can play CDM, his chances increase.)
-Conor O' Brien (needs to continue doing well in Denmark. he's right there pushing for a spot but fighting for a spot in a very crowded position. if he can play CDM then his chances increases)
-Brad Evans (Klinsy seems to favor him, he may be a surprise pick in Cupcake... then who knows?)
-Kyle Beckerman (i'm hoping we have seen the last of Beckerman. I doubt it though)
-Stuart Holden (needs to get well and back to form; if so, then he's taking someone's spot)

    Uphill Battle:
-Advanced Midfielders: Eddie Gaven, Lee Nguyen, Alejandro Bedoya, Benny Feilhaber, Benji Joya, Luis Silva, Sebastian Lletget, Brad Davis, Jose Villarreal, Luis Gil
-Defensive Midfielders: Ricardo Clark, Jeff Larentowicz, Sergio Duarte, Sam Cronin, Perry Kitchen

Note: Osvaldo Alonso would easily be a lock for this list if he becomes eligible and would replace Morales. Also, if it was me personally, i would try and see what ole Jermaine Jones could do as a CDM even if Klinsy doesn't see him as a CDM.

Omit: Landon Donovan, Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones, Graham Zusi, Danny Williams

    FORWARDS
-Josh Gatt *lock* (have got to have this speedster on the team)
-Terrence Boyd *lock* (hopefully, his coming out party.)
-Jozy Altidore *lock* (needs an opportunity to be the #1 striker again)
-Chris Pontius *lock* (well, i wish i could say he's a lock, but we know he's not a Klinsy favorite. Either way, he should go to Camp Cupcake and if he impresses and has a good MLS '13, he should be there.)
-Nick DeLeon (if he gets the call in Camp Cupcake and performs well and has a good start in MLS 13, he might be the lucky one picked. In other words, a lot can change from here and then, and he is far from assured a spot.)
-Brek Shea (don't agree with it... but Klinsy loves him. He really needs to pick his game back up to what it was and what is expected of him. I believe Klinsy will make room for the big guy.)
note: there should be plenty of competition for even some of the "locks." A lot depends on a forward with how they are doing at the moment.

    Alternates/In the Running:
-Joe Gyau (depending on the rest of his club form)
-Freddy Adu, Dilly Duka, Juan Agudelo, Kenny Cooper, CJ Sapong (need to be selected to Cupcake to really make a case for themselves but a lot will depend on club form in 2013.)

    Uphill Battle:
Wingers: DaMarcus Beasley, Robbie Rogers, Sal Zizzo, David Estrada, Andrew Wenger
Center Forwards: Jack McInerney, Will Bruin, Charlie Davies, Steve Lenhart, Andrew Wooten, Omar Salgado, Mike Magee

Note: if Johannsson commits, he would make the roster.

Omit: Clint Dempsey, Herculez Gomez, Eddie Johnson, Alan Gordon, Chris Wondolowski
*I really don't want to see any of the older MLSers like Johnson, Gordon, or Wondolowski. Unless, everything looks bleak, let's see what some of our kids can do.

THE ROSTER (as i see it, right now)
    GK Guzan, Johnson, Hamid
    FB Castillo, Spector, Lichaj, Beitashour
    CB Gonzalez, Besler, Orozco, Brooks
MF Edu, Morales, Diskerud, Corona, Torres, Kljestan
FW Pontius, Gatt, Shea, DeLeon, Altidore, Boyd

    -----------Pontius----Altidore----Gatt------------
    -----------------Torres------Kljestan--------------
    -------------------------Edu------------------------
    Castillo---------------------------------------Lichaj
    -----------------Besler---------Gonzalez-----------
    --------------------------Guzan---------------------

Bench: Johnson, Orozco, Spector, Corona, Diskerud, Shea, Boyd

Nice stuff from Eleven Bravo, per usual. I tend to think there may be a couple more vets in there (Pearce, DeMerit/Onyewu, Beasley, Beckerman, etc), but great work as always.

GC is 8 months away. Form and PT (club and country) will have a heck of a lot to do with how the pecking order shakes out from now until then.

Still, I think we have 16 or so players who are either core guys who won't play, or that JK has seen enough of he won't call them to CG: Howard, Rimando, Dolo, Boca, Fabian, Cameron, Parkhurst, Goodson, Bradley, Williams, Jones, Zusi, Donovan, Dempsey, Gomez, Altidore.

Morales is playing for Hertha's U23 team in Regionlliga. He starts regularly and scored his first goal last week. However, he's not the same kind of prospect that Boyd was (in a position of need, dominating inferior competition for a powerhouse like Dortmund)to justify digging down to the 4th division.

O'Brien plays CDM. He is a very good player in a competitve Danish league. Can play the 8 or the 6.

How is Pontius not a Klinsmann favorite? He was called up for Guatemala and A/B but declined due to injury. If D.C United dont make it to the finals, Pontius should be a lock for November.

The more I think about, the more I am thinking Klinsy should split the teams right now into teams competing for Hex Spots (until end of summer) and team competing for Gold Cup spots.... with no players competing for both rosters. Also, note that the Hex spots isn't the true A team and the Gold Cup isn't a pure B team either.

    12. CJ Sapong (F/P)
    13. Teal Bunbury (F/P)

    NOTES:
-Overall, the theme is going to be 2012 starters continue to be starters into the Hex; your first back-up players go to the Gold Cup; fringe players go to Gold Cup; longshots fight for reserve spots on the Hex. But mostly, you should see some veterans mixed with some youth on both.
-Forward is different in that the back-up spots are so wide open that; I would keep my usuals for the Hex and let the older players who are trying to break through compete for the back-up spots there...while, the Gold Cup is saved for all the young guns.

Why are we taking our B team to the Gold Cup? Might as well chalk up another win for Mexico. What is that 3 straight now?

The Gold Cup should be strictly for integrating players into Klinsmann's system. That requires two things: 1) regulars who could use some further refinement, and 2) relatively new players to integrate.

    23 for the Oro:

    Regulars:
    1- Guzan
    2 - Castillo
    3 - Lichaj
    4 - Beckerman
    5 - Shea
    6 - Edu
    7 - Boyd
    8 - Altidore
    9 - Kljestan
    10 - Jose Francisco Torres

reading this again, I'm inclined to switch Goodson/Bocanegra with Besler/Gonzalez if one or both Besler and Gonzalez prove to be international quality. Also, i may want to switch Chandler and Cherundolo.

    CB: Cameron, Gonzalez, Goodson, Hines

    ----------------------------Williams-----------------------
    Johnson-------------------------------------------Cherundolo
    ----------------Gonzalez---------Cameron-------------

Mexico is also going to take their B team because their A team are going to play in the Confederations Cup.

LouisZ, USAMEX10 and Paul Calixte repped this.

Lots of variables, games and time to prove yourself between now and then.

Today, here is my B-Team 23 (C-Team in parenthesis). Although there will certianly be some senior A-team players scattered in here.
One qualifier: Alot of these players could be on the senior team by then.

GK: Guzan, Clark, Hamid (Johnson, Kennedy, Hall)
CB: Ream, Brooks, Gonzalez, Besler (John, Okugo, DeMerit, Whitbread)
FB: Lichaj, Garza, Beitashour, Spector (Morrow, Myers, Sarkodie, Orozco)
MF: Torres, Corona, Diskerud, O'Brien, Bedoya, McCarty, Shea (Kitchen, DeLeon, Davis, Beasley, Morales, Beckerman, Feilhaber)
F: Pontius, Agudelo, Gyau, Adu (last chance), Wondo (Johannsson, Bruin, Lenhart, Sapong, McInerney)

Holden in for O'Brien/McCarty if healthy.
    Johannsson for Adu if committed

FW: Juan Agudelo, Terrence Boyd, Herculez Gomez

    Lineup:

I don't think we are going to see an U-23 squad, but I doubt we see a team of primarily veterans. The team I picked includes veterans like Parkhurst, Jones, Lichaj, Torres and Herc.
