Apparently Alexi just talked with Jurgen and there will be a smaller version of camp cupcake for players to potentially help with February hex matches.

Based on what Lalas is saying...probably an 16-20 man roster...MLS guys and a few of the good Scandinavian players we have.

The only question is whether or not he includes Zusi, Rimando, Beckerman, Shea, Johnson or goes for an all unknown-quantity camp...

Would love to see Bedoya and O'Brien get a shot...I hope they don't get ignored...and also it might be time to adu it.

Keeping with the MLS, Mexico, Scandinavia idea and guys who could help in Feb.

Would love to see: Gatt, Gonzalez, Pontius, Diskerud, Johansson (if he wants to), Bedoya, Besler, Beitashour, Corona, Castillo. Heck, would like to see some vets: Beasley and DeMerit come to mind.

TrueCrew, I don't mean to pick on you, but I already pointed out to you in another forum that Mexican based players do not play in Camp Cupcake. Since it is not a Fifa date, they don't release their players for it, as their season restarts in early January before Camp Cupcake games would be played.

I know it's a stretch in January, but I hope Jurgen can bring Gyau, Wooten, & Packwood to this camp. Otherwise it will be a MLS/Scandinavian squad, which still should be pretty good tbh.

You know, I was about to rant about how it's not a Fifa date, and so German based players won't be coming, but then I remembered that reports are that camp is going to be shorter this year.

Last year, we played games on January 22nd and 25th. This precluded German based players from participating, as their season had already restarted earlier than that. (Jones was suspended and Clark's club didn't care about them, so they were exceptions)

But if Klinsmann has a much shorter camp, and arranges for a friendly on say, January 12th, then German players might be able to come, as their season restarts the 19th. Of course clubs still would be under no obligation to release players, and their clubs would likely want them for training. But at least it goes from impossible to possible for the Germans.

For English based players like Packwood, forget about it. They don't take a winter break.

Still, I think there are plenty of MLS/Scandinavian players for Klismann to look at.

Besler, Gonzalez, John*, Gatt, Pontius, O'Brien, Johannsson**, Beitashour, Morrow, Diskerud and Bedoya are just some of the guys without caps under Klinsmann that might merit consideration.

And of course, Klinsmann could compare them against guys he has had a chance to see on the field, including Eddie Johnson, Shea, Gordon, Wondolowski, Parkhurst, Zusi, Goodson, Rimando and Sean Johnson.

*though he'll probably be pursuing a contract in Europe, as he's shown little interest in resigning with Dallas
**if we can get him, of course

Yh I realize anybody from England is near impossible. I also realize its extremely unlikely for anybody in Germany. However, I am sure Klinsmann will atleast ask for the German base & you never know.
I really want to see these players just get called in to say, you're the future & idk what other opportunities we will have to see them in 2013. Thankfully, I think a John Anthony Brooks call v Russia has some likeliness.

Look, we just disagree. I understand what you are saying, but this doesn't prevent us from asking, and a player who plays in Mexico could very well come in. There could be players in Mexico who are between clubs, or looking to move. Or, not in a club's plans, so they would let the player come. Orozco, Garza, Beasley, and Corona could all fit into this category.

Further, the fact that it isn't going to be a month long "camp" this time, but more of a traditional "friendly" camp, the Mexican clubs (and other clubs) may be more willing to release players since they won't lose them for a month.

Conditions have changed. Your focus on comparing this camp to previous camps in not an apples to apples comparison. You need to recognize that. And even if they hadn't, for the reasons outlined in the first paragraph, a Mexican based player could still be a nice idea.

Have I explained myself enough for you this time?

I do recognize conditions are different. Note that in my previous post on this thread, I mused that it might be possible for German based players to come. But their season restarts on January 19th.

I don't know about this year, but last year the Mexican season started on January 6th. That means pretty much any friendly or camp, even a shorter one, would result in players missing games. It's just not going to happen.

True enough, save for players who aren't in their clubs plans. They might fancy a call as the window will still be open, as they could raise the price on a player with a good showing.

I didn't realize how early in Jan the Mexican season started, that definitely limits things to players who are most likely not wanted at their current clubs. Still, that does happen from time to time, for various reasons. I just wouldn't count out the entire Mexican contingent (or any contingent) based solely on the start date.

Though I agree wholeheartedly that the lion's share on the players will have to be guys who are out of season (MLS, Scandinavia).

US Soccer president Sunil Gulati tells me January USMNT camp will be shorter than in past, may or may not schedule friendlies that month.

    ives roster:
GOALKEEPERS- Sean Johnson, Bill Hamid, Dan Kennedy, Tally Hall
DEFENDERS- Steven Beitashour, Chance Myers, Omar Gonzalez, Matt Besler, A.J. Soares, Matt Hedges, Austin Berry, Justin Morrow, Kevin Alston.
MIDFIELDERS- Graham Zusi, Mix Diskerud, Nick DeLeon, Dax McCarty, Perry Kitchen, Ricardo Clark, Josh Gatt, Lee Nguyen, Eddie Gaven.
FORWARDS- Eddie Johnson, Juan Agudelo, Chris Pontius, Will Bruin, C.J. Sapong

not bad but O'Brien should no doubt get the call instead of Rico, and I rather Silva than Gaven and Gordon than Sapong

I bet if we have this camp, it's going to skew very young................

In fact I can easily see camp cupcake turn into a camp strudel for U23s only.

It seems to me what Klinsmann really wants his elite MLS players/prospects to do over the winter is train/trial in Europe.

the starting 11 for honduras could well notinclued any one from that roster

i'df see zusi as almost a starter

i'dprefer guys get loaned to decnt squads, sides better than mls ones

for me gatt and pontius might be roster guys who could be sub options

If we were going to play a match with that roster and play anything resembling JK's usual formation, then it would be hard to leave Rico off the roster. We need two defense-capable CM's. I'd be more comfortable having Rico out there, than a combo of Kitchen/McCarty. He'd give us some stability. And, it's hard to have a useful experience for all the players if the CM is disorganized/in a shambles. I agree, I'd like to see O'Brien, though. And, Sheanon Williams seems like a guy that should get a chance.

Q: Marvell Wynn has no chance? (don't skewer me - I don't get to watch as many MLS matches as I'd like).

    Oh, and what about Zizzo?

Dax-Kitchen would be enough imo, I dont see Rico having a chance to play any role on the team again so imo we should leave him home..O'Brien needs to be on the team

he mentioned Zizzo, I like him too, maybe over Nguyen who might not be ready to play..Brad Davis is another option but idk if hes on Jurgens radar, I'd also like to see Adu

As a Rapids fan, I'd say Wynne is an unlikely callup. His tremendous speed is an asset, of course, especially when playing a high line, as Klinsmann wants, but I'm not sure he has the passing out of the back skills JK also wants, one reason I think Gooch hasn't had much of a look from JK, and the main reason (passing, skill going forward) Wynne was converted to CB.

That being said, I'm always supportive of any of our guys who get a callup.
